It's located outside of Washington, Louisiana where there are no city lights and lots of stars and things in the sky. There is 50-amp electricity with full hook-ups at each site. I have a laundry service and a small dog park. Short term and long term are welcomed. The sunrises and sunsets are exceptional here. I have a picnic table and fire pit available for your use. WELCOME TO BUTTE LA ROSE, THE HEART OF THE ATCHAFALAYA BASIN AND THE HEART OF ACADIANA:
In the early 1930s when the Army Corps of Engineers carved two long levees right through the Atchafalaya River Basin, what had once been a widely sprawling river system prone to seasonal flooding became a fifteen-mile-wide "spillway" contained between those two earthen walls. The water level in the Basin rose by several feet, permanently flooding many areas, and people who had made their homes there eventually moved to communities on the dry, western side of the levee--Henderson, Catahoula, Bayou Benoit and beyond--leaving no trace of the old settlements behind. Only one community remained. Perched on a ridge along the banks of the Atchafalaya River, Butte La rose is the only community in St. Martin Parish that is still located between the Basin levees. No other place can claim to be the heart of Atchafalaya as credibly as Butte La Rose can. The community is nestled against one of the more winding meanderings of the Atchafalaya River, and residents remain closely tied to the river and other nearby waterways--fishing, crawfishing, frogging and hunting, enjoying bayou-side crawfish boils and pleasure boating. So many waterways surround Butte La Rose--Butte La Rose Canal, Henderson Lake, Lake Begneaux, Lake Pelba--it's as close to an island as you can get without actually being an island.
We are only 3 miles from interstate 10 but we are a small remote camping village.
Many hummingbirds visit here every year. They arrive in March and leave in Sept.

A gem of a little campsite.... I pulled in after dark and was led by hosts to a lighted pathway leading to a bridge over a small coulée... Had the entire site to myself.... a wooded copse full of fireflies and owls...
Negatives would be of course the inevitable and ever-present mosquitoes found in wooded damp areas of south Louisiana... were not however overwhelming... Of more concern were the fire ants.... These South American fire ants are well established in south Louisiana ... there were several treated hills that had been killed but more had come about since this treatment and I mentioned this to the hosts.
I stayed Friday Saturday and Sunday night... I was surprised at the amount of vehicular traffic in the area including four-wheeling kids.... But things definitely calmed down as the night progressed.
Ali will mention the GPS directions are somewhat flawed depending on the direction you take ...Probably a good idea to talk to Ali to get the fine visual points of where to turn.
Overall this was a very nice experience.... very kind and gracious hosts and prices significantly better than some of the surrounding choices for hip camping

We really enjoyed our time camping. The property was easy to find with the directions Susan gave us. She was a great host and we found her to be very helpful. The sites are a nice mix of open and wooded areas. Spent the night in our hammocks and found it to be quite peaceful out there.

Ginny and her husband were friendly and accommodating! We had one very small issue and they were proactive to take care of it. Showers were warm and the bed was comfy. I loved having access to a fire pit. Ginny has thought to stock the rv with anything you could possibly need!

Thanks for allowing me to you use land to do some cold weather camping, I couldn’t find the camp ground initially but i contacted the owners and Mr Andy I believe his name was.. quickly found me and led me to the camp ground.. he showed me around and told me if I needed anything to let him know.. I picked a area tucked away in the woods.. it was dark and peaceful and plenty of fire wood was available for a awesome fire.. the only slight con is I was awoke out my sleep to some dogs barking I am assuming they were over the fence but they seemed pretty close.. all in all I will be back and I recommend this campground for primitive tent camping

Wow this wonderful place is not only charming but has so much to do around it. Ginny & Scotty are the most wonderful hosts. Ginny has all information for you when you arrive about restaurants, local pubs, 100 yr old store that was a gem. They have a very level spot with a picnic table, Tiki torches and a very nice porch to sit and enjoy getting to know each other. We cant wait to come back.

Our stay at De' Thibodeaux was great. The forest surrounding our camp felt private and secluded. The open grass fields between the campsites created an open air atmosphere. At night, you could hear a symphony of crickets and owls. The lighted bridge across the canal into the trail felt magical. My only drawback was that I brought too much gear. I was not prepared for the amount of walking it would take to get from the campsite, back to the vehicle. Otherwise, it was an amazing area.And a lot of culture and sites to be seen in surrounding areas.

This was a beautiful location and great introduction to Louisiana terrain for a family who had never been :) Our stay got cut short due to some environmental influences (some heavy rain and brown recluses within the tent). Would have loved to stay if we prepped better and didn't have a young child with. Only complaint, is parking is described on site, I would say its better stated as on property, as this is not a drive up to your site and unload kind of experience. If we would have known, we would have packed much lighter. Regardless, a beautiful spot, accommodating host, and lots of wildlife to be heard at night!

Awesome site! Very nice and easy access right off the road. We arrived late at night and were able to drive right in and hookup since the host had provided extension connections for all services. Very quiet location and very well maintained. Hosts were very kind and provided us with printed local information for the area as well as a small gift. Would definitely visit again the next time we are in the area!
