Great News: Willie Nelson is coming back to Floore's Country Store where his music began. (also where Elvis got his start). His long-standing favorite, Shotgun Willie, was based on John T Floore. Willie and Family will come on Wednesday, October 23. Tickets go on sale 8/29. Floore's is within walking distance of the campsite. Also, on the list Robert Earl Keen (9/2); Josh Abbott Band (9/7); The Mavericks with Asleep at the Wheel (9/14); Gary Allen (9/21) Eli Young Band (10/5). Please check dates. From the campsite, you will hear all outdoor bands and Willie's is outdoors. I was not looking for another house to buy, but my daughter wanted me to look at a "little cottage" in Old Town Helotes. Just to shut her up, I made an appointment on a rainy day so I could not see/access the back of the property. The house was 3,000 sq feet and I fell so madly in love with it that I made an offer two hours later. I saw the potential of both house and land. Only after moving in did I walk the pasture and realize how much land I had bought. The house was featured in the San Antonio Express News (Spaces 2/27/2011) as a home for the arts because I collect folk art: mostly from Mexico. My daughter Kelly and I worked on the front gardens first; butterfly and cactus gardens, always mindful of choosing local plants and trees. In the spring, the mountain laurels add color; honeysuckle and jasmine scent the land and the flowers on the cacti bloom scarlet and yellow. The summer and fall produce the yellow and orange Esperanza bushes and the Mexican Bougainvillea. Three years ago, I decided to maximize the use of the back pasture which is separated from the front by a dry creek bed. Kelly and I started an heirloom vegetable farm with raised beds and terracing. We installed some stone steps for easier access. According to the "old folks" here, this property was part of a ranch on the stagecoach line replete with cowboys and Indians, started out as a two-room stone shack and blossomed into a Cinderella home with Moroccan arched ceilings and even a wine cellar. As parking is on one side of the creek and camping is across the creek, RV's and camper vehicles are discouraged. However, if you message me prior to booking, we can accommodate one low one under the oaks in the front and you will have access to front chiminea and back pasture amenities also. We are proud to announce that our campsite has been nominated for Best Hipcamp in Texas for 2019 and was recently featured on television to promote Hipcamp. Next morning, you walk to the Cracked Mug in Old Town for coffee, and then, for breakfast, drive 30 miles through the Hill Country to the famous OST Cafe (Old Spanish Trail) in Bandera--the Cowboy Capital. Not only is the cafe famous for its western saddle bar stools, its John Wayne room, its down-home cooking--it is also the destination for the leather-clad, serious-helmeted motorcycle riders from San Antonio who rendezvous and ride up there every Saturday. So you end up with quite an eclectic crowd: serious old-time ranchers, drug-store cowboys, the Steve McQueen type motorcycle racers, and the tourists. And the prices are right! Then, after visiting Bandera, you head out Hwy 73 for 13 miles to Camp Verde--an old Army Camel Fort from the 1840's with a still-functioning post office, and a gorgeous restaurant along the banks of the river (best onion rings this side of heaven). On the return on Hwy 16 (Bandera Road), turn off on PR-37 and visit Medina Lake., Then you return to camp for siesta--before repeating last night's adventure. On the way home, you stop in Grey Forest and walk/hike through the one-lane roads of this enchanting artist colony with its 300+ cottages and rock homes. Also every first Saturday, Old Town hosts Market Days--music, crafts and food. We are beginning to host artists who want to paint the Texas Hill Country--what a neat idea: camping and painting. Old Town has just opened its first art gallery featuring local artists and Chula Vista Farms is hosting its second "en plein air" event in the fall. Boulderdash is quite amazing! We usually camp in tent campsites because we have a tiny camper, and we don't like to be among huge RVs. Boulderdash is a quite small campground but the design is great and RVs do not face each other and are not lined up, so everybody has privacy. We stayed for the first two nights in the RV site 3, and for the last night we moved to tent site 1 by the river. The tent campsites are the best for who likes nature. While they don't have water or power at the campsite itself, they have a great outdoor washing area with potable water, electricity and a picnic table. There's a port-a-potty besides the bathrooms on the hilltop. Our campsite had a fire ring, a grill, a great picnic table, and you're steps from the river. Water was pretty low but it was running because there are some springs that feed into it. Everything at Boulderdash is well thought out, the bathrooms are super clean and cute, shower is FANTASTIC! Every picnic table has a flower arrangement and a jar of corn to feed the deer, and a small shop. Wi-fi made camping bearable to our teenage daughter. Also fantastic are the hosts: Carole-Anne is super friendly, and received us with a pumpkin bread that she baked to all campers who were there on thanksgiving. That really set the tone right. She was super accommodating to our requests, and is just an overall nice person. Their dogs and cats are super sweet, as are the deer that come every day to get sone corn. We had a wonderful time!

We really enjoyed RV camping at Al’s Hideout. Gordon and Jennifer are great host!! Everything was great. The property is beautiful, and the amenities are top notch. We will definitely be back, and would highly recommend. Thank you Guys so much!!

Weekend Trip to Alamo River RV Resort

My fiancé asked to go camping for her birthday, and we settled on this place. We showed up in the dark to our tent sight because she wanted to get her hair done that day also (don't ask), and because we weren't familiar with the area, we asked a local sheriff's deputy for directions. He told us where to go, but we accidentally ended up in sight 7 instead of 1 (our fault, it was dark). We realized our mistake the next morning and called the front desk, and they were incredibly kind. We insisted we'd pack up and move, but they didn't care, as nobody else had site 7 booked. We enjoyed a great time of calm walking trails and lovely scenery. My fiancé had never seen a ring-tailed cat, but we saw one fight over a tree with a couple squirrels! (Fun to watch for me). Long story short, this is a great, calm place for RV, camper, and tent sites. Btw, site 7 for tents is the best one. It has a table, water spicket, porta-potty (very clean), and is right next to a trail entrance.

This place is almost paradise. The only thing missing is water in the river, not the property's fault though, and any separation of space between RVs. I enjoyed everything about Alamo River. The location is remote and quiet. The paths were very open and well kept. The staff is awesome. The cleanliness of the park is immaculate. The stars above were incredible. My neighbor's were great. Checking in and extending was incredibly easy...I could go on but you know you need to book already!!

I love everything about this place. The peace and quiet of long term residents is exactly what I wanted. The trails are open and easy to walk and cooking my dinner on an open fire under clear star specked skies is the reason I do this. Thank you to the owner and staff for keeping an immaculate property, I hope to go back soon. I highly recommend you visit

We enjoyed the nice river. It was beautiful. But walking along the river got tiring since we are in our 70s. It would have been nice to have some benches down by the river. We would have stayed there longer if there were places to sit. Thank you. Fran Plumlee

Great communication, wonderful location. It was very peaceful, close to the water, and it felt safe for me and my dog! The tent sites have a porta potty and outlets, very convenient. Highly recommend, it was a great time!

We had a great stay. Tent site 2 has lots of room and plenty of shade. It’s a short walk down the hill to the river. Having the sink and porta potty down near the site made life much easier. The facilities up top are nice. Having cornhole there to play was a lot of fun and one less thing to bring. We’ll definitely be back.

Lyn & Carol-anne are incredible hosts and have one of the choicest plots of land along the Medina. Our favorite part was using the tubes they have available on site to float and soak in the sunshine. They have a lot of essentials on hand to buy if you forget something. We will be back :)

Stunning. My dog loved it! We saw many animals amazing place to get back in touch with nature, Good fishing, snorkeling was amazing, the camp site is well maintained, flat places for the tent. Trees were perfect for our hammock. Walk to the water is like three minutes with some rocks.The water is so clear, feel clean and wonderful, and its at its highest late spring, early summer. We went in September and it was deep enough to snorkel in. The night stars were so clear in this area! The owners were so nice. They stock the bathrooms with nice things. I would recommend

I loved the peace and quiet. The seclusion. Fishing was great. We saw turkeys and a few deer. My wife and would definitely stay again. They have gem, don’t change it for anybody.
