This Basin is Great!
First, the rangers are amazing, kind, and friendly. Great Basin’s high desert sites include high mountain peaks, hiking, old bristlecone pines, wild flowers in the spring, beautiful fall foliage in the fall, and snow.

Over 2 days, we took the ninety minute tour of Lehman Cave, drove to the end of Wheeler Peak Scenic Drive, spent time at both visitor centers, and hiked a few trails. It was great.

This is a nice, quiet national Park. It's not as impressive as Yosemite or Yellowstone, but it's not crowded and there was no entrance fee.

Beautiful park that is taken good care of. The astronomy festival is a great event they hold. I fully recommend if you are there in September.

We will be back to revisit this national park. We were only able to reserve tickets for the 60 minute Lehman Cave tour, we are looking forward to return for the grand Palace tour. The two visitor centers were very nice and well laid out and informative. The staff was very pleasant unavailable to answer questions. Even though it was a holiday weekend, the part was not very crowded overall. Hardly any anybody on some of the trails we hiked which was a surprise and appreciated.

A Hidden Gem
Great Basin National Park is a hidden gem in Eastern Nevada! The hiking and views are spectacular, and Lehman Caves is so worth the visit. We will come back to Great Basin again and again!
Absolutely gorgeous nighttime views.

Couldn’t hike due to rain but the drive up near Mt. Wheeler was very pretty. NP cave tour was outstanding, led by Ranger Nick, who was a wealth of information.

Bristlecone wonders
The highlight of the visit was going to one of the Bristlecone groves and reading up on the history of these amazing trees.
Mixed feelings

With the huge caveat that I didn't visit the caves because the tours were already booked up. I'm glad this is preserved as a great example of the type of landscape it represents. The park facilities are excellent, including the interpretive displays and programs. If somebody has never been to the high country of the Sierra Nevada, then this will be a unique experience. However for me as a Californian who visits the Inyo National Forest a lot, this was simply fine. I'm glad I visited, but I don't know that I'd go back.
