I am just getting set up with hipcamp and don’t have much to offer beyond a beautiful camping spot on private property, on the very best of the Taos Mesa.
I am currently very busy finishing the construction of my home, and work out here almost daily. I sometimes have visitors and work exchange staying on the property, but you will have a private and separate area to park and camp. (Please note that that there are no bathroom facilities available, so please come prepared with your own set up). If you are interested in earthen building construction or off-grid-life, I am happy to talk with you about it if time allows.

The Enchanted Circle Campground sits on the Avalon Ranch. It is 161 owned acres surrounded by a state trust lease. We are very proud to have been voted #1 Campground in NM 4 years in a row and ranked Top 5 by Forbes in the country.
We have 8 Sites to choose from. (No large RVs at 4, 7 or 8) Campfires are permitted, and pets are welcome. Free potable water is available as well as a portable toilet.
For cooking, you will have a fire pit, with a cast iron grill. Every site (but 7) has a standing charcoal grill, with tongs, a spatula and a grill brush. A fire extinguisher and a shovel. We hang a hand washing jug at every site for your convenience, with potable water, but do not suggest this for drinking water source.
The property was originally homesteaded in 1893. It was also the first potato farm in NM. It has seven ground-fed springs that run year-round and is officially the Coyote Creeks Headwaters. The springs converge after filling 4 of our ponds in the marshland where the potatoes were grown. A family of 4 lived in the first dwelling built here, not much larger than a shed. Since that time, 2 homes, 1 of which still stands, a barn, a smokehouse, and 4 other outbuildings were constructed. There are old wagons and farm equipment from the late 1800s and early 1900's still strewn about the ranch.
We are home to Huge herds of Elk, mule deer, turkeys, prairie dogs, eagles, black bears, 9 horses, chickens, pigs, goats, our 2 dogs and 4 cats, and the occasional Mountain Lion.
We live here year-round. We love our land and want to share it with others.
I am a Veteran and our intent is to eventually have a Veterans Retreat facility here. Not a retreat itself, but rather a location for all of the retreats, nationwide, to be able to utilize, so they can use the funds they have to do what they do best. You are helping to make that possible.
We do pride ourselves on minimally impacting our land. We strive to keep it clean and as close to nature as we can.
And as always, Veterans, LEOs, and Fire Fighters are always free for one night up to 4 guests. Just book your reservation, and show us your ID during your stay, and we will reimburse you for your last night with us.

Lush high desert river oasis nestled in a fertile valley in the Carson National Forest right between the fiery expanse of Taos and the rolling colorful formations of Abiquiu. Peaceful and private 3 acres right by the river at the edge of a little quaint town called La Madera (145 people, no shops)- just 6 miles to the healing mineral Hot Springs of Ojo Caliente, a place of emergence or rebirth as known to the local Natives.
Right by the river, held by a ridge (that makes for amazing sunset hikes), I have a 16ft Yurt Canvas set up with furnishings (desk, couch, wash stand) and a wooden Queen Bed with down bedding. This site can only be reached by foot across the river via stumps- a car can be parked near by.. approx. 50ft.
I also have a Vintage Camper that can be heated, has a kitchen, electricity and plenty of outdoor furniture with a fire pit and serene mountain views. As well as a monastic and very grounding Ensuite Bedroom, or a simple campsite if you want to bring your own camper or tent. All facilities have access to a guest bathroom inside the main house.
I offer dog sitting while you soak at Ojo, healing modalities that you'll find in the Extras section, and my dear neighbor Jackie takes appointments for massages with homemade essential oils.
+++ 6 miles to Ojo Caliente Hot Springs. There you will find the best restaurant in the area, with locally/organically farmed produce.
The land is naturally and beautifully wild- it is not a manicured campsite. The dirt rd down to the property is best suited for higher clearance vehicles, but is manageable for city cars.
With land by the river comes the mosquitos- June to August only. They are predominantly active during sunrise and sunset; long loose fitting clothes and a repellent work great.
Waterhole, Waterfall and climbing sites near by, as well as Plaza Blanca, Abiquiu, Ghost Ranch and the Taos Gorge are 30 mins drive away.
*No cell service in the greater area. WiFi reaches around the house/deck and allows for WiFi Calling: that’s a setting in your phone that enables phone calls & texts beside usual internet access.

Many biking trails mountain and Road provide for adventurous fun. And don’t forget to look up at our beautiful mountains and landscape surrounding this area.
13 miles to the east of us is the Town of Red River where there are so many different activities taking place throughout the summer, fall, winter, and spring months. Ski lift provides breaths of fresh air throughput the summer months and an abundance of snow throughout the winter months provides some class A skiing.
25 miles to the south of Questa is the Town of Taos which also provides many different activities. The Gorge Bridge just west of Taos provides for some excitement 650 feet above the Rio Grande. Taos Pueblo our nearest indigenous have lived in these mountains and landscape surrounding for longer than a 1000 years. Lots of history here. And the Town of Taos comes with its artsy atmosphere and very delicious restaurants. And last but not least, Taos Ski Valley, impeccable ski/snowboard destination. Join us at Cuesta Verde.

Cuesta Verde is 7 miles from the wild rivers recreation area which provides many different activities which include hiking to the bottom of the canyon where individuals can experience a whole different atmosphere with the mighty Rio Grande running along the bottom. 13 miles to the east of us is the Town of Red River where there are so many different activities taking place throughout the summer, fall, winter, and spring months. 25 miles to the south of Questa is the Town of Taos which also provides many different activities. The Gorge Bridge just west of Taos provides for some excitement 650 feet above the Rio Grande. Taos Pueblo our nearest indigenous have lived in these mountains and landscape surrounding for longer than a 1000 years. Lots of history here. This unique cultural experience in a spectacular setting is a once-in-a-lifetime vacation off the high road to Taos. Grass pasture/orchard farm with private river - in Cundiyo, NM - 24 miles North of Santa Fe, NM on highway 84/285 and highway 503. Cundiyo is a unique, secluded Northern New Mexico farming community. 18-acre farm -classic western freestone stream runs through the property, and we own both sides of river for approx. 1/2 mile. A series of grass pastures/meadows are flood irrigated from the river via traditional Acequias. There are sturdy footbridges over the creek. The yurt was absolutely beautiful! The inside was super cozy and clean. Kate was an excellent host and was super kind and friendly. There was a nice outhouse right outside and also a little heater which helped keep us warm all night. Very scenic views surrounding the location with lots of great hiking and outdoor activities surrounding the area. I would definitely recommend this spot.

We loved staying at the Silo! It served as a great base camp for our adventures throughout the weekend. It’s a short drive from Santa Fe and Taos and surrounded by a ton of outdoor recreation areas. The space itself had everything we needed - fully stocked kitchen, bathroom with a shower, and a comfortable bed. It’s also secluded and offers great solitude surrounded by nature. We briefly crossed paths with Pat who was very friendly and welcoming. We would happily stay again and suggest this stay to everyone!

I can't recommend this site enough. We are still talking about it days later. The host was so welcoming, gave us a little tour, and told us information about the land and surrounding area. This place is an amazing vibe and experience with so many thoughtful details. It's comfortable, fun, there were interesting reading materials, everything to make coffee, a sink space setup, a heater, a spot to charge your phones, even a large mirror. A group of people could stay here comfortably as the space is setup with multiple sleeping areas. I also appreciated the little twinkle lights in the outhouse. There were solar lights around the area to light the way on arrival and we enjoyed the gorgeous dark sky and saw some meteor showers. We (and our pack) had such a comfortable stay here and it's clear the host puts a lot of love and care into it. If I'm ever in the area again, I would stay here in a heartbeat.

A perfect place if you want a central location to explore the different areas of Carson National Forest (CNF) like we did. Allows you an hour drive in any direction to any portion of CNF while providing a beautiful base camp that yields isolation and tranquility in the midst of humbling views in all directions.

Very cute little place. Nice private location, but easy to find. Pat is very kind. There were a few things in the Silo that didn't work upon arrival. Pat brought in the maintenance man, but was unable to fix them during our stay. Thanks for putting in the effort.
The bed is very firm but we found it very comfortable. Well stocked kitchen and linens situation. Porches are really nice for enjoying the views. We would definitely stay here again.

My stay at the year on the Mesa top totally exceeded my expectations. Kate was there to greet me and show me around and really has put many magical touches on the place. There was everything I need to cook, do dishes, even take an outdoor shower. I came in late fall, and while it was cold at night, the propane heater was toasty. And the bedding was amazing, so I didn’t even need the heater when I slept. The views and the stars and the location are unparalled. I would definitely come back!
