Wander our land to enjoy various level hiking trails including a 20 minute hike to a creek and waterfall in the forest (some steep spots and creek is intermittent) or climb up Shaggy Peak (seasoned hikers only please). IMPORTANT: We are up 1.3 miles of dirt road (with 5-7+% grade in a few short stretches) and are not near public transportation so you will need your own vehicle! As well as a monastic and very grounding Ensuite Bedroom, or a simple campsite if you want to bring your own camper or tent. All facilities have access to a guest bathroom inside the main house. I offer dog sitting while you soak at Ojo, healing modalities that you'll find in the Extras section, and my dear neighbor Jackie takes appointments for massages with homemade essential oils. +++ 6 miles to Ojo Caliente Hot Springs. There you will find the best restaurant in the area, with locally/organically farmed produce. The land is naturally and beautifully wild- it is not a manicured campsite. The dirt rd down to the property is best suited for higher clearance vehicles, but is manageable for city cars.  With land by the river comes the mosquitos- June to August only. They are predominantly active during sunrise and sunset; long loose fitting clothes and a repellent work great. Waterhole, Waterfall and climbing sites near by, as well as Plaza Blanca, Abiquiu, Ghost Ranch and the Taos Gorge are 30 mins drive away.  *No cell service in the greater area. WiFi reaches around the house/deck and allows for WiFi Calling: that’s a setting in your phone that enables phone calls & texts beside usual internet access.

The desert can get cold at night. With enough notice, a portable propane heater can be provided with for an additional charge. Plus one of the oldest gold mines in North America. The neighboring towns are close by and quite famous and filled with things to do. History abounds here and I am happy to tell the tales! There are several restaurants to find a great meal and musical entertainment. Believe it or not, there is a lot of talent in them thar hills! Hiking, biking and horseback riding are available in the Cerrillos Hills Park just a mile away. There's even a nice arroyo trail to take you to the Galisteo River riparian area just feet from the hogan door. We even have a horse barn, round pen and a couple acres of fenced desert. We just said farewell to our last horse who was 30 years old, so we also offer room for your horses if you are traveling with them. A $25 per horse fee will be charged per day. Bring your own feed, please. The property includes a round 350 square foot straw bale structure with a queen size bed, reading nook (which can also suffice for a second (twin sized) bed for a 3rd person). There is A/C and an electric 'wood stove' for heat. The kitchen includes instant hot water and everything to prepare a meal (you bring the food). Amazing 360 degree views from the rooftop include the Sangre de Cristo, Sandia and Jemez Mountain ranges. The outhouse is fully equipped (even heated in the winter months), super clean and just 25 feet from the door. We allow dogs (please let me know how many when making a reservation) and have room for tents and motorhomes. Soon to come next Spring is a Boho chic horse trailer!

We've built a custom outdoor solar-heated shower with both hot and cold water that is extremely efficient. The water-system is filled daily and holds approximately six gallons (hot). There is a water-saving shower head with an on/off mechanism. "Navy showers" are a must: turn on to get wet, turn off to lather up and then rinse off. With this method, more than one person can shower. To take advantage of the solar gain, best used in the afternoon or evening. We offer soap, shampoo, conditioner and towels. There is a nice bench, lots of hooks to hang your towels/clothes, and a shower caddy. The area is private and secluded with solar lighting for nighttime use. There is a separate sink (cold water only) and private enclosed toilet facility next to the shower area. Guidebook in tent listing restaurants, bars, tap houses within 10 minutes drive and without need to go into Santa Fe. Brad and Ciana welcome you to the Santa Fe Treehouse Camp & Wilderness Preserve, managed by The Wilderness Institute. The camp was founded 40 years ago as a summer camp for kids. We continue to offer camps for children and their parents and grandparents (family camps), as well as welcome adults and other groups to enjoy the vast and wild high desert nature up on this ridge. Register for our nature education activities and resources lead by The Wilderness Institute (available for all of our guests). These topics include sustainability, recycling, composting, water conservation, wildfire prevention, outdoor safety, and nature awareness along with the use of our hiking trails. You can also join an archery class, tomahawk throwing, climbing on the mobile climbing wall, Yoga, Qigong, Climbing Into The Heart of the Mother Tree, Star talks and more! There are beautiful views and access to Shaggy Peak, the southernmost tip of the Rocky Mountains and the Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range. Wander our land to enjoy various level hiking trails including a 20 minute hike to a creek and waterfall in the forest (some steep spots and creek is intermittent) or climb up Shaggy Peak (seasoned hikers only please). IMPORTANT: We are up 1.3 miles of dirt road (with 5-7+% grade in a few short stretches) and are not near public transportation so you will need your own vehicle! Be aware that the roads can be snowy, icy or muddy and rutted ( 4-wheel or All-trak recommended in certain times of year). We don’t guarantee the road will be plowed. We generally close for the season due to cold weather around Halloween and reopen just before Memorial Day. This is a non-smoking, no candle facility.

Learn more about this land: Lush high desert river oasis nestled in a fertile valley in the Carson National Forest right between the fiery expanse of Taos and the rolling colorful formations of Abiquiu. Peaceful and private 3 acres right by the river at the edge of a little quaint town called La Madera (145 people, no shops)- just 6 miles to the healing mineral Hot Springs of Ojo Caliente, a place of emergence or rebirth as known to the local Natives. Right by the river, held by a ridge (that makes for amazing sunset hikes), I have a 16ft Yurt Canvas set up with furnishings (desk, couch, wash stand) and a wooden Queen Bed with down bedding. This site can only be reached by foot across the river via stumps- a car can be parked near by.. approx. 50ft.  I also have a Vintage Camper that can be heated, has a kitchen, electricity and plenty of outdoor furniture with a fire pit and serene mountain views. As well as a monastic and very grounding Ensuite Bedroom, or a simple campsite if you want to bring your own camper or tent. All facilities have access to a guest bathroom inside the main house. I offer dog sitting while you soak at Ojo, healing modalities that you'll find in the Extras section, and my dear neighbor Jackie takes appointments for massages with homemade essential oils. +++ 6 miles to Ojo Caliente Hot Springs. There you will find the best restaurant in the area, with locally/organically farmed produce. The land is naturally and beautifully wild- it is not a manicured campsite. The dirt rd down to the property is best suited for higher clearance vehicles, but is manageable for city cars.  With land by the river comes the mosquitos- June to August only. They are predominantly active during sunrise and sunset; long loose fitting clothes and a repellent work great. Waterhole, Waterfall and climbing sites near by, as well as Plaza Blanca, Abiquiu, Ghost Ranch and the Taos Gorge are 30 mins drive away.  *No cell service in the greater area. WiFi reaches around the house/deck and allows for WiFi Calling: that’s a setting in your phone that enables phone calls & texts beside usual internet access.

You might see an occasional hiker with their dog. If you have a dog, take note. This site is completely fenced in so that your fur baby can safely roam. There is no heating or cooling. The desert can get cold at night. With enough notice, a portable propane heater can be provided with for an additional charge. Hipcampers are kindly asked to park just outside our gate and embark on a picturesque 3/4 mile hike back to the shelter. The flat hike offers scenic views and adds to the adventure of your stay. We just said farewell to our last horse who was 30 years old, so we also offer room for your horses if you are traveling with them. A $25 per horse fee will be charged per day. Bring your own feed, please. The property includes a round 350 square foot straw bale structure with a queen size bed, reading nook (which can also suffice for a second (twin sized) bed for a 3rd person). This A-frame was quite an interesting drive from Santa Fe. I don’t think we would’ve made it without our 4 wheel drive. The cabin was beautiful and Clean. We love the wood burning stove. Overall it was a great stay for a quick evening getaway from it all!

The camper is super cozy and has beautiful views. There is a stovetop, sink, and composting toilet inside the camper – and a great outdoor seating area outside. It was chilly in late October, so Kate set me up with lots of thick blankets and I stayed very warm! Kate is open and welcoming but also gave me my privacy. Great stay!

My stay at the year on the Mesa top totally exceeded my expectations. Kate was there to greet me and show me around and really has put many magical touches on the place. There was everything I need to cook, do dishes, even take an outdoor shower. I came in late fall, and while it was cold at night, the propane heater was toasty. And the bedding was amazing, so I didn’t even need the heater when I slept. The views and the stars and the location are unparalled. I would definitely come back!

Pat was responsive to all our questions before and during our stay, and we appreciated her flexibility. Our concern about a gas smell turned out to be an unlit pilot light on the stove, and that was easily remedied. We also wondered if a silo would be drafty--but it wasn't. We were there in early October, and the view of the surrounding Chama River Valley was beautiful. We loved the Silo and would stay there again!

Beautiful place. I’m going to stay longer the next time. The tree house is big and clean. Mattress are good. The kitchen and Comunity areas are big, clean, and have everything that you need. Kid and dog friendly. You can hike, archery, or just relax. Easy to arrive. Wonderful views.

A great retreat into the mountains. We hiked from the cabin and also drove to and hiked in Valles Caldera. Magical location. Beds were very comfortable. Cabin amenities were good. Just take care driving on the unpaved road up to the cabin. Stay center when possible to avoid ditches on the right.

We loved this intentional and creative spot! The treehouse is roomy and all the beds were comfortable- my kids loved the hanging bunks. It was a fun change from all the tent camping we were doing on our road trip through New Mexico and we appreciated the bathhouse and kitchen spaces. It’s a beautiful and serene area and Ciana was wonderfully welcoming and helpful with getting us settled in. We definitely recommended the treehouse!

We are excited to share our little A-frame cabin in the woods! The cabin is quite rustic ( and quite cute). Think of it like glamping -- outhouse, wood burning stove, dirt roads, and beautiful trees and mountains included. ** To keep the cabin affordable, all guests are responsible for cleaning up the cabin at the end of the stay and making it ready for the next guest. There are no cleaners coming in after you. ** The cabin is a 432 square foot A-frame in a small mountain community, which is surrounded by the Jemez National Forest. There are a few places to hike right from the front door, and many, many trailheads within a 20 minute drive. Fenton Lake is a short drive away, and the San Antonio Hot Springs is a 2.5 mile hike, bike, or ski away right out the front door for the confident adventurer. Located 1.5 hours from Albuquerque and Santa Fe, a few miles off of NM-4 between the town of Jemez Springs and the Valles Caldera National Preserve. No outdoor fires in the fire pit are permitted at this time. WATER HAS BEEN SHUT OFF FOR THE SEASON - YOU MUST BRING YOUR OWN WATER.

Brad and Ciana welcome you to the Santa Fe Treehouse Camp & Wilderness Preserve, managed by The Wilderness Institute. The camp was founded 40 years ago as a summer camp for kids. We continue to offer camps for children and their parents and grandparents (family camps), as well as welcome adults and other groups to enjoy the vast and wild high desert nature up on this ridge. Register for our nature education activities and resources lead by The Wilderness Institute (available for all of our guests). These topics include sustainability, recycling, composting, water conservation, wildfire prevention, outdoor safety, and nature awareness along with the use of our hiking trails. You can also join an archery class, tomahawk throwing, climbing on the mobile climbing wall, Yoga, Qigong, Climbing Into The Heart of the Mother Tree, Star talks and more! There are beautiful views and access to Shaggy Peak, the southernmost tip of the Rocky Mountains and the Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range. Wander our land to enjoy various level hiking trails including a 20 minute hike to a creek and waterfall in the forest (some steep spots and creek is intermittent) or climb up Shaggy Peak (seasoned hikers only please). IMPORTANT: We are up 1.3 miles of dirt road (with 5-7+% grade in a few short stretches) and are not near public transportation so you will need your own vehicle! Be aware that the roads can be snowy, icy or muddy and rutted ( 4-wheel or All-trak recommended in certain times of year). We don’t guarantee the road will be plowed. We generally close for the season due to cold weather around Halloween and reopen just before Memorial Day. This is a non-smoking, no candle facility.
