The 5 acre area where our campsites are located is wooded with mature oak, maple, walnut, elm, and white pine trees. We're isolated and surrounded by wild areas and natural farm land but just a 10 minute drive to restaurants, groceries, fuel, and other amenities. The Ann Arbor area is home to a huge array of world class events from the Ark music venue to National Champions Michigan home football games and a whole lot more. Downtown Ann Arbor or Dexter or Chelsea is only a 15 minute car drive. White Lotus Farms, which has a wonderful farm market on Saturdays from 9 - 2 and Wednesdays from 9 - 1, is a 10 minute walk down our dirt road. If you forget to bring something that you need, don't hesitate to ask! We've got a growing number of camping essentials for rent or sale for very reasonable prices that can make your stay even more enjoyable: from bug repellants to camp chairs, potable water in 2.5 - 5 gallon containers, and more. Lake Shawood is a beautiful, natural spring-fed, non-motorized lake that primarily borders the City of Novi's exquisite Lakeshore Park. Lakeshore Park has everything from playgrounds for very young children and older children, to picnic pavillions and a sandy beach, and miles of hiking, running, and biking trails. We fell in love with this property the second we walked behind the old cottage. I love nature and being outdoors, especially hiking and biking. We are still making improvements on the land with a small garden, which you are welcome to enjoy during your stay. Our big-picture vision is to renovate the old cottage and live in it. This property is about 1/3 of an acre and has 1 large old oak tree and garden beds with flowers, herbs, and vegetables. (You can help yourself to any of the fruits or vegetables that are ripe) We are on an old smaller home/cottage-style small residential street. Please keep in mind, that this is a spot for family and friend fun with the awareness of keeping it a sanctuary space for the neighbors as well. Enchanting Lakefront Camping Site Pitch your tent and bring your family and children to our exquisitely beautiful site. The property sits on Shawood Lake, a non-motorized private waterfront site. There’s plenty of room to park your car, pitch a tent, enjoy a campfire, and the beauty of all types of birds (swans, geese, ospreys, and the occasional bald eagle), and animal life. The sunsets in this area are breathtaking. Take a short 30-second walk and enjoy Pavilion Shore Park, a family-oriented park with a playground, swimming, fishing pier, and waterfront seating of Walled Lake. You’ll also find public restrooms which are open until 10 pm through the summer and a restaurant across the street. We also have a portable camping toilet with a nice pop-up tent for privacy. Lakeshore Park is a 5-minute walk, an 11-acre park with volleyball, swimming, bike, and hiking trails (more than 10 miles of mountain biking and multi-purpose trails), horseshoe pits, BBQs, picnic shelters, and play structures.

(With changing daylight hours, this time limit will change throughout the season.) *The property has a lot of wildlife; Deer, Turkey, Rabbits, Coyote, Birds, & Fox. *A small creek runs across the back of the property. *There are many lakes just minutes away, as well as the Huron river for fishing & kayaking. *Public beaches at Lake Chemung & Bishop Lake. *Campfires allowed. Plenty of dead wood around, or you can purchase firewood bundles onsite. *Potable water is available to fill water tanks & containers. It is softened from the house. *Sewer dump station is 5 miles away at Brighton Rec Area (there is a fee). *Pets are allowed (cats & dogs only). They must be leashed at all times (15 ft. max). *Guests that are not part of the Hipcamp Reservation, are not allowed on-site. Guests will need to be met at a location other than our Hipcamp. There are numerous places nearby to gather instead. There are 5 dispensaries in Adrian offering both Recreational and Medical cannabis products for sale. If you would like help or advice about the local market please just ask.  This is a pack it in, pack it out campsite. The closest source of potable water is in the barn or about a ten-minute walk from the site.  This is a perfect social distancing campsite however you are still only a 10-minute drive to the nearest grocery store and 20 minutes from some great swimming lakes, kayaking, and small-town allure in the Irish Hills area.  Ann Arbor is also only a 45-minute drive and has a bounty to offer anyone. We are very familiar with the city and can offer advice or suggestions if you'd like. There is a kayak rental in Tecumseh which is about 15 minutes away where you can do an entire river loop and return to the same place thus requiring only one vehicle.  There are also several close lakes where you can drop your own kayak in and explore. If you’d like some more amenities then Walter Hayes State Park or Lake Hudson State Park are both about a 20-minute drive. We have trails throughout the woods and along with our fields for exploring. We welcome guests to wander and enjoy the property while respecting nature and all the things that live here. The area is alive with animals and creatures of all types. Families of deer and turkey call the farm home and don’t be surprised to hear a coyote howl at night. With natural water sources and different types of topography, we are blessed to have a variety of wildlife at our farm. We keep to ourselves however are more than happy to accommodate reasonable requests and appreciate others getting to enjoy the beauty and serenity the country can offer. We welcome all humans of good character that show love to each other and the Earth.

What an incredibly peaceful and serene place- the fall colors were wonderful-Andi is very lovely & chill and my stay was exactly what I needed to reset. If I have an opportunity to revist, I will not hesitate to do so-highly recommend!

It was the second time we stayed at Julie’s place. The site was very well-maintained, private and beautiful. And there is a farm right next door for some daily activities, especially in the fall! Julie was very flexible and attentive to all my questions. Would definitely recommend this place!

Spending the evening here was the most enjoyable and relaxing experience I’ve had camping 🏕️ I stayed in my little camper van and it was perfect for my vehicle! Woke up to bird song and soft rustling prairie grasses. Couldn’t ask for a better experience. The host was kind and generous and was a perfect fit to this fairytale style camping trip. I plan to make many return trips ☺️ Thank you for having me and sharing your wonderful land 🙏🏼

There are beautiful wooded trails, a nearby cider mill, petting farm, pumpkin patch, and a corn maze to explore during the fall. Tom and Julie are very welcoming, friendly, and accommodating, ensuring a safe and memorable stay.

I'm an experienced camper, due to motorcycling and whitewater kayaking. Have camped in Alaska, Colorado, bottom of Grand Canyon for 6 weeks. . This was my first time using Hipcamp, so I was unsure what to expect. Local state recreation areas were closed, so I gave this a try. . The camping area was exactly as described in words and photos. We had a walk-in tent site, so we parked at a marked parking spot. Then carried our gear another 500' across a tiny stream and up a hill. . It was a 2-night stay with my 4yo daughter on a father-daughter leaf-peeping motorcycle trip out of Detroit. She has also camped many times / places before, and I wanted her to have an adventure close to home. . Tom & Julie's place was perfect for us. It was about 3 miles east of Pinckney, so we had restaurants. The area is rural, and beautiful in the fall. The road to Tom & Julie's was smooth dirt for 2 miles. Then is was maybe 1/8 mile from their mailbox to the campsite. . The campsite was in a small clearing in the woods. Rarely did modern man-made noise intrude on the natural sounds. There was a fire-ring in the clearing, a couple cut logs to sit on. Firewood was available for a small fee. But there was plenty of dead wood around, for kindling or a small fire. So we enjoyed a small fire and did not purchase additional wood. . It was just our luck there was a pumpkin farm nearby. My daughter loved the hay rides, corn maze, etc. . The experience very positive, and I'd use Hipcamp again.

My son and I camped on Emily's property for 5 days, set camp up right next to the beautiful pond where you can fish or go swimming. The property is absolutely beautiful with trails you can walk an explore and watch wildlife everywhere. Would totally recommend great place to relax and unwind. Emily is a great host can't wait ti go back

Perfect spot to have some privacy and feel safe. Camping on grass and some level ground is really nice as opposed to a beet down Public camp ground. I sat and talked with owner Tom, great guy. They call people like this good folk. Real good site too solid ground, lots of geese and cranes went by multiple times. Loved the stay here. We tested out a new air tent here had several nice fires and ate few really good steaks our last night. I almost hate post up here about this little gem in fear of others finding out about this gem. Oh did I mention how Responsive and respectful Julie was in returning information and questions getting answered.

On a 6 week camping road trip and so glad we ventured off the beaten path and found Carls property. Great kind hosts that made sure we had what we needed to make it a special stay. The property is big and beautiful with rolling hills, and an abundance of wildlife. Our site was very clean and secluded and made for a very peaceful night sleep. 100 recommend this to anyone looking for a great safe space to stay. One of our favorite spots so far!

I hammock camped in a beautiful site next to the pond. Compost toilets were nearby and very well taken care of (these are small, self-contained toilets that may not be a great option for larger individuals), with a full shower and bathroom at the retreat center up front. Water pressure in the shower was VERY low, but it was as expected for a small earth-centric retreat center (if you need a shower while the retreat center is in place or find yourself in need of water pressure to blast off a long day, the TA truck stop is 15 minutes away and offers private showers for $17. Tent camping area had a few gorgeous trees protecting it and a fire pit for use. Owners were very welcoming, met me at arrival and provided a tour of the retreat center, map of the property, and information on anything I needed. Excellent property, would absolutely stay again.

Earthwell is a wonderful place to unplug and immerse yourself in nature without feeling completely cut off from humanity. The retreat has charming, well-stocked cabins that felt cozy and homey. Firewood and amenities were thoughtfully provided. Outhouses were well-maintained and managed odor surprisingly well. The property itself is stunning: grass trails wind through meadows, forests, hills, and streams, with a pond perfect for paddling (canoes, kayaks, and a paddleboat are included). Wildlife is abundant- fish, frogs, and turtles in the pond; hawks, bats, and countless birds overhead; and even the distant calls of coyotes and foxes. The diversity of trees- walnut, oak, maple, and pines- made the terrain lush and vibrant. Nights brought a gorgeous starry sky and mornings offered beautiful sunrises. The host, Emily, was warm and welcoming while providing plenty of space. Chelsea, just ten minutes away, makes for an easy day trip or supply run, but you may never want to leave the property. Overall, Earthwell is a fantastic spot for several days of peaceful retreat and a place that captures the best of Pure Michigan.
