Several hiking trails and locations to camp. There are multiple fire rings out back and plenty of fallen wood to burn or you can purchase seasoned split wood bundles on site. Suggested Local Attractions: The property borders a public golf course, downtown Lake Orion or Oxford are less than 1.5 miles as is public access to All-Sports Lake Orion(the lake) as well as others in the area. Dozens of miles of hiking/mountain biking trails. Bald Mountain State Park and Addison Oaks trailheads 2 and 3 miles respectively. Disc Golf courses. Public beaches, paved trails, etc. Or you can just hang out and watch the various wildlife that frequent the property. At least a dozen breweries, distilleries, restaurants a couple miles away, easily able to walk/bike/drive.

ABOUT THE FARM
We have a working, organic farm with a lot of animals, however, we also do crops as well. This particular farm is 138 acres with 8 acres of woods. We have working dogs, sheep, cattle, horses, a couple goatsWe have some super great animals. Most of which are very friendly.
You never know what will be available to see on the farm when you visit. We are expecting a foal (baby horse) this summer (2021)
and are already planning for another foal next summer as well. We often have puppies as well and sometimes we have to bottle feed lambs. There's never a dull moment.
Our farm is unique in the way of having a very positive VIBE to it. The energy is awesome! It's really a space of tranquility and healing if you allow yourself to go there.
After hosting with air bnb for a little over a year now, we decided to give this a try as well. We love hosting people and having them come to the farm and enjoy our way of life. It also helps to have a supplemental income as having and running a small family farm isn't very sustainable. Typically there's off the farm jobs to help pay for the farm life. It's a crazy equation. Small family farms are far and few between. Please support your local farmer if possible! It is greatly appreciated!

Beautiful camping experience on our little slice of heaven. Lake Shawood is a beautiful, natural spring-fed, non-motorized lake that primarily borders the City of Novi's exquisite Lakeshore Park. Lakeshore Park has everything from playgrounds for very young children and older children, to picnic pavillions and a sandy beach, and miles of hiking, running, and biking trails.
We fell in love with this property the second we walked behind the old cottage.
I love nature and being outdoors, especially hiking and biking. We are still making improvements on the land with a small garden, which you are welcome to enjoy during your stay. Our big-picture vision is to renovate the old cottage and live in it.
This property is about 1/3 of an acre and has 1 large old oak tree and garden beds with flowers, herbs, and vegetables. (You can help yourself to any of the fruits or vegetables that are ripe)
We are on an old smaller home/cottage-style small residential street. Please keep in mind, that this is a spot for family and friend fun with the awareness of keeping it a sanctuary space for the neighbors as well.
Enchanting Lakefront Camping Site
Pitch your tent and bring your family and children to our exquisitely beautiful site. The property sits on Shawood Lake, a non-motorized private waterfront site. There’s plenty of room to park your car, pitch a tent, enjoy a campfire, and the beauty of all types of birds (swans, geese, ospreys, and the occasional bald eagle), and animal life. The sunsets in this area are breathtaking.
Take a short 30-second walk and enjoy Pavilion Shore Park, a family-oriented park with a playground, swimming, fishing pier, and waterfront seating of Walled Lake. You’ll also find public restrooms which are open until 10 pm through the summer and a restaurant across the street.
We also have a portable camping toilet with a nice pop-up tent for privacy.
Lakeshore Park is a 5-minute walk, an 11-acre park with volleyball, swimming, bike, and hiking trails (more than 10 miles of mountain biking and multi-purpose trails), horseshoe pits, BBQs, picnic shelters, and play structures.

10/12/25 The camping season in Michigan is coming to a close. We'll be open through October with full closure starting Nov. 1 through mid-March 2026. If the weather is kind, 2 sites will open, followed by the other 2 beginning May 1. Glad to be able to offer our slice of heaven to you again next year! Thank you to all who chose to stay this year.
***For the preservation of our property, our septic system, the privacy of other campers, all arrivals MUST be prior to dark setting in. If you can't see the signs & posts, you can damage our property AND your vehicle/equipment. Please see the site rules for current max time for check-in. (With changing daylight hours, this time limit will change throughout the season.)
*The property has a lot of wildlife; Deer, Turkey, Rabbits, Coyote, Birds, & Fox.
*A small creek runs across the back of the property.
*There are many lakes just minutes away, as well as the Huron river for fishing & kayaking.
*Public beaches at Lake Chemung & Bishop Lake.
*Campfires allowed. Plenty of dead wood around, or you can purchase firewood bundles onsite.
*Potable water is available to fill water tanks & containers. It is softened from the house.
*Sewer dump station is 5 miles away at Brighton Rec Area (there is a fee).
*Pets are allowed (cats & dogs only). They must be leashed at all times (15 ft. max).
*Guests that are not part of the Hipcamp Reservation, are not allowed on-site. Guests will need to be met at a location other than our Hipcamp. There are numerous places nearby to gather instead. This assures maximum privacy for all sites & for our family.

*Howell Balloon fest in June.
*Howell Melon fest in August.
*Captain Frosty's Ice Cream is located approximately 2–3 miles away. They offer a variety of ice cream deliciousness, slushies, shakes, and malts.

composting toilet. (Usually changed every 3rd guest). Ac is hooked to an extension cord . We provide a Battery pump shower where you have to fill the bag with water & foot pump sink like used at festivals. The shack isn’t perfectly air tight so you might encounter a few bugs however with Chickens around they are natural bug exterminators. Ceiling height it just at 6 ft meaning those taller than that need to Duck under beams. Please beware.

Lake can only be viewed from the upstairs of shack due to tall reeds or by way of walking path which is still under construction partially handmade from scrap lumber . It’s about 2/3 complete with newly built dock, sections (see pics). The path is usually partially underwater until mid May so please check if you plan to kayak you will use at your own risk. *:It’s too mucky to swim right off shore but you can Kayak out to the swimming area. Kayak use is allowed as long as waiver is signed. Closed toed/water shoes recommended . Potential for 4 guests which is tight, or more if part of your crew wanted to set up a tent.
*Fall/winter info:
Use of our guest bathroom is permitted during colder months -just ask!. Keep in mind, The only heat will be a 1500 watt heater.

ABOUT THE FARM
We have a working, organic farm with a lot of animals, however, we also do crops as well. This particular farm is 138 acres with 8 acres of woods. We have working dogs, sheep, cattle, horses, a couple goatsWe have some super great animals. Most of which are very friendly.
You never know what will be available to see on the farm when you visit. We are expecting a foal (baby horse) this summer (2021)
and are already planning for another foal next summer as well. We often have puppies as well and sometimes we have to bottle feed lambs. There's never a dull moment.
Our farm is unique in the way of having a very positive VIBE to it. The energy is awesome! It's really a space of tranquility and healing if you allow yourself to go there.
After hosting with air bnb for a little over a year now, we decided to give this a try as well. We love hosting people and having them come to the farm and enjoy our way of life. It also helps to have a supplemental income as having and running a small family farm isn't very sustainable. Typically there's off the farm jobs to help pay for the farm life. It's a crazy equation. Small family farms are far and few between. Please support your local farmer if possible! It is greatly appreciated!

Beautiful camping experience on our little slice of heaven. Lake Shawood is a beautiful, natural spring-fed, non-motorized lake that primarily borders the City of Novi's exquisite Lakeshore Park. Lakeshore Park has everything from playgrounds for very young children and older children, to picnic pavillions and a sandy beach, and miles of hiking, running, and biking trails.
We fell in love with this property the second we walked behind the old cottage.
I love nature and being outdoors, especially hiking and biking. We are still making improvements on the land with a small garden, which you are welcome to enjoy during your stay. Our big-picture vision is to renovate the old cottage and live in it.
This property is about 1/3 of an acre and has 1 large old oak tree and garden beds with flowers, herbs, and vegetables. (You can help yourself to any of the fruits or vegetables that are ripe)
We are on an old smaller home/cottage-style small residential street. Please keep in mind, that this is a spot for family and friend fun with the awareness of keeping it a sanctuary space for the neighbors as well.
Enchanting Lakefront Camping Site
Pitch your tent and bring your family and children to our exquisitely beautiful site. The property sits on Shawood Lake, a non-motorized private waterfront site. There’s plenty of room to park your car, pitch a tent, enjoy a campfire, and the beauty of all types of birds (swans, geese, ospreys, and the occasional bald eagle), and animal life. The sunsets in this area are breathtaking.
Take a short 30-second walk and enjoy Pavilion Shore Park, a family-oriented park with a playground, swimming, fishing pier, and waterfront seating of Walled Lake. You’ll also find public restrooms which are open until 10 pm through the summer and a restaurant across the street.
We also have a portable camping toilet with a nice pop-up tent for privacy.
Lakeshore Park is a 5-minute walk, an 11-acre park with volleyball, swimming, bike, and hiking trails (more than 10 miles of mountain biking and multi-purpose trails), horseshoe pits, BBQs, picnic shelters, and play structures.

The path is usually partially underwater until mid May so please check if you plan to kayak you will use at your own risk. *:It’s too mucky to swim right off shore but you can Kayak out to the swimming area. Kayak use is allowed as long as waiver is signed. Closed toed/water shoes recommended . Potential for 4 guests which is tight, or more if part of your crew wanted to set up a tent.

The host, Mike, was very kind. I went winter camping, and it was risky to drive my car to the site, so he generously helped transport my camping gear with his mini truck. The forest was peaceful and quiet, and you can even see deer. I will definitely be back! It’s a safe place as well.

Julie was a fantastic host! She checked in after our first night to see if we had everything we needed. We spent a weekend here as part of a greater road trip cross-country and we had a swell time. The views of the lake are gorgeous and the loft sleeping accommodations were super cozy!

This little patch of heaven is just what anyone needs. Tucked away between two busy towns you feel like you're actually up north. Secluded campsites with all your basic needs (fire pit, chairs, potable water) fire wood bundled for a small fee and a privacy house that includes lanterns and toiletries. The hosts are wonderful people. I had a great conversation with Cori. They have excellent communication as Micheal answered all my questions and provided a map of the area I'd be setting up at. The property has many little trails to venture around during the day. The sites were clean and well kept. A little early morning traffic sounds are unavoidable even a mile away from the main roads but pop in your ear plugs and "poof" your back up north amongst the forest for the a relaxing morning. At night, I was serenaded by a local owl and that was magical. Quiet, secluded and for anyone wanting a quick getaway from the metro area this is the place to visit. Quiet seclusion and yet a 5 minute drive to two different small towns for food or drink. You pair these amenities with the graciousness of the hosts plus the low rental cost and you'll be hooked on becoming a regular here. Thank you, Michael and Cori for offering us all to your property. I can't wait to book here again!

Our goal was to find a place we could wake up in the woods, and this was the spot! Nice having coffee on the deck overlooking the property and ending the day w a fire. We were pretty self-sufficient, but my impression was that if we needed something we could just message to ask. I would have liked to be more social w. our hosts but just didn’t have the energy; the whole point of us being there was for a much needed respite. Also we were there during the work week and they were busy going about their business. We stayed in the treehouse and didn’t need the heat even, it is pretty well insulated which also cuts the train noise others commented on. Super cute goat! Very personable turkey! Definitely the woods go back a fair ways for exploring. We found good nearby hikes too; the big loop around the lake at Metamora-Hadley was a really good route.

Fantastic experience all around! Jiya was there to greet me when I arrived and showed me around the property. The Cricket and Thicket campsites are nearly identical, with Cricket being slightly closer to your car and Thicket being slightly closer to the bathhouse. Both are lovely little plots in a gorgeous setting. The property is lush, with flowers, fruit trees, and whimsical touches. The neighborhood is an inspiring example of urban renewal -- you'll drive (or walk!) by farms, gardens, playgrounds, and parks -- a little oasis in the midst of a big city. I saw children playing in the streets and even deer strolling along at dusk. In other words, I felt safe leaving my tent here as I explored Detroit. And this was a great home base for said exploring! An easy drive to the Henry Ford museum and to downtown. Would definitely stay here again if I'm ever in the area. A+

Have camped in Alaska, Colorado, bottom of Grand Canyon for 6 weeks.

This was my first time using Hipcamp, so I was unsure what to expect.
Local state recreation areas were closed, so I gave this a try.

The camping area was exactly as described in words and photos.
We had a walk-in tent site, so we parked at a marked parking spot.
Then carried our gear another 500' across a tiny stream and up a hill.

It was a 2-night stay with my 4yo daughter on a father-daughter leaf-peeping motorcycle trip out of Detroit. She has also camped many times / places before, and I wanted her to have an adventure close to home.

Tom & Julie's place was perfect for us.
It was about 3 miles east of Pinckney, so we had restaurants.
The area is rural, and beautiful in the fall.
The road to Tom & Julie's was smooth dirt for 2 miles.
Then is was maybe 1/8 mile from their mailbox to the campsite.

The campsite was in a small clearing in the woods.
Rarely did modern man-made noise intrude on the natural sounds.
There was a fire-ring in the clearing, a couple cut logs to sit on.
Firewood was available for a small fee.
But there was plenty of dead wood around, for kindling or a small fire.
So we enjoyed a small fire and did not purchase additional wood.

It was just our luck there was a pumpkin farm nearby.
My daughter loved the hay rides, corn maze, etc.

The experience very positive, and I'd use Hipcamp again.

I really enjoyed my stay at Julie’s B52 “Love Shack.” My dog and I felt right at home. Julie provided everything we could need. The upstairs was so relaxing and peaceful. The outside grill and zero gravity chairs were perfect for enjoying a delicious meal and providing front-row seats to view the stars and moon. The outside shower was an experience and a first for me. I mistakenly thought I had put enough water in there, but ran out with my hair covered in shampoo. Luckily, I was able to rebound pretty quickly and enjoyed an ice-cold shower on an extraordinarily hot day for October. Overall, this place and space offered me exactly what I was looking for, and I look forward to revisiting it soon.

Perfect spot to have some privacy and feel safe. Camping on grass and some level ground is really nice as opposed to a beet down Public camp ground.
I sat and talked with owner Tom, great guy. They call people like this good folk. Real good site too solid ground, lots of geese and cranes went by multiple times. Loved the stay here. We tested out a new air tent here had several nice fires and ate few really good steaks our last night. I almost hate post up here about this little gem in fear of others finding out about this gem. Oh did I mention how Responsive and respectful Julie was in returning information and questions getting answered.

If you're looking for a place to get away for a few days I'd highly recommend. Booked during the week in September and had the whole place to myself. Plenty of places to walk around on the property and explore. I stayed in the treehouse and would encourage you to try it for yourself.
The hosts left me pretty much to myself unless I requested something and they were friendly and quick to respond if I needed something (fresh eggs, firewood, etc).
The tent campsites I saw were all nice and clean and were far enough apart to have some privacy if they have multiple guests. They also have a group campground.
One note, watch the chickens, they are sneaky and will sneak up and steal your food if you aren't careful.
I'll definitely be back.
