Weekend Trip to BAM Acres Cabin

It was a great stop! It was cozy and warm and perfect for our stop on the way to Indiana dunes national park.

1 night at Heartland Homestead

Heartland was perfect for me stopping through on my road trip! I was able to pull my car directly to the site and set up my SUV tailgate tent. I arrived after dark so it was a little difficult to find the entrance, I only had to turn around once, but during the day the entrance is clearly labeled and it is just before the Equestrian property they mentioned. It was a safe and quiet spot for the night and I would absolutely stay again!

Donna’s Hallstead Camp Cabin was exactly what I needed—a quiet, peaceful place to rest during a work trip. Even in February, the cabin was warm, comfortable, and had everything I needed for some simple indoor cooking. The bed was cozy, and the cabin itself was beautiful. Though I didn’t get to use the fire pit due to rain, it would have made for a great evening. I fell asleep in complete silence and woke up to the soothing sound of rain on the roof—absolute perfection. The pathway back to the cabin is easy to navigate, and the setting is just so peaceful. I may return with my family one day to enjoy it even more!

Loved the cabin! We had everything we needed and it was cozy and warm even though temps were below freezing. It was a peaceful snow scape with birds and deer. We will definitely consider staying here again if we're in the area! And thank you, Shiloh ♥️

Wonderful little cabin. The hosts were also very accommodating and one can tell that they have been doing this for a while, because all was explained before hand and nothing was needed. I definitely recommend. If the opportunity arises, I would consider coming back.

Donna made accommodations for me that made my Christmas trip to see family possible this year. The cabin was perfect for my needs and I plan to stay there again!

I can't say enough about Troy, his family, and this modded style cabin which I was amazed on the hardwork and craftsmanship. They gave me the 5 star treatment.Your in the country side surrounded by endless acres of farm land and trees. Wood was supplied which is nice and if you need more you can always purchase more from Troy. I plan to come back in much warmer conditions so I can take advantage of those opening outter walls!

I came this Christmastime because of a review about Christmastime 2023. Donna goes all out with tasteful holiday decor. The flames from the very adequate heater add to the charm. I was lucky to get a dusting of snow. I never met Donna, but this is a show of trust and respect for privacy. The guestbooks confirm that this is also a special place for couples and children.

This small farm is 7 acres of the original 25 my great grandmother purchased for her family in 1934. Guests can enjoy the cabin as well as the barn, which has been converted to a rec area. Make our home and green space yours for a few days. Camp in comfort in our "little cabin in the woods." Accommodates up to six guests, with a queen-sized bed, a futon and two low single beds in the loft, accessible only by ladder. Kids 6 and older may sleep in the loft-- just like Laura and Mary-- and they can read a chapter of one of Laura Ingalls' "Little House" books before bed! The Camp Cabin contains a small refrigerator, microwave and gas fireplace (no, the pioneers didn’t have that!). Fresh eggs and other snacks are provided for breakfast. The restroom and shower are located in the walkout basement of the farmhouse, a 40 yard walk from the Cabin. The restroom has a private entrance and is used only by guests during their stay. Pet and feed goats and other farm animals. Enjoy fun activities on the farm and in the barn.

Heartland Homestead is the perfect spot for you to enjoy away from home and in nature. With dreamy vibes and open skies, you can relax in our tent camping spots around Mother Oak or reserve a glamping cabin for a true unplugged experience - but make it comfy cozy. Depending on the time of year + season, you may see our goats, cows, pigs, chickens, or more! We may have pick-your-own tomatoes, pumpkins, + flowers as well Glamping Cabins We have two glamping cabins that include beds and lanterns so you get the feel of sleeping in nature but comfortably. Each cabin has a picnic table, fire pit, and charcoal grill. One cabin has a queen-size bed and the second has a full-size bed and a trundle bed with 2 twin-size mattresses. The cabins do not have electric or water. A porta-potty is located near the barn (a 5 minute walk) and a lug-able loo or portapotty will be available closer to the cabins depending on when you stay. We are happy to help get your gear back to the cabins with the farm cart and then it is an 8-minute walk along a hay pasture to the parking area. Tent Camping Our tent camping spots are located under Mother Oak, a 100-year-old oak tree in the middle of our farm. With ample shade, a fire pit, and nearby portapotty, you can relax under the stars into the night. Hiking trails weave through the back of the property and you are welcome to explore those as well. Because we are a working homestead and farm, a few things are true: -Sometimes there’s mud. We suggest boots for walking around the property and in the woods. -Our farm animals are great - and may also bite. Please do not pet or chase them. We are happy to arrange opportunities to interact with the animals. Just ask! -Not always, but at times, our neighbors will start farming early in the morning and you can hear their machinery. All of our sites have privacy but are not truly remote. We want you to enjoy yourselves but please be mindful that our house is on the property as well as our neighbors. Music needs to be turned down to a low level by 11 PM. We can accommodate pop-up campers, camper vans, etc near Mother Oak as well. Please message with any questions before reserving. Additional fees would apply. We can also accommodate larger tent camping groups depending on the day. Additional fees would apply. The homestead is located near 58 so you can hear cars during the day and night. The cabins are about a ½ mile from the road so the noise is greatly reduced. Want to add on a farm-fresh breakfast? We do that! Our breakfast package features eggs from our chickens, breakfast sausage from our pigs, and bread baked just for you. At times, we also have beef burgers and sausage available. We can also offer charcuterie + smores boards during your stay. Firewood is available for purchase or you can gather dried wood from the woods around the cabins. Cast iron, coffee percolators, games, and more are available to use for your stay as well. We regularly host modern homesteading workshops, full moon yoga, and sound baths at the farm. Welcome to Sawdust FarmCamp! Located in Geneva, Ohio. We have four different sites to choose from: one tent site, two glamping tent sites, and one cabin. NEW 2025! The Nature Mindfulness Hike, where we find a deeper connection to nature, is now included with your stay. It is held every Saturday at 4:30 p.m. Need some additional relaxation? Book a Reiki Healing at the Jug House next to the pond for an extra fee. Reiki is a Japanese stress reduction and relaxation technique that promotes healing. Contact your host for availability before booking. We also have the option to book all our sites for a 15-person retreat, with special extras only available for that booking, including a pavilion teepee tent. Portable toilets are available, pets are welcome, and campfires are permitted. Potable water and hot water showers are only available at our cabin, and our glamping sites only have solar camp showers (not the tent site New hot showers are being planned for the 2024 season. Naturalist Isabelle H. Klein wrote a collection of letters from her home of Sawdust (named form the sawdust left by the loggers of the early 60’s) for the Cleveland Museum of Natural History’s Explorer Magazine from the winter of 1969 to the summer of 1976. They then were published as the book “Letters From Sawdust” by the Press of Case Western Reserve University for the Museum. It is a lyrical voyage through the seasons at the Sawdust Tract in Northeast Ohio. She details encounters with the wildlife of the area as well as the changing seasons and plant life. Reminiscent of Thoreau's writings about Walden. In 1978 an additional house was moved onto the property from Sidley's gravel pit and joined with the existing Klein farmhouse. We decided to preserve almost 400 acres of the property with the help of the Western Reserve Land Conservatory for the Cleveland Museum Of Natural History, Natural Areas. Forest is home to the red-sided dace, and 10 rare species of birds, including cerulean warblers. The original small family farm and surrounding woods we have retained are being restored and updated. We are proud to call Sawdust home and would love to share it with you.
