This was my second time staying here, and it will always be one of my favorite places to stop. Linda is a great communicator & even makes sure to provide curated directions, depending on which way you are coming from. Highly recommend stopping for a night (or two!) The donkeys are also a plus :)

We loved staying on Melinda's land! It was pouring rain from a freak storm and she generously allowed us to use her mudroom and her addition downstairs. Genuinely, she saved our trip. She had great recommendations on things to do in the area and was available and communicative. I could not ask for a better host,

We love camping at Melinda’s. Beautiful views, gracious host and close to hiking trails and Durango. This was our 2nd time there and we’ll be back our next time through Colorado.

I loved my night at Gretchen's property. I was only there for a short time but Gretchen and her pups were very welcoming and the shack was the perfect place to rest for a night before a long drive. Had everything needed for a short stay :)

We had a great quick night at Joe’s place. There were so many amenities like a fully stocked camp kitchen, outhouse, shower set up, and plenty of chairs and tables. We didn’t have to unload much of our own stuff and could just use what was provided. We slept peacefully with the sound of the creek. We wish we could have stayed longer to explore more of the property and creek!
Our dog was a bit anxious at first but Joe came by with a treat to say hello and she immediately was happy and relaxed. She loved playing in the creek.

We had such a great stay at HRT Durango! The amenities were perfect for our family — the kids loved the playground, and the pool was a great way to cool off and relax after a day of exploring. Having a dog park on site was a huge bonus too, making it easy for our pup to get some exercise and enjoy the trip with us.
The campground was well-kept, with clean facilities and plenty of space at the sites to set up comfortably. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, always checking in to make sure we had everything we needed. Overall, it was the perfect family-friendly stop, and we’d definitely recommend it to anyone traveling through Durango.

Weekend Trip to The Art Shack A Tiny Glamping Cabin
The art shack is a great spot. The view is gorgeous and even though the temperature got up to 87 it was nice a cool as the shack is in a small group of pine and popular trees. Even if it had been too hot Gretchen provided a cooler with a fan. There's a swing out front that was lovely to sway on while I watched the sunset. It was beautiful and peaceful. In distance you can hear some cows mooing and an occasional donkey song. Everything you want in a weekend away.

Joe is a great host that provides everything you need to camp. This is a great site for multiple tent campers with multiple level and groomed tent pads. Also suitable for small trailers or vans. Ample group parking. Lots of places to explore in La Plata Canyon. Great stop on our San Juan Adventure!

Linda’s Santa Rita land is a beautiful, quiet, rural setting. Friendly horses and donkeys graze nearby and a small, historic irrigation canal lined with cottonwoods and chimesa runs by the sites. Linda was great to work with during my 7-day stay.

I loved it so much at Joe’s land I wanted to stay much longer! The layout of the kitchen area, campsites, bathroom area, shower and creek made it feel like we had the whole forest to ourselves. It was quiet, peaceful and so so beautiful. The only thing I wasn’t expecting was it was a little walk from the car but nothing we couldn’t handle and still totally worth it. I came here for a retreat and that’s exactly what it was. I wouldn’t have left the site at all if I hadn’t needed more ice. I just loved it here so much! The kitchen has everything you need for very simple cooking but you still need to bring your own cooking utensils. I can’t wait to come back!

So, we had a blast at this quirky little vintage farm just 11 miles outside of Durango, CO, where our campsite was basically the VIP section of the pasture. Picture this: our van was nestled in a cozy corner, fully surrounded by brush, trees, and an irrigation ditch that made us feel like we were on some sort of rustic survival show.
Horses and donkeys became our next-door neighbors—super nosy ones, I might add! We had the entire campsite to ourselves, which made us feel like the kings and queens of our own little compound. We even felt brave enough to leave our camper van wide open at night, just chilling under the protection of our trusty insect netting. Talk about living on the wild side!
But the real midnight party came courtesy of our donkey pals who loved to hang out by the back door during the witching hour, perhaps hoping for some late-night snacks or just an ear rub. By day, we were entertained by the local prairie dog circus, darting around the field like they were training for the Summer Olympics.
And getting to Durango was just a hop, skip, and a jump away! Linda, our host, was a gem—super friendly and accommodating. If you're in the mood for a private, safe spot where "roughing it" means sharing your space with adorable donkeys and feisty prairie dogs, then trust me, this Hip Camp is the place to be!

This is our second trip to Joe’s place and we loved it just as much this time. He provides a magical place with plenty of room to enjoy and explore as a family. The perks include how he provides water and firewood, as well as a composting toilet and outdoor shower.

Cabin was completely set up with all things we needed: tissues, paper towels, soaps, towels, linens. Spotlessly clean. Campground was small but so cute! Checkerboards everywhere to play. Hammock. Ladder golf. Gorgeous pool. And great staff. Loved it!
