We came down here from New England in 1997 because we were invited by some locals to teach hanggliding here. At that time as certified HG instructors we thought ok lets try..came down here with our backpacks, a few hang gliders, and figured we would see how it worked out. Renting places to stay for a few years and including rooms for visiting students we had this opportunity to get and fix up this old house. It was a continuation of my dream to have a back pack travelers , adventure travelers, artists, LBGTQ friendly, off the beaten path type of place to stay.
And so in 2004 Barefoot Travelers Rooms and Adventures Guesthouse was born.

Greetings!Suenos del Mar is a small tropical farmstead. We plant trees and tend bees. In 2017 hurricane Maria raged through the island and damaged much of the property. We are still recovering but the trees are coming back and we continue to replant. We welcome you to pick some fruit in season. There are many exotic fruit trees, such as pomegranates, guava, mango, guama, nespero, lime, starfruit, and more, Over the years many volunteers have helped to create a welcoming environment. There is a hand-built stone bathroom, a grape arbor and large table where the socializing goes on. Sometimes we offer yoga and meditation and ceremonies. Recently a fire dancer performed for a full moon gathering held there. It is a special place and we welcome you to experience the out-of-doors in a safe and beautiful environment.Enjoy your stay with us!

Terruño Azul Verdoso is a true gem. I loved the unique experience of using the kitchen and bathroom with full views of the woods and river—it felt amazing to be so close to nature. The staff is incredibly cool and helpful, making the experience even better. It’s also a versatile space, perfect for everything from self-care and yoga to group events. I can't say enough good things about this place!

Weekend Trip to Barefoot Travelers Rooms Guesthouse
What an amazing place! We loved our stay at Keishya’s guesthouse. It was perfect in every way: the beach, the pool, the nature preserve - near a charming town with wonderful hosts! The communication, cleanliness and attention to detail was excellent. And take the kayak tour to Monkey Island, it was the highlight of our vacation. Stay here, you won’t regret it!

Weekend Trip to Barefoot Travelers Rooms Guesthouse
It is difficult to overstate just how wonderful our stay was. The experience is best described as a “Bed & Breakfast” at a prime beach location. While it is not ocean front, it took us a good minute and a half to get to the beach. Trails are everywhere and the host was exceptionally good at suggesting walks, trails to take, so on and so forth. We planned some activities ahead of time but had we known just how private and meticulously maintained the beach is, we would have stayed at the house and would have made our dinners in house. Keishya is an outstanding host and she even made sure we had eggs, muffins, apple sauce and a few other things. I mean, talk about the details!!!!
In short, you will not be disappointed if you stay at this location. It is without a doubt the best experience we’ve had with Hipcamp and, mind you, we’ve had nothing but good experiences!
It was outstanding in every conceivable way…

Fui solo buscando un lugar tranquilo y encontré justo lo que necesitaba. Desde que llegué, Janairi me recibió con mucha amabilidad. Me hizo sentir bienvenido desde el primer momento.
El lugar es hermoso. La vista al río es especial. Pasé tiempo sentado mirando el agua y escuchando los sonidos de la naturaleza. Se siente una paz difícil de encontrar en otros lugares.
Pude participar en una actividad de labor comunitaria. Fue una experiencia simple pero valiosa.
Todo el lugar invita a desconectar del estrés y conectar con uno mismo y con la tierra. Me fui agradecido y con ganas de volver.

Alexa and Naldo have created such a magical experience, staying here was the highlight of our trip to Puerto Rico! We stayed in the cob house, which is a work of art and an inspiration in sustainability. Loved how everything was completely off grid, but never felt like it lacked any common necessities. The composting toilet with the live-in chicken was constant entertainment for my 6 year old daughter. The "hike" down to the serene river swimming hole is not to be missed. Definitely recommend sampling the chocolate as well. We really hope to make it back here someday!

Barefoot Travelers is so much more than a Hipcamp. It features large clean bedrooms, a kitchen stocked for breakfast along with airy comfortable common rooms.
Even with the house being as awesome as it is Keishya is the real star of the show. She went out of her way to make sure everything was perfect. Her kindness and hospitality are second to none!

A perfect host! The first thing that jumped out at me was how open and communicative Keishya was prior to our stay. Once we arrived we found her warm and friendly and felt immediately welcomed. We stayed here for six nights and it was everything we could have asked for! The deck is open so you get to fully enjoy being in the rainforest, while the cozy bed and simple utilities ensure that all your creature comforts are taken care of. We really enjoyed spending time with Naldo an getting to chat with some of the other guests, while also appreciating how private and secluded our space was.
Alexa and Naldo have created such a relaxing and welcoming place that we would certainly stay at next time we make our way to Puerto Rico, and highly recommend for anyone who is looking to get away from their daily grind.
