We are within walking distance to Lake Tillary and less than 5 mins to the boat landing. You may bring your boat and park it here while you camp. SPECIAL NOTE: There are animals here that you may pet once you have been properly introduced. You may bring your pets as long as they are vaccinated and behaved. If they fight with other animals or chase chickens or ducks you may want to test this upon your arrival. Unfortunately, you must keep them on leash at all times. Our County does have a leash law, and should property🌱🌹🌻🚜🚗📬🗑or animals🦌🐂🐏🐐🐰🦃🦆 be damaged or harmed you will be held responsible. For example, if your dog kills a chicken, you buy the chicken🐓🐔🐥. If they harm a horse🐎 or donkey🐴, you are responsible for ALL vet fees. Also, be aware we have coyotes, osprey, hawks, as any rural area does. Small animals must be suprevised. We are not responsible for acts of nature. The barn is beautiful and you are welcome to take photos, however, you are NOT permitted in the barn without supervision. Absolutley NO smoking or fire near the barn. It is over 100 years old and built by my great grand family and is irreplaceable. SPECIAL FEATURE: As I am just beginning the camp on site experience I offer several options and additional services. #1. Some find out after arriving that I teach NC Concealed Carry Handgun Classes. Some chose to camp on other weekends, some choose to go out to eat during those times, and some don't mind either way. #2. I am also much in favor of work for camp site. Some have asked to do clean up or other small jobs for the priviledge to camp. So far this has worked out well, with one exception. Please do not accept an offer to take on a task that you do not know how to do. Example, pulling weeds or trimming if you do not know what a weed verses flower looks like. LOL #3. There is plenty of firewood, see photos, here laying around and some trees down that will make great firewood (bring your own cutting tools.) We also sell firewood by the bundle. #4. Located in the tranquil, natural woodlands of our historic family farm. There are 30 acres of hiking trails with remnants of what once was an 80 acre old fashioned family tobacco farm. There are plenty of level areas covered in lush grass and surrounded by trees as old as dirt! The Honeymoon Sweet provides an indoor experience. It was built by my Uncle Frank who cut the wood off the land and milled it into the lumber he needed to make this unique, rustic space. There is a rock fire pit with lots of easily accessible firewood. You can hang out and enjoy mother nature or visit one of the many local tourist attractions like Pilot Mountain State Park, historic Mt Airy with it's charming small town hospitality, Hanging Rock State Park in the Sauratown Mountains affords breathtaking views, hiking trails, waterfalls and fishing. If you are a history buff, we are just a short drive to Bethania a National Historic Landmark, Historic Bethabara founded by Moravians in 1753 or step back to the 18th century at Old Salem home of the famous Winkler Bakery and Salem Tavern that provided lodging for George Washington in 1791.

The farmhouse served as Benjamin’s primary residence for six years, providing a never-ending source of inspiration and peace that most folks only experience a handful times in their life. In 2011, Benjamin moved to Boone and began leasing the farmhouse as a vacation rental. In 2018, he purchased the adjacent five acres (that he could not afford in 2004) and began to reclaim the land and creek from the scrubby, thorny growth that had settled on the dormant property. While the property transformed before his eyes, Benjamin felt as if he was discovering this place for the very first time. As he reveled in the excitement and pleasant exhaustion of working with the land, he became increasingly convinced that this special place was meant to be shared. Thus, the concept of Wonderlust Acres as a gathering place was born.More than a business, Wonderlust Acres is an expression of Benajmin’s appreciation for the spirit of the mountains and the endearing communities that they envelop. With the opening of Wonderlust Acres, Benjamin invites you to experience the enchantment for yourself.Learn more about this land:Located just 2 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Mountains-to-Sea trail, and just 30 minutes from Boone/West Jefferson/Wilkesboro, and nestled in a private, open-meadowed valley overlooking a noisy trout stream and large ponds, the timber frame barn is a 3800 sqft wedding venue with the 2 changing rooms which have been converted to 2 glamping rooms. Both are locked off from the main barn structure to allow use when no events are scheduled, and have separate private keyed access, and include streaming TV, a 2-top burner, mini-fridge, and fold-down small full sofa bed for 2 (larger people may need to bring a blow-up mattress/pad for more room to spread out!). There is a men's and women's bathroom with 2 stalls joining the barn and accessed from the outside, along with 2 outdoor showers for longer stays. Propane, on-demand hot water is provided. The other structure that can be rented is the pond pavilion (an additional guest fee is charged over 4 people to accommodate) that features 2 full-size outdoor mattresses, a camping stove, chairs, and large firepit and firecircle. There are picnic tables also on site for use. This is truly luxury camping.

Where to go

Lake Norman State Park

Set on the northern shore of North Carolina’s largest manmade body of freshwater, Luke Norman State Park was once known as Duke Power State Park. The inland sea was formed as part of the construction of Duke Power’s Cowans Ford Dam in the mid-20th century. The warm water fishery is home to striped, largemouth, and white bass, and boat dock use is free at the park. Campers can also rent rowboats and canoes. All campsites come with picnic tables and fire rings, plus access to potable water, washrooms, and hot showers. Some RV sites have full hookups with 30- and 50-amp service available. Cozy wood cabins feature heating and air-conditioning units.

Stone Mountain State Park

About an hour north of Statesville, Stone Mountain State Park boasts several hiking trails ranging from the easy 0.4-mile K.I.P. Track Trail to the much more strenuous Stone Mountain Loop Trail and the 11.32-mile Mountains-to-Sea State Trail. Explore waterfalls and winding creeks through the forest while spotting such local wildlife as woodpeckers, hawks, black bears, and salamanders. Camping options include backpacking sites for tents, plus trailer and RV campsites, some with electric (up to 50-amp) and water hookups. Each site has its own tent pad, picnic table, and fire ring, plus access to toilets and hot showers.

Morrow Mountain State Park

Boasting amazing views of the surrounding Uwharrie Mountains, Morrow Mountain State Park is at the heart of one of the oldest mountain ranges in the eastern United States. On clear days, soak in panoramic views of the neighboring countryside and Yadkin-Pee Dee River from the top of the mountain. Lake Tillery offers terrific fishing, including a boat launch and fishing pier, as well as a waterfront picnic area. Primitive campsites through the Backpack Trail require a two-mile hike, while Hipcampers can also choose from modern cabins with fireplaces and back porches, as well as tent, RV, and trailer campsites, including some with electrical hookups.

When to go

Spring and fall are among the best times to go camping near Statesville, when milder temperatures can make outdoor pursuits like hiking and biking more enjoyable for some Hipcampers. These shoulder seasons also have fewer insects, like mosquitoes, compared to summer. Wildlife tends to be more active in the spring and fall, too, offering better opportunities to catch local fauna in their natural environment, both in the forest and along the water.
