Fishing is available all around the area ,and the creek can be reached with a short walk through the woods or by going down the road. There is no clear-cut trail, as I keep the land as natural as possible. A public boat ramp is within walking distance.
With minimal light pollution, Gator Creek offers excellent stargazing and a peaceful wildlife-rich environment. You may spot dragonflies, birds, squirrels ,bears and more, though wildlife sightings are never guaranteed.
Hunting in nearby game lands(in season) Fishing, Boating via the public ramp, Wildlife viewing, and stargazing. No hunting is allowed on Gator Creek property itself.

-You will be surrounded by 9000 acres of the Palmetto Pear Tree Nature Preserve so there are plenty of wild animals. Including but not limited to deer, turkey, raccoons, possums, squirrels, coyote, endangered Red Wolfs, Bear, snakes, eagles, otters, birds galore and so much more. You truly never know what wildlife you may encounter.

I did a one night primitive camp at Joyce's land. It is near gamelands but was mostly quiet, especially after dark. I slept well and if I had stayed longer, I would have done more fishing! Thanks for the hospitality!

Gator Creek was a perfect place to get away from everything for a night. Joyce's land is well-cleared and accommodating for whatever flavor of camping you're there for. It was the ideal distance to be close enough to civilization, yet quiet and private enough to feel at home in the woods for a night. Joyce was very responsive and kind, answering all questions we had promptly. We would be happy to stay there again!

Joyce was very kind and allowed me to set up near the fire pit and outside toilet. The near by water area was pretty, especially at sunset. This is a great place for anyone who wants to be in solitude and stick to the campsite. Except for the local hunters who briefly set off some rounds in the day time, it was incredibly quiet. The site is in a very small rural community with only a single convenient store, but there are no shops or local entertainment. Would recommend for anyone into having a complete wilderness experience.

I absolutely loved my stay here! Sam thought about everything! From the fire pit, to the incredible hot tub with coffee in the morning, I would return 100000 times! This is the perfect choice for those looking for simplicity when camping. The area was spacious and well maintained making it perfect for tents, or in my case, a small 15ft off grid camper. The driveway leads back to an area surrounded by trees giving it a sense of privacy despite not being out in the middle of no where. Given the convenience of the location.... you're not going to find a better deal for miles around if you're looking for something simple.

Beautiful setting that is convenient to Avon yet also private and natural. What a great way to use the space under a beach house! It was perfect to keep our teardrop out of the rain and give us plenty of covered space to spread out. Note that while this home is as close to the dune as possible, the homes on this part of the island are set back from the actual beach so there is a bit of a hilly nature walk to the dune and a steep drop down to the beach. However, that nature walk (complete with wild flowers) was actually our favorite part! Just a note that those who have mobility issues might need to use the public access walkway a few houses down the street which has decking and stairs for better accessibility. The owner is very quick to respond when we had questions. We did have a few minor issues (e.g no hot water or lights in the shower or bathroom) but we loved it regardless and will hopefully be back!

This was my second time staying at Gator Creek and it certainly won't be my last. It's very private, secure, quiet and beautiful. What more could you ask for?!
It's also close to the ARNWR (see pictures) and it's just a little farther to the OBX for those so inclined.
Stop by the local country store and say hello to Mr. Baily while you're there.
Watch for the muskrats in the water near the entrance. They're fun to watch!
