My father tells stories of it being filled with guests all summer long! Over the years there was few upgrades and now it's in need of a facelift. Landscaping, electric upgrades and bathhouse remodels were completed Spring 2021. We will continue to renovate in phases it's been a labor of love, but you can still see the beauty of this rural location and enjoy the peace and quiet. Hope you enjoy your stay. Lots of trees, shade and nature. It's located near New Germany State Park, 1.5 miles by car, less than a mile by foot. The state park has a lake and hiking trails. Garrett County has so much to offer, waterfalls, lakes, hiking, skiing, Amish gifts, history, fresh air, beautiful scenery. The campground was first started in 1964 by my grandparents, we are currently completing renovations in phases.

We are less than 9 miles from Frank Lloyd Wright's Classic Fallingwater and about 8 miles from Kentuck Knob one of the last resident homes he designed (both are open for tours). Fort Necessity National Battlefield is 5 miles away. There are numerous native trout streams in the area. Youghiogheny Reservoir is 7 miles away for fishing, boat rentals, and water-sports. The Fern House is the primary camp cabin on the property. Although if someone would want to park a "self contained" camper or small RV on the property we would permit the unit to occupy the area in front of the driveway just pass the entrance gate. It is not within the ferns and is next to the road. There is an electrical outlet available at this small RV or van camper site. We are "nice pet" friendly. Dogs should not be left in the cabin alone. We have a mountain spring (when the spring is running) up the trail road (450 feet away). The ferns will normally be in full glory by the end of May to mid September and are amazing, covering the forest floor. Deer, bear, wild turkey, fox, chipmunks, squirrels and many woodland birds abound the property especially owls. A picnic table, fire ring and firewood is available on the property. Free WiFi on the property as long as the plant life is not too thick! There is a mile hiking loop right on the property and many challenging trails in the area, including the starting point for the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail. No smoking is permitted in the cabin. We had the loveliest time and the hosts Eric and Vicki are tremendous. She brought us the best ribs and macaroni salad and potato salad out of nowhere as they had extras! Kind and sweet. . Land is gorgeous. Fabulous trails we explored w the dogs. We had a campfire and just relaxed for 2 nights w no cares other than wAtching the stars. We'll be back!

The perfect spot to entertain a 3 & 5 year old! We had access to a shed filled with games, toys, and kiddie pools. The kids loved the playground equipment and the swings. We took our dogs on several walks along a wide mowed trail around the property. Bathrooms were spotless. Always thankful for property owners who allow us to stay and enjoy their property!

We loved camping at this spot so much! We have two small children with us, and the toddler loved checking out the pond and gazebo. The whole space is beautifully green; would recommend splurging a tiny bit for the site with the great view. The hosts are so wonderful, and they gave us some awesome recommendations for nearby National Parks. Such a blessing to meet them. Would definitely stay here again!

Went out to meet my parents who were ther for a few nights with their camper. The hosts were incredibly friendly and thoughtful, they got some pumpkins for my girls to carve and were extremely accommodating for us. The area is beautiful, private and a fantastic location to get into the laurel highlands. It was everything I look for when hipcamping. Highly recommend it and will definitely be back

This was our second stay on Eric's property (it probably won't be our last!). The accommodations for our camper trailer are top notch. Eric and Vickie are the nicest people: communication with them is timely and they stop by with sweet little gifts, such as snacks as well as corn and tomatoes from local farmers. They even brought some treats for our dog. Vickie set up some beautiful autumn decorations on the site which we used for family photos. All in all, this was one of our best camping trips! Thanks, Eric and Vickie!

Brian’s land was ideal for my needs. Quiet and peaceful, and I felt very secure leaving my travel trailer while visiting Pittsburgh every day. It’s convenient for commuting to the city and very affordable. Brian himself was quick to respond and easy to communicate with (for instance, he was incredibly patient with my inability to find the sewer port and guided me right to it.) It’s no state park with tables and fire pits but it was absolutely perfect for my needs and I’ll definitely return next time I’m in the area to visit folks in PGH

We had a fantastic stay at Family Camping, specifically at the Slice of Solitude site! We brought our RV and were very pleased with the full hookups available, which made everything convenient and stress-free. The campground has a great balance of relaxation and recreation. There are playgrounds for the kids, a volleyball court, and even a shed stocked with activities to keep everyone entertained. The pavilion with electricity was a great bonus for gathering, and the bathrooms with showers were clean and easily accessible. What really made this trip stand out for us was the open land and trails for riding go-karts — something we were hoping to find when looking for a campground. On top of that, the atmosphere truly felt like camping, while still offering the comfort of modern amenities. We left with wonderful memories and can’t wait to come back. Highly recommend Family Camping if you’re looking for a campground that has both a classic camp feel and plenty of activities for all ages!

What a beautiful location! We car-camped this weekend and were so happy here! Rick was very welcoming and provided a helpful sheet featuring the amenities. This is a very large well-groomed field with open camping and has a proper pad for RV with electric and another pad close by (no electric, but perfect for our cars). It has a very large pavilion with tables (could seat 100?), big playground with tetherball as well as a shed full of games (corn hole, frisbee, bocce, etc.). A comfortable and very clean bath house (electricity, shower, 2 stalls, 2 sinks) was much appreciated. We were mostly by ourselves, but this place could accommodate a very large group gathering. Thank you, Rick!!! We really enjoyed our stay!!

2 nights at Cliff Mine Heights

The driveway is steep but thoroughly negotiable. At the top, is a large area where we were able easily to back our 25' travel trailer into the designated spot, and we were able to leave without backing and filling. HOWEVER, after we set up our trailer, it rolled back off the blocks the jack was on! It was only caught by the wheel chock behind one of the rear wheels! Had it kept going, it would have rolled down the hill in front of the house and onto the road below. BE SURE TO CHOCK YOUR WHEELS FIRST THING! The angle is NOT steep, but it was enough for this incident. Also, Cliff Mine Road seems to have a split personality: a mile from Ian's place is an intersection. Three roads come into that intersection. Each of the three are named Cliff Mine Road. Ian lives on Cliff Mine / Enlow Road! Be sure to include the Enlow in your GPS navigation tool! This all sounds serious. One does need to be aware of these two matters. But Ian and Kaitlin are wonderful, and the spot is very nice. Electricity only -- no water or sewer, but for one or two nights (we stayed two), it was excellent.

The communication was amazing. We hiked pretty late and could not find any available camping spots and didnt want to drive late into the night to get home. Ricky was fast to respond and was very accommodating to let us stay on his farm to have a place to set up tent and camp. His directions were good, and he was very helpful with getting us to the farm in the dark. The farm is great and has amazing views. Wish we could have stayed longer but it ended up pouring on us and we had to head home early.
