Weekend Trip to Farmhouse Gallery & Gardens

Pat welcomed me at my çampsite. Robin invited me to sit and talk by the creek. He showed me the fruit on the Paw-Paw trees. The peahens and peacocks visited me in the evening and in the morning. Magic the dog brought the rubber toy for me to throw so that he could run and catch it in the air. I appreciate the privilege of having been invited to stay at The Farmhouse Gallery and Gardens and the privilege of having been invited to provide this review! Thank you all!

Weekend Trip to Camp Karuga

Kathy was extremely courteous. Bathrooms were very clean, especially considering this is an outdoors/camping venue. The hot water heater wasn't working in the shower house, but Kathy offered to let me shower in her guest room. Wish I had more time to stay, I would like to hike the trail, and possibly try the horseback ride. Hope to come back in couple months for a long weekend.

Our campsite was astoundingly beautiful! Glittering mica everywhere and super easy access to the creek. Kathy was so welcoming and helpful — very easy to communicate with. The dogs and horses on the premises were all also incredibly sweet. Do yourself a favor and stay here!

We have stayed at two of the campsites now & will continue to come back until we have been to them all! It’s a beautiful property with wonderful hosts- GREAT FOR FAMILIES. We absolutely love it. Would recommend to anyone!

Weekend Trip to Linville Adventure Pasture (LAP)

Christian is a welcoming host and his sites in the pasture are wonderful. We had two families at the snail and turtle sites. The zip line and tire swing were huge hits with the kids. We watched fireflies and swam in the river. The adults tried our hand at axe throwing. The portojohn was clean, and the dish station was so helpful. Went to Fonta Flora brewery for dinner one night. Recommend all around and hope to come back.

A responsive hostess and quaint natural beauty made this camping trip a much needed breath of fresh air. A great place to unplug, enjoy family or friends around a campfire or be lulled to sleep by the sounds of the babbling brook and crickets. The canine “welcome staff” and potential for add-on horse-back riding/kayaking were also a plus.

This place is an absolute gem! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with the warmest welcome by Dianne, she’s incredibly kind, thoughtful, and genuinely cares about her guests. She made sure we had everything we needed and even checked in on us during our stay to ensure we were comfortable. The location itself is stunning, peaceful, scenic, and perfect for a getaway. My husband, friends and I had an unforgettable time camping under the stars, swimming in the refreshing creek, river tubing, and grilling. It was the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. If you’re looking for a place to unwind, reconnect with nature, and be hosted by someone who truly goes above and beyond, this is it. We will definitely be back! We had a blast!! We were warmly welcomed by the sweetest pup named CJ, which made us soooo happy right from the start!! There were wagons to help us with unloading and getting our stuff to the camp site. Our camp site was AMAZING!! A waterfall in the creek right by us and made for an amazing nights sleep! The bathrooms and showers were perfect. The horses on-site were super sweet and let us say hello. The kiddos ventured thru the woods and had the best time!! We will definitely go back! Kathy was super responsive and an amazing host!! Definitely recommend!!

Absolutely loved staying here! The hosts were so kind during our stay. I also loved how quiet our stay was. We spent most of our time playing in the creek and on our last day we decided to hike Linville Falls and drive the Viaduct. We will definitely be back!

We absolutely enjoyed the peace and tranquility of this space. It was close to many beautiful hiking trails as well. My favorite was taking a short walk to the river to dip in. Definitely would come back!

Great little spot with 3 different sites. We stayed at site 2 which has a parking spot/tent spot, shelter with picnic table/chairs and fire pit. Each site has its own fire pit and a shelter which is really nice. The hosts are fantastic and greet you as you come in. They have fire wood and a very clean porta potty bathroom on site. The driveway looks rough but my small hatchback made it across the bridge and down the gravel lot. It's a short driveway just be aware of mud spots when it rains. We definitely are coming back as this was one of the best locations, safe and had just about everything we needed. Thank you Garry & Dianne!

Site 2 with the deck was perfect! Great access to river / swimming hole, nice private area for fire, outlet on deck, and plenty of chairs. Stars are amazing on a clear night, and sleeping with the sounds of the creek was very relaxing.

6 nights at The Hideaway

We absolutely loved our stay at this charming little cabin tucked away in the woods pretty much right on the side of Mt. Mitchell. The setting was incredibly serene and beautiful—just what we needed to unplug. During our stay, some epic summer thunderstorms rolled through, and the temperature dropped by what felt like 20 degrees. In late June, we found ourselves reaching for jackets and sweatpants at night! There’s a hiking trail right off the property that leads to a stunning waterfall. The trail was a bit of a challenge due to damage from Hurricane Helene, but still 100% worth it. The nearby Blue Ridge Parkway was closed during our visit, so some of the local trail access was limited—but we didn’t mind the short drive over to the Linville Falls area for more exploring. The cabin itself was just as described—simple, clean, and stocked with all the basics you need. One big plus: the tankless hot water heater! Perfect if you’re traveling with a group and don’t want to worry about running out of hot water. Bob was super responsive and helpful throughout our stay. There are also some great options for tent camping on the property. We scoped out a peaceful creekside spot and a more primative cabin. You can hear the creek from almost anywhere on the land—it was the perfect white noise to fall asleep to. We’re already planning our next trip back. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking to disconnect and enjoy the beauty of the mountains!

2 nights at Black Bear Resort

So, the BB Resort is definitely out of the way and I think borders Cherokee Forest land. I was on the property for two nights, the upper tenting area. Unfortunately for me, rain seems to follow me. That upper area can get a little soupy with a lot of rain but it was also really peaceful - I had it all to myself. There is a little creek / stream running along one side. Not sure which # site I had but it was the next to last on the left. Good ground cover. Moss, which helped in keeping my tent mostly dry at the bottom. Good tree coverage above but when it rains so hard... The further into the upper field you go, the weaker the wifi signal gets if you need it. However, the deck area in the back of the restaurant, which unfortunately I didn't partake in, was nice and also a large covered porch. The lower camp has some hammock sites and all kinds of little cabin bldgs, not to mention beach tent sites. A bit of everything. I wouldn't try driving anything too big from Hampton to the site - road is kind of narrow and swith-backy in spots, but I'm a wuss. Good experience except for my self-inflicted mountain rain-storms.

Beautiful place! Stayed at site 2 with an 11 and 14 year old. The kids loved the creek. This campground is pretty awesome! The lady in charge, Charles, and the chef were incredibly helpful! Camp was very close to hiking trails and there is a very laid-back atmosphere. I would recommend this place!

Pondside Single, DBA Mud Puddle

Pondside Single and the lower part of my property were decimated in the catastrophic floods of Hurricane Helene, September 27, 2024. The 1st three photos are what it looks like now. Please know that we (and Bee Tree Valley) are still in the recovery phase, and it will take *years* to recover. Pondside Single still has the electric hookups and wifi that folks enjoyed. But it is no longer a tucked away, private, sweet and comforting place to camp. Please take this into account if you would like to book with us. Pondside Single pond was originally a small quarry outlier for Grove Stone Quarry in Black Mountain. There are many small quarries in this area that were dug in the 1940s and 1950s. After they finished their work, reclamation was done, and the quarries were filled in by the streams and tributaries which flow down this valley. It is a very shallow pond which offers sanctuary to birds, fishes, salamanders, frogs, snapping turtles, beaver and otters. I have installed a Clemson Beaver Pond Leveler at the overflow. This device tricks the Beavers and they can not hear or feel the water flowing out of the pond. It has been in place for 3 years and works like a charm. Beavers are very industrious creatures.

Rock bottom campground that I am rebuilding after hurricane Helene has 6-8 Campsites right on beautiful Buck creek, a federally protected creek for its water cleanliness and clarity. It is known for its precious gems and minerals. Perfect place for panning . Each campsite comes with its own waterfall fed swimming hole. There is power, water and septic on the property, but not yet to the campsites. There is a small outdoor hot shower and toilet, at the moment, but we are working on a full bathhouse and shower. Also we will soon be running the power and water to each campsite. Great WiFi throughout the campground. If you have a self contained camper or rv , we can fill your tanks with fresh water, and also have a pump out station , so you can still use your bathroom and toilet. The campground is only 3.5 miles from the blue ridge parkway. Within an hour of Asheville, black mountain, swananoa, old fort, Marion, morganton, lenoir, Burnsville, spruce pine, little Switzerland, linville, linville gorge, linville falls, black mountain Crabtree falls, roaring fork falls, cawtaba falls, Tom’s creek falls, and many more. To many hikes to list. Only 9 miles to the nearest city , Marion. Super quiet, beautiful open night sky for stargazing. We are a work in progress, so please excuse some of our construction views. It is a small campground with all 6-8 sites directly creekside with picnic tables and fire rings. Situated on and between two peaks of Little Phoenix Mountain range in Jefferson Ashe County. Our sites’ altitudes range from 3100 feet to over 3600 feet, which is a lot of slope and hillside to say the least. As a guest you will be offered insane long views and limited exposure to the oldest registered breed of bovine in the world. Our Scottish Highland Cattle are majestic and fit in quite well in the NC mountainside. Located in the Blue Ridge mountains, we have natural water springs popping out, some of which are tapped to drink from. (10.1.23 currently farm springs are not accessible to guests, shatley springs up the road approx 4miles north has a public spring that we highly recommend) If you are looking for a camping spot that is only 5-10 minutes from town (Jefferson NC or the quaint Downtown West Jefferson) but feels like you're in the middle of no where, then we have it! The Blue Ridge Parkway is less than 20 minutes away and the New River equally close. Looking Forward: July update. We are currently working on provided an all downhill mountain bike trail from 3600 to 3150ft. This path will be double wide for the most part and wide open at first to soak in the se view. 10/9/2024 NOTICE: We had some damage to our road due to Hurricane Helene that made it impassable. It has since been repaired and is opened to traffic. There are still some remaining rough areas, but the road is easily passable by passenger vehicles and RV's up to 28ft. Our site was once part of a much larger farm growing tobacco and raising cattle and other farm animals. The existing tobacco barn was built in the early 1960's. The concrete pad used for RV camping was used to store silage for the cows. The non-potable water source is a mountain spring that has been used on the farm since the 1930's. While many tobacco barns in the area have been torn down for their rusted tin roofing and rustic siding, we have worked to restore the barn and preserve its history.

One mile down the road from the farm is the Virginia Creeper Trail, renowned for biking, but as a multi-use trail, you can also enjoy walking, running, horseback riding, fishing, cross country skiing, and geocaching. South Holston Lake is only minutes away by vehicle, with two public access boating ramps 10 to 20 minutes away. For a drink by the water, head to Abingdon Vineyards- only 10 minutes away. Access to the Appalachian Trail is only 20 minutes away in Damascus. We became caretakers of this lovely property in June of 2021, moving from our existing farm, 45 minutes away. When we got it, it was a blank slate of a hayfield, and we have spent the summer laying infrastructure so that we may grow our cut-flower, honey, and vegetable business.

That’s why I created the Waldhaus resort.During the past years, the Sawmill has become my favorite place to spend quality time in what I call "Cabin Living" which I love so much. Nearly every day there is a small challenge, nothing comes easy, but all the coziness and comfort is there. The water is supplied by a spring above the mill. Electricity is generated by solar technology and a generator. All refrigeration and cooking appliances are propane; and so is the basic heat (propane again) - and a very old Jotul wood stove will do the rest. I sleep a lot on the day bed in the living room so the Sawmill can be comfortably rented for up to 4 guests. The outhouse is a thing of the past, just recently I installed a compositing toilet besides the bedroom.We also offer The Summit which is a high elevation, 2-story cabin surrounded by national forest which has evolved into an off-grid living and play space located at nearly 3300 feet elevation on a 1/2 acre flat with an incredible view. There are very private old forest service trails leading directly into the Pisgah National Forest.

The history of this place is deep, even the nails for the cabin and farm house that is now the clubhouse were hand crafted by my great grandfather in his blacksmith shop, along with the wagon wheels, horse shoes, misc farm utensils etc... there was no running out to Lowes to pick up what was needed, it was made in the blacksmith shop. We love riding ATV's and SXS's on the trails on the mountains that I grew up on with my 3 brothers, we hope the people who visit and experience the mountains feel about them the way we do, we love em. We like to give riding tours and talking about the mountain and its challenges. We named the park from the famous product that was created here during prohibition, Cherry Bounce Moonshine. You can visit some of the original still sites on the mountain, of course they are not operational today. About the adventure co side, We are an adrenaline pumping ATV and SXS park with 25+ miles of mountainous trails at four skill levels; Green (Easy), Blue (Challenging), Black Diamond (Very Difficult) and Double Black Diamond (Most Difficult). You can bring your own ATV or SXS or rent one of ours. We have cabins & camp sites that are accessed by ATV or SXS on the mountains as well as hiking or biking. We do not allow jeeps, trucks or dirt bike motorcycles on the mountain, just ATV's and SXS vehicles.
