Really enjoyed this Hipcamp. Felt very private, the electric hook up allowed us to stay nice and warm in the campervan, and the host was responsive and welcoming. We’re definitely adding it to our list to return to in the spring.

We had a great stay in Rick’s land. It was an incredibly easy pull in spot surrounded by privacy. It was a perfect stopping point on our way to Maine. Thank you for the restful sleep and beautiful scenery. Will stay again.

This place was perfect for our overnight pass through stay. It has water and electric hookups and a nice fire pit. No restroom facilities so prepare accordingly. Super easy to find and even though you are kind of in a neighborhood you feel very much secluded in nature. Highly recommend

Hartwoods was the perfect spot for us to land for 4 nights while visiting family in New Haven. The property is private, well kept, beautiful, and a short walk away from the New England Trail. The host was quick to respond to questions. Our dog enjoyed the open space and being off leash. We also enjoyed being able to drive to the quaint harbor towns like Mystic for lobster and fresh cider. There was some noise from the Sportman’s Association rifle range down the road, but not enough to be an issue. We would definitely recommend Hartwoods, and hope to stay there again in the future.

We loved camping at Rick’s land. It was very clean, level and peaceful. Our dogs had a great time and enjoyed the outdoor. The firepit is also great and we cooked the majority of our meals over the campfire and tasted delicious! We look forward to returning soon! Rick was also a great and responsive host and ensured we really had everything we needed and had a great and relaxing time.

1 night at Hartwoods
This property is, Absolutely, Beautiful. Lots of room. If you are towing, take the second entrance. If your rig is longer the 35-38’ this may become challenging to get in. But once you’re in, you feel like the whole woods is yours! It’s amazing how close the freeway is, but it felt like we were hours from town.

Very nice campsite! The water and electric hookups worked great, with good water pressure. Finding the site was easy, and while some comments suggested using the second entrance, we found that with the loop drive, either entrance worked well as long as your rig isn't too large to make the turns. We were able to park two 14-foot travel trailers in the space with plenty of room.
We had the entire property to ourselves, with no one staying in the yurt. Even if there had been, other than a shared driveway, we would have had our privacy. The spot was quiet, located along a road that leads only to a state forest and a gun club, so there was very little traffic. A big bonus was being able to walk directly to the New England Trail! We also had good AT&T cell service. The site has a decent amount of shade, though we wish we had parked a bit closer to the second entrance (away from the hookups using longer cords/hoses) because there was more afternoon shade on that half.
Overall, it's a great property, and the host, Rick, was extremely responsive and helpful with all our questions. We will definitely be back when we're in the area!

We are fairly local, but we wanted to give our rig a shakedown run, so the Hartwoods location was perfect for us.
We loved the private, quiet space, and the clean gravel parking spot. We were mostly bug free, which is surprisingly nice for this area. The water and 30A electric were great, too.
Future visitors need to know a couple of key things:
First, your GPS will take you WAY past the entrance, so keep your eyes peeled long before you think you should.
Second, heed the advice about picking the correct entrance. The first one has a white sign, but if you have a travel trailer, do NOT go in that way. You will want to take the SECOND entrance that is near the brown sign (with reflectors on it).
Third: take it slow and easy as you enter and leave with your rig. The turns include some trees that can add a little challenge. Take your time and be smart, and you’ll do well.
For what it’s worth, after a brief attempt at also visiting the local state park campground (super crowded with tons of obnoxious people), we know that Hartwoods is EXACTLY the kind of quiet, relaxing campsite we need in the future.

What a great campsite in the middle of a very charming stretch of Connecticut! The check in was easy and accommodating (even when we arrived after 1am) and the site is well maintained. I loved that it was a pull through spot! One thing is there’s no picnic table so might want to pack a folding table!

It was a very peaceful place, but really didn’t have anywhere to run our dogs. Paths were somewhat overgrown. Also they have septic there, but locked and not part of the price although for the cost, it should be available at least for grey discharge.
