We are across the street from Little Long lake and right up the road from Budd Lake public boat launches. We have deeded lake access to Little Long Lake with use of our paddle boat and kayaks. We can provide parking with a boat, trailer, etc., but will need to be arranged prior to check-in.
There are several restaurants, delivery options, and a grocery store right down the road. There is also a putt putt golf, skiing and snow tubing at Snow Snake, arcade, batting cages, bowling, indoor golf, ax throwing, beaches and Wilson State Park.
If you have side-by-sides, quads, jeeps, snowmobiles, or dirt bikes, there are endless options with groomed trails in the area for you to ride all day long.
Our property has two cabins on property, the Harrison Hideaway cabin and Wanderer's Hideaway that can be rented together for larger groups or rented separately. Please message me if you would like to rent both cabins for you and your guests.

Upon arriving at the property, you will enter through a gate and arrive to the secluded camp area with a beautiful, cozy full log cabin. *Please note the directions begin at the Shell Station (102 South Michigan Avenue, Manton, MI 49663) because the cabin doesn't have a physical address.* We're happy to meet you and guide you right to it!
The cabin has propane lighting, propane refrigerator, an antique stove with burner tops, and a free-standing propane gas stove for crisp evenings. There is a small kitchen area with a sleeping loft above and a sitting/family area at the far end of the cabin. On the backside of the cabin, you'll find a peaceful sitting area with a firepit. When nature calls, there is a well-built outhouse that is available. You won't find a more peaceful, tranquil property to relax in and enjoy the wildlife. Only 1.3 miles into Manton with several bars and restaurants. Within 3 miles you are able to gain access to State property, the Manistee River, and Chase Creek.
From the trails in this area you can go as far as Houghton Lake and Fife Lake. Great area for hunting, fishing, four wheeling, dirt bikes, and hiking. This is a great getaway you don't want to miss out on!

This property was once part of an 80 acre farm. It has now grown into a mature forest with deer, turkey, squirrels, chipmunks, many types of songbirds and most recently a family of sandhill cranes. Our most recent improvement is an air conditioner in the Crow's Nest. Sheila grew up just across the road and spent many hours riding her horse and writing poetry on the property.
No discharge of firearms is allowed on this property.
As a retired artist, we love to entertain creative peaceful people and many think of our place as a quiet sanctuary that encourages creativity. We provide games, both outdoor and indoor, a screen house, hammock, nature trails and a new camp store with local items and snacks. There is an Amish community close by and a tour map is provided. We are also close to the largest canopy walk in the US at Whiting Forest and Dow Gardens. Only 25 minutes away. There is a small water park in the closest town with a beach. Locally there is tubing and canoeing at the Cedar River in Gladwin and kayaking at Pinconning Park on Saginaw Bay. Guests can explore many antique shops as well as Pinconna and Northwoods Outlet store. Many of our campers never leave the property but choose to relax and watch the life of the forest.

Also nearby is the "Saganing Eagles Landing Casino" in Standish. We have resided here for over 30 years and can assist you in many ways to get the most out of your visit.

*Access to the cabin involves a 1/4 mile hike on a mowed path through the meadow.* Absolutely no motor vehicles are allowed on the path. The path is marked by solar lights at night. A 4-wheeled cart is provided to effortlessly get your belongings back and forth.
PRIMITIVE EXPERIENCE
Enjoy a rustic, off-grid Northern Michigan camping experience, all in the comfort of a tastefully decorated cabin. This cabin DOES NOT have electricity, running water, or traditional plumbing.
OUTSIDE
This 640SF cabin boasts two porches. The front porch overlooks the meadow and is perfect for sunsets and coffee. This porch includes a hand pump for fresh water in the warm months. The back porch faces the woods and is a great place to cook on the propane grill while enjoying a bonfire.
KITCHEN
The kitchen is conveniently located off the back porch and is stocked with essentials to prep your meals, and boasts a dry sink with a 5 gallon water dispenser for washing dishes and washing up. We do NOT stock food essentials or keep food in the cabin; please bring your own, along with a cooler. The table has ample seating for enjoying meals, cards, and board games. One-of-a-kind animal mounts and rustic decorations adorn the whole downstairs.
LIVING ROOM
The living room is perfectly situated at the front of the cabin, overlooking the meadow. The propane fireplace will warm the entire cabin- even the loft! Sit on the leather couch and relax as you overlook the meadow.
THE LOFT
Head up the wood ladder to the open loft. You will find a cozy queen bed on one side, and 3 twin beds on the other. Bedding is included! The loft is a shared space, but does provide some privacy when the curtain divider is drawn. We've included a hand crank Victrola with records for those days when you miss Spotify.
THE OUTHOUSE
The outhouse is conveniently located several paces away from the cabin and bonfire. It has a locking door with window and curtain for privacy. A bucket of wood shavings is provided to cover your waste and keep the smell down.

There is a bonfire pit between the two cabins as well.
There are plenty of fallen trees for you to use as firewood. A phone number/address will also be provided for wood pickup or delivery if you’d prefer to take that route.
Guests also may enjoy the “LiL ATV Trail” that is cut onto the property.

If you have side-by-sides, quads, jeeps, snowmobiles, or dirt bikes, there are endless options with groomed trails in the area for you to ride all day long.
Our property has two cabins on property, the Harrison Hideaway cabin and Wanderer's Hideaway that can be rented together for larger groups or rented separately. Please message me if you would like to rent both cabins for you and your guests.

The cabin has propane lighting, propane refrigerator, an antique stove with burner tops, and a free-standing propane gas stove for crisp evenings. There is a small kitchen area with a sleeping loft above and a sitting/family area at the far end of the cabin. On the backside of the cabin, you'll find a peaceful sitting area with a firepit. When nature calls, there is a well-built outhouse that is available. You won't find a more peaceful, tranquil property to relax in and enjoy the wildlife. Only 1.3 miles into Manton with several bars and restaurants. Within 3 miles you are able to gain access to State property, the Manistee River, and Chase Creek.
From the trails in this area you can go as far as Houghton Lake and Fife Lake. Great area for hunting, fishing, four wheeling, dirt bikes, and hiking. This is a great getaway you don't want to miss out on!

This property was once part of an 80 acre farm. It has now grown into a mature forest with deer, turkey, squirrels, chipmunks, many types of songbirds and most recently a family of sandhill cranes. Our most recent improvement is an air conditioner in the Crow's Nest. Sheila grew up just across the road and spent many hours riding her horse and writing poetry on the property.
No discharge of firearms is allowed on this property.
As a retired artist, we love to entertain creative peaceful people and many think of our place as a quiet sanctuary that encourages creativity. We provide games, both outdoor and indoor, a screen house, hammock, nature trails and a new camp store with local items and snacks. There is an Amish community close by and a tour map is provided. We are also close to the largest canopy walk in the US at Whiting Forest and Dow Gardens. Only 25 minutes away. There is a small water park in the closest town with a beach. Locally there is tubing and canoeing at the Cedar River in Gladwin and kayaking at Pinconning Park on Saginaw Bay. Guests can explore many antique shops as well as Pinconna and Northwoods Outlet store. Many of our campers never leave the property but choose to relax and watch the life of the forest.

*Access to the cabin involves a 1/4 mile hike on a mowed path through the meadow.* Absolutely no motor vehicles are allowed on the path. The path is marked by solar lights at night. A 4-wheeled cart is provided to effortlessly get your belongings back and forth.
PRIMITIVE EXPERIENCE
Enjoy a rustic, off-grid Northern Michigan camping experience, all in the comfort of a tastefully decorated cabin. This cabin DOES NOT have electricity, running water, or traditional plumbing.
OUTSIDE
This 640SF cabin boasts two porches. The front porch overlooks the meadow and is perfect for sunsets and coffee. This porch includes a hand pump for fresh water in the warm months. The back porch faces the woods and is a great place to cook on the propane grill while enjoying a bonfire.
KITCHEN
The kitchen is conveniently located off the back porch and is stocked with essentials to prep your meals, and boasts a dry sink with a 5 gallon water dispenser for washing dishes and washing up. We do NOT stock food essentials or keep food in the cabin; please bring your own, along with a cooler. The table has ample seating for enjoying meals, cards, and board games. One-of-a-kind animal mounts and rustic decorations adorn the whole downstairs.
LIVING ROOM
The living room is perfectly situated at the front of the cabin, overlooking the meadow. The propane fireplace will warm the entire cabin- even the loft! Sit on the leather couch and relax as you overlook the meadow.
THE LOFT
Head up the wood ladder to the open loft. You will find a cozy queen bed on one side, and 3 twin beds on the other. Bedding is included! The loft is a shared space, but does provide some privacy when the curtain divider is drawn. We've included a hand crank Victrola with records for those days when you miss Spotify.
THE OUTHOUSE
The outhouse is conveniently located several paces away from the cabin and bonfire. It has a locking door with window and curtain for privacy. A bucket of wood shavings is provided to cover your waste and keep the smell down.

There is an outhouse just down the trail behind the cabins and the shared screened in pavilion. There is a charcoal grill (bring your own charcoal). There is a bonfire pit between the two cabins as well.
There are plenty of fallen trees for you to use as firewood. A phone number/address will also be provided for wood pickup or delivery if you’d prefer to take that route.
Guests also may enjoy the “LiL ATV Trail” that is cut onto the property.

This 20-acre property is surrounded by public land and is a short hike to Rapid River, which is nestled in a valley of giant cedars and white pines. The property is secluded on a deadend two-track less than two miles from US-131 between Kalkaska and Mancelona. Torch Lake is only a 20-minute drive and Traverse City is about 50 minutes away.
There is a clean porta-potty and water can be provided on request. Also, a 4-person tent can be provided at an additional cost. I was impressed with all the extra things in the cabin like a spatula which was very handy for breakfast when we made pancakes. I would 100% go back. Beautiful experience.

This cozy cabin in the woods was exactly the peaceful getaway we needed. The starry nights, crackling campfires, and quiet walks through the forest with our dog made the stay unforgettable. The cabin itself was warm, welcoming, and full of thoughtful touches, especially the welcoming basket waiting for us. The propane gas fireplace kept us perfectly comfortable on the cold nights, and the entire space felt like a true retreat.
We loved having time to relax, recharge, and enjoy nature together. This stay was a much-needed mental health reset, and we will definitely be back. Highly recommend!

We loved camping at Rick’s! The cabin was well stocked with spices, flashlights, cozy and nice bedding. Rick resupied firewood for us and pointed out the trails to explore. The view from the cabin porch was beautiful with lots of colorful trees. The firepit was huge and we used the grates to cook over the fire. We’re coming back next summer!

The cabin is so cozy and it is clear that a lot of thought has been put into this stay (extra lights, lighters, charcoal for the grill, multiple chairs, condiments, lots of wood etc.). Rick's place was such a gift. There were so many signs of thoughtfulness and insight into his prepared mind. Not only was the cabin equipped w/ basics but he also offers extras such as raincoats, hammocks, and what not. The property is well cared for, he has beautifully growing plants on the front porch The outhouse was actually nice, well stocked, and it was clean! The cabin too, was very clean, cleanest tiny cabin in woods I've seen yet! I like how he designed and decorated the cabin, it felt much bigger than it was. The framed bear art was so enjoyable to look at, each time I'd find something I hadn't before. It was like a mix between a Hieronymus Bosch piece and a teddy bears picnic! I highly recommend, he's a really nice easy going guy, pleasant to communicate with.

Carole and Art are two of the sweetest, most accommodating hosts you'll ever hope to meet! The amount of care and effort they put into making you feel comfortable is second to none. Like I told them, they thought of everything! Even the doggos and kiddos are made to feel welcome. There were even games for children of all ages to play - outdoors and in. For me, it was a solo trip. Carole and Art's property is so quiet and relaxing and was just what the Mental Health Professional ordered! I highly recommend the Arcala Bunkhouse for individuals, couples, groups, and families alike. The property has hills all around and is adjacent to a tree farm. Everything is so beautiful! I took so many pictures of the landscape and wildlife. I shared the atypical ones in order to not repeat the pictures that were already posted.
