The site boasts of meadows and a forested area in addition to a melodious creek to sooth your night's sleep. A heated shower and Propane heat is available (extra fee) for cool weather or Winter camping in our Glamping Cabin. Take in all the White Mountains have to offer each season. Shaker Mountain Refuge sits on 300, mostly wooded acres at the foot of the Green Mountains. With outstanding views of Camel's Hump (Vermont's second tallest peak), the refuge is a wonderful place to sit back, relax and enjoy the natural world. There are numerous hiking trails on site, as well as a beautiful swimming pond. Access to Camels Hump hiking trails is a short drive away. Nearby, Camels Hump Nordic ski and bike center boasts incredible mountain biking and nordic ski trails. Just down the hill, the Huntington River has an abundance of swimming holes and fishing spots. Just over the Appalachian Gap are the Mad River Glen and Sugarbush ski resorts. There are many excellent restaurants within a 20 minute drive.

This was an amazing getaway. The cabin had everything you could need. Craig and his family were really hospitable. Always kept great communication. The cabin is insulated and kept us warm throughout the night. Craig gave us extra blankets and was kind enough to set up the hot water shower for us. The instructions to get there were pretty exact. The location is amazing. 15 minutes to Franconia Notch. Quick 5 minute drive to downtown Littleton. Lots of options to eat there and Bethelem. (Try the skirt steak at El Mirador Restaurant or the Thai Donuts at Taste the Thai). A power generator is available in the cabin for charging your stuff as well.

I loved camping here! The view is one of a kind and it’s literally jaw dropping in person. The port a pottie was super clean and the host had some water available which was awesome! I wouldn’t say the site is super private as it’s right next to the hosts house, however they can’t see you unless they’re going up and down their driveway. With that being said, the host was lovely and very kind. She made sure we had enough blankets as it was chilly at night and the bed was so comfortable! I would definitely come back if I was in the area!

This was an exceptionally beautiful location with a friendly host and a very comfortable bed. There was a refreshing pond to swim in, and we could see the sunrise from the bed. What a magical space. 10/10. Thank you for your hospitality and generosity with the free wood! Would love to come back.

My partner was hesitant about going camping for the first time (city-raised), and I was able to convince them with the promise of a comfortable bed and a place to swim. Staying in the lean-to absolutely exceeded both of our expectations! The bed is so comfortable, and the views are unbeatable. We got to watch the moon rise up over the mountains our first night there! Truly magical. Waking up to a sunrise at our feet was so special and stunning. We floated in the pond for hours and met many frogs and newts, along with one sweet turtle. I cannot recommend this place enough, and we can’t wait to be back!!

The cabin had everything I needed. It was a comfortable bed in a solid little shed. The property was nice, though the outdoor spaces could have used some organizing/feng shui. I would not want to stay here to spend quality time on the property, but as a home base for hiking and checking out surrounding areas, it worked great!

Amazing doesn’t even begin to cover it. This place is beautiful beyond description. And the accommodations are exceptional. The bed in the lean-to is worthy of a 5 star hotel. The spring-fed pond is lovelier than any swimming pool. And the porta-potty is the cleanest one I’ve ever seen. I feel so lucky to have had the chance to spend a little time here.

Medora’s coyote lean-to is adorable and the views are absolutely stunning! The bed was comfy, the toilet clean, and we appreciated that firewood and kindling were included. Medora and her two dogs (Cookie and Posy) are sweet as can be.

2 nights at White Mountains Dear Bear Campsite

Craig was an extremely responsive host...often responding in a few minutes. He stopped by for a bike ride and to show me around the campsite. We stayed in what was a storage shed outfitted with beds, chairs, solar USB charger, a dresser and a 5 gal. water cooler. It was hot and stuffy in there, but we brought a battery powered fan which kept us cool. The shed was extremely clean. We used the composting toilet, which worked fine. There are picnic tables, a fire ring and a fire pit. There is also a gas grill that we did not use. Campsite is a 15 minute drive from Franconia Notch State Park and 5 minutes from downtown Littleton, which has plenty of eateries, a movie theatre and retail stores.

Craig was a wonderful host. He met me when I arrived and showed me around, and then let me keep to myself for my stay. I stayed in the cabin, and it had good amenities. It was a very quiet peaceful place to stay, and I got to see lots of wild turkey which was fun. I plan on returning if I stay in this area again in the future. Thanks Craig!

I love staying in the shed on Craig’s land. It’s very cute and cozy! It was super cold, but the propane heater kept me warm. I feel like I would have enjoyed myself a lot more, if it was warmer outside, I could’ve used the outdoor shower. I would definitely stay again! But it really is a great location. Three minutes from downtown Littleton and within half an hour to the Franconia notch and Crawford Notch.
