Your host property is 13 acres between the Yellow Dog River, and Bear Lake, with frontage on both. The Yellow Dog River is a legendary trout stream, and many artists have found that the river satisfies their need for the wild. There are two cabin sites available, One overlooking Bear Lake with sunset views, and the other a cabin that was moved to the property in 1999 to preserve it.
Both sites share amenities such as the outhouse, communal fire pit and water, but the cabins are not in close proximity so everyone has their privacy. They are both rustic cabins having no running water, or electricity. A futon with mattress cover is provided in each cabin along with a table and chairs. See the individual site descriptions for more details.
We are 20 miles (app) north of Marquette, which is my home town. It is a destination for bikers, skiiers, and outdoor rec folk! There are so many things to see and do in Marquette, so make sure to plan enough time to check out the town! Also, just six miles to our north is historic Big Bay. A lumber town back in the day, it is full of history. Check out the Thunder Bay Inn, where parts of Anatomy of a Murder, starring Jimmy Stewart and Lee Remick were filmed. Don't miss going to the Lumberjack to see where the actual murder took place, either! You will find good eats and perhaps even some live music at either establishment. You'll also find everything you need in the way of groceries, and gas at Cram's General Store, where there's also a laundromat. Burns landing just north of the marina has the historic Burns family home renovated in a park setting, and a public beach access to mighty Lake Superior. This park has picnic tables and grills, and even a handicap accessible outhouse and trail to the lake.
Yellow Dog falls is a short drive on Co. Road 510, and on the way be sure to climb Thomas Rock overlook. There are new bike trails if you're into that as well! Stay awhile. You'll be glad you did!
We strive to offer peace and serenity to our guests, and love to share these woods with those needing tranquility and respite from a busy world. In this sensitive environmental area, we have only two sites to keep traffic down, enhance our visitors experience, and to protect the wildlife here.

Our main house is further up the driveway past the tiny home, and we ask that guests remain in the general vicinity of the Yooperlite House and avoid venturing up to our home.
There is plenty of outdoor space on the property for guests to enjoy, including fire pits and picnic tables adjacent to the tiny home. The two homes occupy separate areas to ensure privacy during your stay.

It’s 1/2 a mile from a dirt road which is a portion of the North Country Trail, sitting in the rugged Michigamme Highlands, close to Silver Lake and Dead River Basins.

Gotta love the Copper Cabin in winter! Cozy heat with wood stove, tons of fresh snow & sauna to boot! Our 5th stay ( or is it 6?). Darryl & Linda are great hosts - excellent communication, rapid response & friendly comments. We got to meet Linda for the first time, finally & just as nice in person! Looking forward to out next trip up here!

Quiet, great location. Ryan was was friendly and kept up on anything that I needed for camp. Spacious camp, nice bed, power was provided no problems, plenty of firewood, water, ECT. Weekend Trip to The Keweenaw Outpost
We had a wonderful stay at Ryan’s glamping site! The tent was spacious and felt cozy, with the lighting providing ambiance and even throw pillows and blankets for an extra touch of warmth. We enjoyed falling asleep to the sound of rain falling on the tent, while remaining dry inside. The site was easy to find and we were greeted upon arrival. It was the perfect place to stay while we spent the weekend immersed in nature, exploring the Keweenaw Peninsula. We are already planning to go back next year!

My husband and I are expecting our first baby in December and this was the perfect spot to get away and find stillness within all the excitement 🥲 we love to camp and backpack but being pregnant this was the perfect in between of comfort and rustic backcountry vibes! We loved the sense of adventure and truly felt at home in this space. It was really fun to learn about the off grid / sustainable practices that make this place unique and fun to explore. This off grid cabin/land had such nourishing ambiance and character there was always something unique to notice within all the tiny details Linda and Darryl put into it or from others that were left behind. We enjoying slow mornings reading journal entries from past visits over slow brewed coffee, walking the land, fishing in the river and playing games over a home cooked meal! The cabin was located perfectly on the peninsula we were able to explore copper harbor and close enough to houghton hancock if we needed anything. This is definitely a trip we will always remember and can’t wait to make it back with our little guy sooner than later! Many continued blessings to everyone who gets to experience this GEM in Gods Land 🌲

We had a great stay at the Gypsy Wind cabin. Sue is a fantastic host and is quick to respond to all questions and needs. The cabin is in a nice setting, very quiet, super close to the river and lake. We used Sue’s canoe and caught a bunch of nice fish in the lake. Can’t wait to return.

We would definitely stay here again! The camper was great. It was well stocked with everything you need for a stay and the beds were comfortable (they had a soft memory foam topper on the mattress that I loved). Having a recliner was also great as well. The camper had A/C for hot days and space heaters for cool nights. It had a coffee maker, blender, fridge, freezer (that all worked well). We also had warm water for a comfortable shower. It was our first time staying in a camper and Alyssa was very responsive/helpful with any questions.
The area seemed really safe and the location is great to many different destinations. It is located just off a major road (convenient) but not many cars drive by (pretty quiet). It's about 30 minutes to the east end of the Porkies, 45 minutes to Agate Beach, and an hour to Houghton. There are good and inexpensive food options locally on Ontonagon that stay open late after a day of adventure.
Due to previous campers not cleaning up well, they now charge a modest cleaning fee but it was nice to just do and light clean and go upon checkout instead of a deep clean.
If you are looking for great option in the Ontonogan region, this is the place.

We loved the view from the Sunset Cabin! Sue made sure we felt right at home in every sense. We forgot bedding and she lent us blankets to make sure we stayed warm. We swam in the river and felt so refreshed by the cold water. A highlight was seeing a river otter when we went kayaking on the lake!! Access to the fire pit, outhouse, and gear made everything feel very easy. The dishes area made clean-up a breeze after meals!

Super-cute and simple cabin on a lovely property with beautiful river and lake access. Cozy and quiet, but came with great recommendations and even kayak use! Easy to find, great location close to Big Bay and not that far from Marquette, lots to do around outside in the area. Sue is a fantastic host and has a great system for taking care of guests. I'd totally stay here again.
