Grins & Pickin's CampFarm was created to share the outdoors with others. Growing food & flowers, camping & hiking is what we like to do. And we like sharing these activities. Our family oriented outdoor recreation facility offers primitive camping, $PYO$ produce during the growing season, homesteading activities & nature-based programs.
The peaceful 20-acre country farm has food gardens, a frog habitat pool, a barnyard for the chickens & ducks, a bluegill fishin' pond, a pollinator maze, a prairie garden, and an outdoor stage. After crossing a winding creek into 10 acres of woods, you may see deer, turkey, fox, coyote, mink, eagles & barred owls.
In early spring, the peepers are peeping, wildflowers are abundant & the vernal pools welcome the wood frogs, salamanders and fairy shrimp. Summer brings on the bullfrogs, butterflies, dragonflies and fireflies. Fall is a great time to pull grapevine to make wreaths & to build stick forts in the woods.
We cater to the tent camper so that we can hear frogs & owls instead of generators. But, there is an RV section up front for those with quiet generators with several feet of gravel under the grass to hold the weight of your camper.
We charge by the carload & there are different rates for driving back toward the woods for camping depending on the number of wheels & the weight of your vehicle (a factor on the wear & tear on the land). We believe in going outside to play, growing & eating fresh food, strengthening family bonds and promoting the awareness of our natural resources.
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING: 1) The speed limit is 5 mph as soon as you enter the property (kids & dogs are quick to dart in front of you). 2) As a state registered campground, it is mandatory that you check in at the house to fill out a Registration Form before heading to your campsite. 3) No glass allowed anywhere on the property (we don't want our feet or paws cut open and can do without flat tires). 4) Children under 18 must be attended to at all times for their safety (the frog pool is 10' deep, the pond is 8-10' deep depending on rains, and the creek can turn into a churning river).

We bought this 125+ year old farm in 2010 with the hope of bringing it back to life. Madden Farm has been in the Madden family and its descendants for seven generations. The original farmhouse on Madden Farm dates back to the 1860s. In 1980, a second dwelling was added to the property when a cabin on a nearby farm was moved across the fields and placed near Madden Pond. In recent years, the family has endeavored to be good stewards of the land by planting trees, growing fruits and vegetables while incorporating sustainable practices. This is meant to be a quiet relaxing getaway and is what I offer. April through October the foliage is beautiful, November through March the leaves may be more on the ground than in the trees; allowing an openness that hinders the purpose of seclusion. This 80 acre farmland has been in the family for 6 generations. Some of the land is still used for farming to this day. The old barn, built in the late 1800's still stands.
Now there is also a motocross track on the property. The track is only open occasionally. Enjoy easy trails in the woods, feed fish in the pond, and if you would like to see our goats and chicken we can arrange a time to introduce you!

Madden Farm has been in the Madden family and its descendants for seven generations. The original farmhouse on Madden Farm dates back to the 1860s. In 1980, a second dwelling was added to the property when a cabin on a nearby farm was moved across the fields and placed near Madden Pond. In recent years, the family has endeavored to be good stewards of the land by planting trees, growing fruits and vegetables while incorporating sustainable practices. Also of interest, since 2014, family members from Madden Farm have hosted the Madden Road Music Fest, a one-day music festival held annually on the second Saturday in August.
Our camping sites are secluded, offering a variety of shade and sunshine. Each site has a picnic table and fire pit. Connected to the sites, we have walking trails that meander through woods where you'll see a variety of trees and wildflowers. Our community area is centrally located with a fire pit, picnic tables, and an open area for group gatherings. The toilet and sink for hand washing are in this area.
While at Madden Farm, you can relax under the trees in Sweet Gum Hammock Grove, witness spectacular sunsets and star-filled night skies like no other, and enjoy the beauty and serenity of Ohio farmland. If you enjoy fishing, bring your pole and gear to fish (catch and release) from the banks of Madden Pond.

Christy was so sweet. We enjoyed meeting her and her pup Duke! The land is immaculate and we enjoyed the marked trail through the woods and her little halloween path. She has really thought of everything. The firepit was great! I also recommend her pear chutney!!! It is also nice that we could book for one night. Thank you for your hospitality Christy! Owners were great- he met us with his golf cart and made setting up our camp site super easy. The site itself was secluded and primative- exactly what we were looking for. Shower/bathroom was clean and very handy. Also, this site is close to the lake which was ideal for fishing. The pond on-site was also great to fish in. Had more success there than at the lake! Would recommend! Only thing to note- we brought our hammock and at this particular site we had to set it up on the entrance path as there wasn't a ton of great trees to use at this particular campsite at Fairhaven.

The property was nicely cared for and private. The host was friendly and greeted us on arrival, showed us around the site, and made sure we had everything we needed. The "bathroom" is a Home Depot bucket with a toilet lid, which was a new experience for us. However, it was cleaner and just as nice (if not nicer) than most porta pottys. Just bring a umbrella if it rains :) There is a bit of traffic noise off in the distance, but this didn't bother us.

We’ve been staying at Christy’s farm for years. It’s amazing. I have a 10 and 7 year old, and it’s been really fun watching their interests in the farm evolve over the years. We started camping here when they were 18 months and 4.5 years old. There’s never a dull moment from the fishing pond to the frog pond to the pollinator maze to the creek. The scenery is beautiful. Christy is a wonderful host—present and available whenever you need.

Tent camping at Melissa’s was quiet and peaceful. There was a large metal fire ring perfect to enjoy an evening and morning fire. Large picnic table to sit around and a great surrounding area. Convenient indoor bathroom and shower for campers. Close to Yellow Springs.
