The Firefly is nestled between trees, on a loud, rushing creek, on a five acre property that is mostly cleared and on a hard surface dead end rd, a few miles from Hillsville, Va. The firefly is comfortable for a small family or a romantic get away for couples. The creek is stocked with trout, with easy access along the creek, perfect for wading, floating, and relaxing to the noise. Firefly has a camp style charcoal grill, a firepit with lots of firewood, a wood pellet stove on the covered deck for grilling when its rainy outside, a wood pellet fireplace for heat, outside shower with hot water, a comfy queen size memory foam bed, fresh linens and towels, and an outside bathtub situated by the creek. it has running water and a composting toilet and there is an unattached bathhouse with a conventional toilet and an outside shower as well. The FireFly is pet friendly and please leave $25 on the counter for the pet fee. The Firefly is 6 miles from I-77 and The Blue Ridge Parkway. We really enjoyed our stay at Mother Earth and our dog did too. Beautiful views , peaceful very secluded with all the comfort of home. We love the way they set up the yurt really cool how they decorated and designed it inside and out, romantic and fun, nice fire pit with wood provided, wrap around deck with hot tub and seating picnic table & rockers, spacious bathroom, very clean, we would definitely go back and highly recommend.

I booked mother Earth to celebrate a birthday and anniversary celebration. We could not have been any happier with the yurt. It had about anything that you could need. It was decorated in such a thoughtful and beautiful way. You could tell that a lot of thought and Care was put into the decorations. Everything was really clean when we got there. We were also pleasantly surprised that jodee put up a happy birthday banner for my boyfriend and also wrote a little sign for us. Wishing us a happy birthday/ anniversary. Weekend Trip to Firefly tent on the creek bank
Such a peaceful retreat, with everything you could possibly need! Jodee has this place set up with all necessities, and the pellet grill was such a dream to use, that now my hubby wants one. Lots of wildlife- deer grazing, random white floof of a dog, the sweetest kitty under the tent, loads of lightning bugs- our reactive dog was able to be off leash, and loved his creek play, but we had to keep him tethered most times, due to these unexpected, random visitors. Several great nearby hikes that were in the info book, and dog friendly. Even in late June heat, we were comfortable with the fans provided, but did enjoy our extras from home, for porch sitting. Amazingly, no issues with mosquitoes, and I'm one that attracts them. Plenty of hot water in the shower, and so nice to bathe outdoors- there could be a bit more of a shield from the road, but I didn't feel exposed. Our weekend had some heavy storms, and there were no leaks or concerns with the tent, and it was amazing to listen to the rain on the "roof". Definitely somewhere I would recommend, and come back to!

This yurt was amazing! So beautiful and decorated so nicely, very cozy and clean. We enjoyed the hot tub and stargazing. There was a thunderstorm one night and it was amazing to watch through the dome on the top and sleep to the sound of the rain. I was concerned that it may get hot inside of the yurt but the A/C works great, we were very comfortable the entire time. I would highly recommend and definitely would return!

Grandfather Mountain State Park
Gather up the climbing gear and head an hour east of Wilkesboro to Grandfather Mountain State Park. The rugged terrain and severe weather offer a challenge of cliffs, cables, and climbing ladders for hikers and climbers in breathtaking biodiversity. Recognized as part of the United Nation’s International Network of Biosphere Reserves, Grandfather Mountain provides a home to 16 ecological communities and 72 rare or endangered species. Free permits are required for hikers who want to explore the park and must be filled out at the trailhead. Campers can spend the night on-site, though it’s only open to backpackers who want tent or group campsites.
W. Kerr Scott Dam & Reservoir
Live like a local at the W. Kerr Scott Dam & Reservoir. Located in Wilkesboro at the end of the Yadkin River Greenway, the Kerr Scott Reservoir offers campgrounds, tent campsites, RV hookups, and day-use areas around the water. Known for boating, fishing, and watersports, campers can bring their boats and ride the reservoir in style or explore the history and culture of the dam. Built-in boat launches make it easy for kayaks and canoes to enter from one of the waterfront parks or beaches.
When to go
While Wilkesboro camping is available year-round, there are variations in the seasonal temperatures and available activities. Summers are hot and humid, reaching average highs near 90°F.
