This past summer my college roommate and I spent a few days hammock camping on Rock Island. We backpacked to the far side of the island and enjoyed viewing the Perseid meteor shower along with the bright and beautiful Milky Way. I highly recommend this Park!

Cabin on lake with no public access. Camper/RV with large deck on same lake approximately 1200 feet away. Another camper in grassy clearing within the forest, approximately 600 feet away from lake. Owner's home is out of sight and sound 1/4 mile away.  Pasture and forest property borders 2500 feet of private lake front.  Property also borders the Hiawatha National Forest.  Great pike fishing on shallow lake with access to 10' jon boats with oars and single seat kayaks.  Life vests available. Cabin is one open room with bunk beds that sleep 4 plus a full size futon. Cooking and dish water is provided by hanging 7 gallon jug over kitchen sinks. No indoor toilets, outhouse available at all three sites. Gas cooking stove and wood burning stove/oven for heat and cooking. Battery powered electric lights. Wood burning interior stove and sauna at cabin. Campers have no interior heat. Water, box of firewood, pots and pans, and utensils provided. Bring food, ice, and drinking water. Bring charcoal and lighter fluid if you want to use small grills outside. Dogs are welcome just not on beds or futon :)

All sites have their own private entrances, you can’t see any sites or buildings, and they are very spaced-out.

My location is situated PERFECTLY central to the major UP attractions Pictured Rocks, Tahquamenon Falls and Kitchittikippi. And there’s even a convenience store within walking distance!

Showers are also available in town (Pickelmans gas station).

The Log Cabin Retreat

The Log Cabin Retreat is centrally located just outside the 45 miles of Pictured Rocks National Shoreline, a short drive from Miners Castle, The Log Slide, multiple water falls, and countless atv trails.  Learn more about this land:Come experience “up north” in all of its rugged glory. Nestled among trails in the Hiawatha region of Munising, MI (next to Haywire Trail #8), The Log Cabin Retreat is also situated in very close proximity to the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. 

This is the PERFECT location with quick access to everything the area has to offer. Enjoy snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice climbing and ice fishing in the winter; hiking, ATVing, mountain biking, swimming, beaching, fishing and kayaking/canoeing in the summer. There is plenty to do in the area and the Log Cabin Crew is ALWAYS happy to help you out!

The Log Cabin Retreat is surrounded by 20 acres of private, wooded property. Luxuriate in solitude or enjoy Munising – your choice! The conveniences of town are just a short (10 minute) drive away. The famous Bear Trap Inn (restaurant and bar) is just 1/4 of a mile down the road: Our guests have always loved this place. Kewadin Casino in Christmas, MI is about a 20 minutes’ drive. 

The cabin is quaint enough for one family, yet accommodating enough to comfortably host larger parties of up to 16. There are four bedrooms and two bathrooms on the basement and main floor levels, plus a loft.

Park your snowmobile trailers and trucks in the large driveway – there's tons of space to pull in and pull out (no need to back up). Stoke up the fire and relax. Imbibe at the bar. Take in forest and wildlife views from the comfort of the deck. Cook up a feast on the gas grill. Roast marshmallows and enjoy each other's company around the fire.

The cabin is yours to enjoy during your stay. There’s plenty of room here to do what you like. Make memories; do things your way. The kitchen is fully stocked. The living room is plush. The basement is fully furnished; laid-back. All bedding, bath towels and toiletries are included.

This property is heavily wooded with pine and maple trees. Wild raspberry and blueberries are found to be plentiful in season. Formerly wooded by lumberjacks during the early 1900’s, this area is rich with history and sights to see. Located between Seney National Wildlife Refugee and Grand Mairas on Lake Superior.

The lake down the county road with boat dock is gorgeous and full of fish

The sites are not to far back off the road but far enough not to be bothered.
