Buck Acres near Lake Conroe, TX

20 sites · RVs, Tents6 acres · Montgomery, TX
The previous owner had plans to turn our property into a 42 site row by row RV Park. Once we saw the beauty of the property, we knew we had to keep it as wild and pristine as possible. On 6.5 acres the perfect number of sites was 18 keeping the large house for short-term rental (coming soon.) Sorry, we are still under construction but excited about our progress! See a short video at https://www.buckacresrv.com Buck Acres is technically not even an RV park, we just want to share our property with fellow travelers so we added some gravel roads. The only amenities are a Wi-Fi, 50/30/20A plug-ins, a porta-john and water. We use HipCamp and The Dyrt for bookings or just give us a call or text at (832) 303-9940 "Close to everything, away from it all" We're in the country but close to city amenities and beautiful Lake Conroe. It's only a few minutes from April Sound and the largest marina on Lake Conroe, 8 minutes to Wal-Mart and Kroger, yet it's peaceful and quiet on our forested property. As full-time RV nomads ourselves we know RV park rates are getting crazy, Buck Acres is our attempt to help the community. We've done everything we can to keep rates down. The only amenities we offer are shade, Wi-Fi, electricity, water, and an ADA porta john that is cleaned every week. Affordable RV parks shouldn't be sweltering parking lots where you're packed in like sardines! At Buck Acres we have 100' tall hardwoods and pines that have been trimmed up 60' for the safety of you and your rig! Buck Acres is still under construction and it is a labor of love. All proceeds go immediately back into the park. Bring your family, pets, and friends - tents and RVs welcome! Please Note: Quiet Hours are 10pm - 8am Please keep fires within designated fire rings Keep pets on leash - Clean up any pet waste Do not walk through other people’s campsites. Unique Gorgeous Bubble

1 site · Lodging10 acres · Cleveland, TX
Are you looking for a unique place to spice up your trip? Have you ever slept in a bubble? Well, come try it out at Bespoke Outdoor Bubbles! This is truly a once in a lifetime find. When you stay in one of our inflatable bubbles on the farm with an enormous pool, not only do you get to experience something new and exciting, you also have access to so many fun things to do! The coolest part? The top is transparent, so you can fall asleep wishing on a star. This inflatable bubble is anchored to a sturdy wooden deck and inflated with an air blower. There is a retractable awning that covers each bubble reducing the green-house effect during the daytime and can be opened to reveal the beautiful skyline during the day or the wonderous starlit sky at night. Inside you’ll find a cozy king bed that can comfortably sleep up to three guests (2 adults and 1 child). There is air conditioning and heating inside as well as a full private bathroom. The bathroom even has a clawfoot tub! Toiletries are provided for you during your stay. The bubble is located in Sam Houston National Forest on a beautiful ranchette of almost 8 acres. On the ranchette you’ll be able to see chickens, turkeys (seasonal), goats, pigs, rabbits, and a garden near the home as well as livestock grazing in the pastures. Wildlife is present in the forest, so there are some food restrictions inside the bubble to keep you safe. (See “rules to keep in mind”) A pathway that is clear during the day and perfectly lit for your convenience at night takes you directly to a fully equipped outdoor kitchen. There, you will have access to a BBQ pit, an outdoor pavilion, pool, hot tub, and pool house. If you’d like to have some fun, games like corn hole, oversized connect-four, water volleyball, and horseshoes for you to enjoy. If you’d like to relax, kick back in a hammock and take a nap in the fresh breeze. The fire pit is open to all guests! Feel free to make s’mores, hot dogs, burgers, or whatever you’d like! Campfires are the perfect way to end any summer day.

Forest camping near Houston with campfires guide

Overview

Houston, the fourth largest city in the USA, might not be the first place that comes to mind when you think "camping." But look beyond the high rises, freeways, and urban sprawl, and you’ll find plenty of places to escape to nature. With an annual average temperature of 69°F, the Bayou City offers outdoor adventure for campers throughout the year. Once you’ve taken in the cultural scene, head out of town to your secluded campsite at night.

Where to go

West Houston

The Brazos River winds through the countryside West of Katy through hardwood trees and upland swamp. Go hiking and biking along the riverbanks at Stephen F. Austin State Park, where the campground includes both tent camping and full hookup RV sites. With camping sites throughout the area, you can pitch your tent in a pecan orchard, or park your campervan at a working cattle ranch or horse rescue farm.

Lake Houston and Northeast

Head northeast from Houston along Highway 59 to find one of the city’s favorite gateways to the outdoors. The 4,500-acre Lake Houston Wilderness Park protects wooded parkland along the shores of the eponymous lake, with 20 miles of hiking and bike trails, including 13 miles of equestrian trails for horseback riding. Continue northeast to Big Thicket National Preserve, just north of Beaumont, for backcountry camping amid the longleaf pine forests.

Far North

Drive north along I-45 past Lake Conroe and you’ll encounter a chain of state parks and national forests. Get out on the water of the lake in Huntsville State Park, or explore the vast woodlands of Sam Houston National Forest (home to three developed campgrounds). Lake Livingston State Park, just east of Huntsville, protects one of the largest lakes in Texas. The giant pines, hardwoods and swamps of Davy Crockett National Forest sit just a bit further north (two hours from downtown Houston).

Southwest and the Gulf Coast

For beach camping and bird watching, head south toward the Gulf of Mexico. Keep an eye out for alligators and diverse birdlife along the swamp trails of Brazos Bend State Park. Setting up camp in or near Galveston Island State Park gives you easy access to the city with its shopping, dining, beaches, and stellar sunsets.

When to go

Summers in the Houston area can get hot and humid, so unless you’re RV camping near the cooling waters of a beach or lake, it’s best to plan your trip for fall, winter, or springtime. While winters tend to be mild, temperatures can drop at night, so pack layers for camping in December and January. Rainstorms occur throughout the year but tend to be most common during the Atlantic hurricane season (June to November).

Know before you go

  • Having your own transportation is a must in and around Houston, especially if you plan to explore outside the 610 Loop.
  • Remember to bring plenty of insect repellent, as you’re likely to encounter mosquitos year-round.
  • During hunting season (November to January), backcountry camping is restricted within some state and national parks. Check ahead of time.
  • Most Texas state parks require reservations for both daytime visits and overnight stays, so be sure to book in advance.
