We loved staying in the Ultimate Privacy Jupe. We swam, fished, paddle boarded and explored all day. The river access was awesome and we enjoyed the site a lot. The bed was comfy and we stayed warm and dry during an evening thunder storm. We will definitely be back.

1 night at Low Gear Farmstead

The most beautiful properly I have ever spent time on. We camped at the stargazing site but took a little walk around with one of the dogs Bjorn as it seemed no one else was around and we wouldn’t be bothering anyone. The river running through the property is incredible. The toilet at the site is just what you need & nothing more (bring your own TP). The best part of the trip was getting to spend time with Bjorn. My dog recently died and Bjorn’s companionship was so welcome. When it rained a bit during the night we let him into the tent and he slept on the floor. He knows a few tricks if you’ve got a treat or two. Bjorn was a great camp host.

The highlight of the experience was the private river access, where I could relax by the water and enjoy the peaceful sounds of nature. It's an ideal spot for stargazing, and the tranquility of the surroundings made it even more magical. We stayed at Tentrr 5B. Great camping site. The river nearby is awesome/clean water and good fishing. Very remote and was quiet at night. Campsites are very close together so not really private. Hosts are nice. The bed was comfortable. Downside is the public restrooms and showers are absolutely disgusting/dirty. It’s worse than a nasty truck stop. I would not advise anyone much less a woman use them. Overall, though it’s a good place with great river access but if you’re looking for somewhere that you have a little privacy this is not it as there are RV’s/campsites stacked right on top of each other and people are everywhere. If you don’t want that then you should go somewhere else. Also the James River Icehouse is right across the road from the campground and it’s excellent!! Great burgers and people there are super friendly!!

I really did enjoy my spot on the number 3 the 10th I'm glad that I had campers across the way and close to the bathroom and the river was just beautiful wish there was more water but all in all it was a great time

Dos Rios was there PERFECT spot for my family! We stayed 3 nights at the Tiny Cabin 12. It had everything we needed from kitchen appliances, to clean bedding and towels! This space accommodated me my partner, my 8 month old, 8 year old and our German shepherd. Super comfortable, nice AC, hot showers, and a fire pit to cook on outside. The main guy that was working there helped us as soon as we arrived! He was a huge help to us during our stay! The river area was so beautiful every morning and evening, very clean around the whole RV park. I highly recommend this place to anyone especially if you have kids or pets! Everyone around us was very respectful and polite ❤️❤️ We will be back again!

We chose to tent camp at dos Rios and had a great experience! The grounds were beautiful! It was a little less private than we expected however we were lucky and there were not many people present on the nights we chose to camp. Bathrooms were present and available but were a little dirty but this also wasn’t a huge deal to us. Overall we will be back and enjoyed our time!

I had the pleasure of staying in 5A already set up Tents with a stunning from the bed. SO peaceful and relaxing, near the bathhouse with hot showers. Clean, comfortable and as a single person traveling I felt safe here!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND 10 stars

Weekend Trip to Dos Rios - Hill Country Adventure

We loved our stay so much! We love that there are different camping options (cabins, RV’s, tents), the location is 10/10 as well! We hiked to Enchanted Rock in the morning and went to Fredericksburg for late lunch and back to our camp for a late afternoon swim. The only thing that we gotta be careful are fishing lines as some of them still have hooks! Kudos to the staff as well for being so helpful and present.

Lowgear was an amazing site. The kids had a blast, the stars were amazing and the river was nice and cold. I would definitely recommend 100%. 👍 We loved having Bjorn (The camps friendly pup 🐶) join us for our stay also!

I truly loved camping at Dos Rios. It was all very well kept, beautiful, the host was friendly and helpful, and the river and whole space were beautiful!!

We have been to this property several times and have stayed at a couple of their sites. Our favorite one by far is river view. The walk down to wade in the water only takes a few minutes. You also have a beautiful view of the water from the site and get to hear the water rippling at night while you snuggle up in your tent. It’s so peaceful and the hosts are always so responsive and helpful to accommodate all your needs. Will be back again!!

Host worked with us to change into a cabin last minute due to cold front that would have otherwise stopped us from staying overnight. The team was helpful and the site as a whole was really neat. Hoping to go again in summer to experience the river more.

Great place !! Wife and i got the Skyview spot and the stars at night were amazing ! Sadly it was super windy that day so there were loads of dust blowing from the spot. Super primitive spots , with outhouse and besr part it was right next to the river ! Cold and enjoyable! They have aome farm animals along with doggies that passed by to say hi .

This was a great spot to stay! Nice to be in some nature and see some stars! The bathroom was a much appreciated addition! We can't wait to visit again soon! The longhorns were so much fun to see. You can see where the ranch gets its name! Definitely one of our top hipcamp spots!

Get into low gear and enjoy the slow pace and peace of our little working farm on the edge of the hill country. Low Gear Farmstead's 75 acres border the lovely San Saba River, providing campers the opportunity to swim, wade, fish and paddle. Farm animals including dairy goats, chickens, and horses inhabit the property, but wildlife such as deer, wild turkey, ringtail, fox and armadillo is also abundant. Bird watchers will be delighted at the diversity of birds, especially in spring. Don't forget to look up at night as our dark skies provide excellent stargazing on clear nights and a very visible Milky Way. We limit the number of campsites and spread them out so that campers may enjoy privacy and seclusion. Campsites are provided with compost toilets and most sites also have a fire ring. 4WD is not required unless we have had heavy rains, otherwise most vehicles, except very low clearance ones, do fine. The nearest town, Menard, is about a 12 minute drive from the property and has a grocery store, gas stations, a couple restaurants, a pub and a bakery. Lovers of history might enjoy visiting the Presidio de San Saba, about 20 minutes from the farm, as well as the historic Pioneers Rest Cemetery in town. Low Gear Farmstead is a safe, welcoming space for queers and POC.
