Sustainable Ecovillage is an off-grid project for sustainable living. If you are looking for a unique experience and up for rustic accommodations among goats, chickens, a permaculture food forest with a few off-grid perks, we welcome you to join us in our mountainous, wilderness paradise!
Our 160-acre property is surrounded by about a million acres of National Forest. Our neighborhood is all made of trees, huckleberry bushes and animals. We love it here. It is very remote, peaceful, and functionally sustainable in its focus. The closest neighbor is a Buddhist Hermitage about a mile up the forestry road. Also, supposedly, Sasquatch live here! (it is the epicenter for documented sightings).
Most visitors to the area are interested in spending time in the redwoods – we are about 30-45 minutes from the nearest entrance to Jedediah Smith Park, home of Stout Grove and other beautiful redwood hikes. Driving into Crescent City, about 45-60 minutes, winds you right through the "gentle giants" on your way to or from Redwood National Park.
We are self-sufficient, and sustainable in a relatively primitive set-up, especially after the fire this year. It's mountainous and remote, and we have a community agreement about no smoking (of any kind) on our land.

Staying in the greenhouse was EPIC!! Highly recommend. Gorgeous plants, nice couch, exercise area, sink, and bedroom included, + hammocks. Only thing I would say is because the doors were open and the ambiguous layout of the camp, and we had some visitors as we were leaving in the morning, probably assuming it was open to just look around. The drive in is pretty long through the mountains, make sure to have AWD/4WD and arrive with light. Very unique and special adventure 😇

An experience that should be had by all. Dan was a gracious host with a spirit full of peace. He was helpful and willing to go far above and beyond to accommodate myself and my 2 young children when we encountered issues during our trip. His kindness and calm energy was easily absorbed and we left with renewed faith that there is still some folks out there with coo8ouh luulylgrbemmmee xexmpassion and brotherly love. My group stayed in the Solarium and we had a pleasant experience! We recommend bringing your own bedding or hammocks to avoid mice or bugs. Bring insect repellent. Besides that, it is a fun remote experience.

Unique experience. Impressed by the sheer size of the greenhouse i stayed in. It does cool off at night and need to walk through the long passage to access your room. Worth it tho. And there are some frog friends at night....so bring your earplugs if not used to the sound:)

A totally unique and beautiful space. The view is amazing and the solarium is very peaceful, with a fountain burbling and frogs croaking.
Looks like they're still rebuilding from the last wildfire, so some broken windows and roof panels but none in the sleeping area.
The drive up is daunting without a truck or SUV.

Weekend Trip to Sustainable Ecovillage
Very eco friendly! We had a great time during our stay, Dan was very friendly and one of the seasonal assistants, Sean, was super helpful and welcoming. You can tell that things will continue to grow and improve, along with the forest coming back to life after the devastating fire.
One pro tip: do not use the fireplace if you stay in the Solarium unless they finish venting the chimney…
Although the fire creates a nice ambiance and the healing sounds are wonderful, we smoked ourselves out accidentally, even with the door open.
The community kitchen is a pleasant start to the day with the gathering of other guests and conversations with people from all different walks of life, but one appreciation; nature!
Pay attention when they say “prepare for a camping trip” when packing. Although they are more than willing to help; town is about an hour away and it’s best to be over prepared than under prepared.
Lastly, a good vehicle with all wheel or four wheel drive is definitely in your best interest but a necessity is a vehicle with a good clearance height (suv, truck, etc)
Enjoy your stay in the beautiful escape from the mundane box life of cities and towns.
