The Broken Arrow Joshua Tree Escape

1 site · Lodging1 acre · Dolan Springs, AZ
This isn't your grandparents camper!!  My wife and I moved out to the Arizona Desert in December 2020 from New York City after owning a vintage shop in NYC and working in the event and entertainment industry for 20 years, with the dream of opening up a cool desert retreat and here we are! The Camper is fully restored and functional. Located on a fenced in acre adjacent to our main property. The 20,000 Btu Air conditioner cools it down fast in the summer. We provide electric heaters for the colder months or if requested. Sorry NO PETS allowed. You'll have the 1 acre lot all to yourselves. Enjoy the incredible starry nights under our Joshua Trees. Please keep the main gate CLOSED. Once the cattle gets in they are hard to remove. Located in Dolan Springs Arizona. The Gateway to The Grand Canyon West Rim and Skywalk. Just pass the Grand Canyon is Lake Mead South Cove and the Colorado River. Amazing scenic drives and BLM wilderness. We are located directly off the main road Pierce Ferry, 4WD not necessary! If you are staying for more than 1 night you will receive complimentary RV/Camper maintenance and water refills. You'll only see us if you NEED to see us.  Nestled between Joshua Trees and surrounded by other cactus species.  There is a private outdoor sofa area, a covered deck, propane fire ring in the fall and winter October thru May. The camper is connected to shore power and WiFi. Your water supply is onboard. 35 gallons of fresh water and a 5 gallon hot water tank. Make sure to adjust your shower regimen. The bathroom has plenty of towels, a first aid kit, body wash and everything else except shampoo.   The kitchen has pots and pans, A toaster, Microwave, 3/4 gas Fridge and gas Stove.  The bed is super comfortable memory foam and has down alternative comforters and pillows.  No open wood or charcoal fires please. The desert winds can pick up at any moment and turn open fires into disasters, fast.  This area is great for hiking! We are less then 20 mins from the densest Joshua Tree Forest in the world and 40 mins to the entrance of the Grand Canyon West rim. Dolan Springs Trail system is also very close with plenty of multi use built trails. Hiking, biking horse back riding are all allowed. I ride my MTB thru the trail system and it can be fun if you know what your doing. If your interested in riding a loop or two, please ask. I have developed a fun little ride and the best part is I leave from here! If we plan ahead I can take you on a tour. There is also great MTB trails in Kingman, Az. Glamping near Searchlight guide

Overview

South of Las Vegas near the California-Arizona border, Searchlight was once a mining town, but now attracts visitors with its proximity to Lake Mohave, Cottonwood Cove, and the Colorado River, which provides plenty of options for water recreation, including fishing, boating, and paddling. Nearby, Wee Thump Joshua Tree Wilderness and the Dead Mountains Wilderness Area both provide options for outdoor adventures on land. While camping options in Searchlight are limited to RV parks and overnight RV parking, tent, RV, and primitive camping options can be found in nearby parks, recreation, and wilderness areas.

Where to go

Lake Mead National Recreation Area

Lake Mead National Recreation Area offers 1.5 million acres of mountains, canyons and two lakes, Lake Mohave and Lake Mead. Lake Mohave and Cottonwood Cove is the closest to Laughlin and offers 200 miles of shoreline, and hundreds of secluded coves, along with hiking and biking trails. More than a dozen campgrounds offer some 900 tents and RV sites, along with vehicle, horseback, shoreline, and backcountry camping options.

California and Mojave National Preserve

Just over the California border, north of Needles, the mountains and deserts of Dead Mountains Wilderness offer options for primitive camping, hiking, horseback riding, rock hounding, and hunting. Further east, the Mojave National Preserve offers a vast open land with dramatic terrain of sand dunes, canyons, mountains, and Joshua tree forests, along with three developed campgrounds and plenty of backcountry for dispersed camping.

Arizona

RV parks can be found across the Colorado River on the Arizona side at Bullhead City. Campgrounds can also be found along Lake Mohave at Katherine Landing. At Moabi Regional Park, along the Colorado River at the California and Arizona state line, dispersed and developed campsites are available, along with fishing, hiking, boating, and off-roading. Further south, camping can be found at Lake Havasu State Park, near Lake Havasu City

When to go

Searchlight’s location in the desert of southern Nevada means hot summers with soaring temperatures, making outdoor activities other than water play a bit dangerous. Spring and fall offer the best weather for outdoor recreation, including camping. The best time for largemouth bass is between March and June, striped bass is between April and November, and rainbow trout is between November and March.
