A large communal fire pit under the stars Porta-potties (no access to indoor plumbing) Access to water and electric hook-up Excellent area for canoeing or kayaking - bring your own boat! The current on the St. Mary's river is VERY fast so be careful. Paddle upstream first and then use the current to return to the campsite. Regular wildlife sightings: eagles, herons, deer, and more Neebish Island is remote. Access is via a car ferry from Barbeau, MI, and cell reception is limited—plan for a digital detox. You'll need to research and plan around the car ferry schedule, which is limited to a few runs per/day. Welcome to our family’s historic property on remote and beautiful Neebish Island, Michigan—home to freighter views, starry skies, and timeless peace and quiet. Built in 1889 as a light station keeper’s house, this property later served the U.S. Coast Guard until it was decommissioned in the 1970s. Our family acquired it at auction in the 1980s, and we've cherished it ever since. We’re now opening up parts of the land for rustic camping and self-contained RVs to help preserve and maintain this special place. This is not a polished campground—it’s a unique, raw, and beautiful setting where you can truly unplug and connect with nature, water, and history. Located right on the St. Marys River, with unobstructed views of freighters and shipping vessels along the St. Lawrence Seaway, this spot is perfect for anyone who loves maritime history, photography, or just peaceful waterfront camping. Sunsets and sunrises are spectacular, and the beach is sandy and swimmable. Campers can enjoy: A wood-fired sauna right on the river (perfect for a dip afterward!) A large communal fire pit under the stars Porta-potties (no access to indoor plumbing) Access to water and electric hook-up Excellent area for canoeing or kayaking - bring your own boat! The current on the St. Mary's river is VERY fast so be careful. Paddle upstream first and then use the current to return to the campsite. Regular wildlife sightings: eagles, herons, deer, and more Neebish Island is remote. Access is via a car ferry from Barbeau, MI, and cell reception is limited—plan for a digital detox. You'll need to research and plan around the car ferry schedule, which is limited to a few runs per/day. This is a great spot for campers, vanlifers, paddlers, and freighter fans who appreciate quiet, history, and open sky. Shivering Timbers is a lovely, quiet campground. The sites are flat and open but somehow each site is secluded by pine trees. It is just 3 miles from Lower Tequamenon Falls to the West and 7 miles from Paradise to the East. Each site has a campfire 'ring' and Tim sells wood. We would highly recommend this campground.

Tim was our first experience with Hipcamp. If Tim is an example of what we can expect from other hosts (after careful scrutiny), we will be loyal customers. Tim, if you see these comments, please pass on a suspicious event to Hipcamp management----The VERY day we signed up with Hipcamp, our cell phone was bombed for about 10 days with spam calls. Finally, by blocking each call, it suddenly returned to the usual level of junk phone calls. Perhaps Hipcamp was hacked???

The yurts were SO cute! The lights were gorgeous and the bathrooms were way more than I expected (a full private bathroom!). The space heater kept us VERY cozy. Pros Generously sized and clean campsites. Having firewood delivered to the site was a nice treat! Friendly and hard working family and getting to the Falls just couldn't have been easier! Con (singular) Larger porta potties would make it perfect!

I loved the view! Granted it was very windy the day I stayed there so that’s something to consider since your by lake. Very easy to get to the site and overall pretty clean. Had some clutter here and there but not a big deal. My only major critique is one, maybe put stone down on the path to the beach because it had really deep ruts and it was very muddy. I got my car stuck quite a few times. The other is the shower water did not really get warm. Again, not the end of the world but addressing those few things would make the site even better than it already is. Overall I’d give it an 8/10

The state park pales in comparison to the this wonderful campground! Stephanie and her family put love into what they do and it shows. The grounds were so well kept, the atmosphere was relaxing, and Stephanie was warm and welcoming! She shared stories, local treasures to go see, and was a delight to talk about life with. Her kids help around the camp and have the best firewood service I’ve seen!! This is a rustic campground (which we prefer. It keeps the normies away), but they have well kept porta potties and if you need a shower the state park is a few minutes down the road and offers showers for cheap. All around, this is a fantastic family environment that is growing beautifully! We will never go back to the crowded state park after finding this gem!

My family loved camping at Sandra's campsite! Her Yurt tents were wonderful! It was very peaceful being tucked in the woods with gorgeous lights in and around the tent. Sites are far enough apart so you are able to relax on your own. Yurt tents had comfortable beds, lights, coffee makers, heater/fan, and wood delivered daily. Everything was perfect

Site 5 was large, flat and private. Shivering Timbers is a great alternative if you can’t find a spot at the state park. Campground was quiet, firewood was for sale. Tim and Stephanie came around and introduced themself to everyone. Would recommend for your next trip to the UP.

We really enjoy the Tiki Yurts! Have stayed there two years in a row now, and have recommended it to friends. The only unfortunate thing was that both times staying there both my husband and I went to use their showers and bearly have 2 minutes of warm water. I would recommend planning on not using the showers while there.

We had such a lovely time here! We’re Neebish Newbies and loved it. The freighters were a highlight for my fiancé and I loved the beautiful beach all to ourselves. Our dogs were able to be off leash all weekend which was so great! We went for a few brisk swims and enjoyed the dock for sunning. At night, we had wonderful fires with the provided fire pit and benches (nice to not have to bring camp chairs!) I can’t say enough good things about this camp!
