The Viking longhall has been 9 years in the making by a group of semi serious Viking enthusiasts: the result is a 60 foot long building that has 18, 8,x4' sleeping berths. Set apart from the main open area it also boasts 2 meeting rooms and a kitchen.
The campsite is a very peaceful place. Some go as far as to say a healing place! We are proud of what we have achieved and now want people to come out and enjoy it also.
The field is close enough to the Appalachian highway (state route 32) for convenience, but far enough not to be bothered by it. The area is steeped in Native American culture. In fact, the world famous Serpent Mound is but 8 miles away, with many other Adena culture sites within easy driving distance. It's also in the heart of the Amish community. The area is known for its natural beauty with many hiking trails and canoeing opportunities.
The area is awash in beauty and history from the ancient mound culture to the amish culture. The area has many hiking trails some of which are part of the buckeye trail and range in length from an easy 1 mile loop to rugged hikes of many miles.

Our accommodations range from primitive tent-camping to "glamping" in one of our tiny off-grid cabins. The sites are spaced out for privacy and each site offers a private picnic table and fire pit. There are two shared privies/outhouses which have basic composting toilets (not flushing). A grassy parking area is provided near the road, however, ALL SITES ARE WALK-IN (with the exception of site #1).
***Please take note that this is private property and the host lives on site. If you are looking for a place to be loud and party into the night, this is not the place for you. If you are looking to spend some quality time in nature, welcome. There are rules.
*** The gazebo kitchen is NOT COMMUNAL as it is connected to the Fern Cabin (Fern cabin guests have exclusive access to the kitchen). The kitchen IS included for those who book "The Whole Darn Place".

This is a camping cabin, in the middle of the Daniel Boone National Forest. If you are into primitive camping and living, then this is the right place for you! We are about 85 acres, surrounded by hundreds of acres of national Forest, located about 2 minutes from the Sheltowee Trail, and approximately 30 minutes away from Cave Run Lake, and 30 minutes from Carter Caves State Park.
The cabin is off grid, but has a generator for heat and Air conditioning. The outside toilet is close to the cabin and has a "Wash up" area. There is also an outdoor shower on the property just a short walk away, down behind the host's garage, that features hot water.

Seclusion! Though our home and farm are located on the property, they are not in sight or hearing of the cabin. Private hiking.
The cabin is approximately 220 square feet and sleeps two comfortably, though children are welcome. In addition to the full-sized bed, an adult-sized cot and toddler-sized mattress and extra bedding are available in the cabin. There is also room beside the cabin for a children's tent.
Water source for washing and bathing is a rainwater cistern. There is both hot and cold running water. Drinking water will be provided, or guests may bring bottled water.
There is no air conditioning. The eco-friendly, solar-powered, Amish-built cabin is naturally cool and comfortable. There are two fans.
There is a heater.
Composting toilet.
The cabin has a microwave, electric lights, ceiling fan, portable fan, and dorm-sized refrigerator. It is off-grid, solar powered with battery backup, so power is available after dark. Propane cookstove and oven.
Most people have cell service on the property, though it is spotty. There is no wifi at the cabin, and no television. Enjoy a break from technology and the peace and quiet of nature.
There is a French press in the kitchen for making your own coffee using the propane cook stove.

Perfect little cabin for us and our 2 pups. Plenty of outside space to run around and creek explore. My girls loved walking the creek the whole time. Plenty of dry firewood provided (thank you)! The “outhouse” was very clean and we appreciated the provided water for teeth brushing and hand washing. We would come back again for a quiet getaway.

Weekend Trip to The Viking Longhall
Our stay at the Viking Longhall was wonderful! We stayed with a small group of friends and, lucky for us, we basically had the place to ourselves for the weekend. We played in the creek and spent time around the fire. It's a really chill environment, and especially fun for a bunch of ren faire/DnD nerds like ourselves!
We had the Creekside Cottage and our friends were in the Yurt. Both shelters were awesome. They provide tons of options for cooking and all the little things you might forget. My only regret is that we only had a few days! The grounds and Longhall are truly something to behold. Hearing about the history of the place made it even cooler! We can't wait to go back!
Super close to Serpent Mound, also closeby are other sacred Native American sites, hiking areas and state parks, and more. Thanks, Dave, for the hospitality! Can't wait to meet Iveagh too next time!

We loved staying here, what a blessing. The hosts are SO kind, and the cabin was clean upon arrival. The land is stunning. The cabin had everything we needed, and after our previously booked stay was cancelled due to wildfire smoke we were so beyond grateful to find it last minute! It was so affordable and the area around is stunning! Highly recommend hiking the trails at red river gorge.

Josh and Megan's property was perfect for what we were looking for. I work very long hours doing home renovations and I live in a very unsafe part of Cincinnati ohio. So having a place 45 minutes away where I can get the complete opposite experience is amazing. The land beautiful the cabin cozy and clean. They have a grill, fire pit , cornhole, a pond , chickens , I also saw a duck and baby deer. Rain or Shine it's my kinda place. Look forward to going back soon maybe bring my son next time. The host gives you privacy while also making themselves a available for anything you may need. The driveway wasn't as bad as I thought though you don't want to use it as the same time as someone else. My family and I couldn't of imagined it being any better!

My stay in the Sugar Shack at Fruitdale was magical and transformative. I loved everything about it. Aimee has created a beautiful, idyllic farm, gardens, and sanctuary, everything was just as described, and I couldn’t have had a better time. I especially loved being visited by Tangy, the cat, sitting by the pond, and exploring local hiking trails. The Farm Stand is great, too, and next time, I’ll get my produce there! Thank you for your hard work, hospitality, and careful stewardship of the land. Will definitely return and recommend to others.

My family and I had a lovely time in our little cabin. We were greeted when we arrived and got all the info we needed for the weekend. Even the resident dogs came to say hello, which the kid loved. Mornings at the cabin were particularly beautiful- so peaceful and full of song birds. There were other cabins on the property, but the lush forest made you feel secluded. It was a nice little getaway.

The cabin was perfect for the four of us. We loved fishing in the pond and using the board games. We found restaurants a short drive away and visited Kincaid State Park. Would definitely stay again!

David made us feel welcome and taken care of. I appreciated the fire already being built since we arrived close to dark. It’s clear they have taken a lot of care to create a unique space. The creek is perfect - somehow there were no mosquitos. Would definitely stay here again. We happened to be the only ones staying on the land that night so it felt very private, but I think it would still be a nice experience with multiple guests staying at the other cabins due to the landscaping making you feel “tucked”.

Weekend Trip to Fruitdale Farm
The cabin is really out there in the woods and there’s a cool stream that runs right in front of it. It’s a unique camping experience. The farm has cool hiking trails and the overall vibe is very friendly and accommodating. Will be returning in the winter.

If you're looking to get away, unplugged, reset this is the place. Absolutely beautiful, tucked away in a holler. First thing we all noticed was the thought the host put into our stay. It was put together in a way even the kids wanted to leave it the way we found it. When they say all you need is your favorite pillow or blanket, they mean it. The host was welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Very respectful as far as privacy. Also, more than willing to offer assistance if asked. Sitting next to the fire, listening to the creek flowing, the fireflies, the sounds of the whippoorwill, it all made for a whimsical stay. One which we will plan again.

Weekend Trip to Fruitdale Farm
I love Fruitdale Farm. The Cattail Cabin was just what we needed for a quick (rainy) weekend trip. We stayed warm and dry and spent a lot of time sitting on the porch watching the red-winged blackbird fledglings in the cattails and their parents coming and going. We fell asleep to the sound of peepers and awoke to the chatter of birds.

Cozy and secluded little cabin was a perfect stay for the night while passing through. Heard owls at night and woke up to bird song in the morning. The provided generator was a nice touch, though we didn’t end up using it.
