The woods are quiet and undisturbed , harboring native species like jack in the pulpit, trillium and Florida anise. The spring-fed (and thus always refreshing!) Topisaw Creek forms the eastern border of our property, so plan to spend time on the sandy beaches and rock bars soaking up the sun or hunting for rocks and fossils (petrified wood and arrowheads have been found here). Many folks also enjoy a leisurely float down the creek in inner tubes ('tubing') or in a kayak. (Please note that after heavy rains the creek rises to epic heights and is too dangerous to navigate.) Little to no light pollution makes for amazing stargazing!

All You Need is a 111 acre paradise that is home to some VERY unique and endangered habitat. Our northern boundary is a tract of DeSoto National Forest, where we have practically exclusive access to another 90 acres of longleaf pine savannah and more bottomland creeks.
The sandhills are a "desert in the rain," home to prickly pear cactus and yuccas, abundant lichens (deer "moss"), the endangered black pine snake, and our mascot, the also endangered Gopher Tortoise.
We're a nature education and retreat center where we share permaculture practices, homesteading/sustainable living skills, conservation practices, and approaches to connecting more deeply to the land. Check out our sister non-profit, the Burrow Nature Center.
You will have access to our many walking paths and our swimming pond, as well as a 15 minute walk to part of DeSoto National Forest, which butts up to our property line.
We would love to have you as our guest on the land, and are especially eager to meet travelers who deeply love nature and want to live in better relationship to it!

Such a fantastic and beautiful property and at a great price. Clyde was a tremendous host who was generously accommodating during my stay. Enjoyed the conversations, the environment, fishing, beautiful and peaceful views of his property. Ducks and chickens hang out as part of the family. I caught several big mouth bass, black crappie and other types of fish in the lake. This was my first stay on Hipcamp, and it will be a tough accommodation to beat, especially for the price. A definite worthwhile Hipcamp offering that I hope to make it back in my travels.

Site #1 was the perfect camping spot for my partner and our dogs. It was very peaceful and quiet. Easy walk from where you park to where you camp. The trails were well maintained. At night, the sound of frogs was easy to sleep to. Highly recommend. Will go back.

For sure one of the best spots I’ve been to. Trails, fishing, kayaking and so much peace. The dogs were able to run, I got to relax on the water and my son was free to explore, it doesn’t get much better than that.

Love camping here. Theres lots of space, it’s beautiful and private. Good hammock trees and wonderful river for splashing in. Having the table and chairs already there is definitely helpful.

We stayed at camp site 8 which had the woods behind us and an open field in front. Even though we were not tucked in the woods, the spot still offered constant shade for our tent and plenty of shade around the rest of the area. Perfect spot for our trip with 2 young kids and 2 dogs. The creek was pretty cool, kids definelty could spend all day there but id highly recommend to wear water shoes in the water and on the sand/rocks.

The yurt was spacious and relatively well-maintained. The restroom and the ranger station are just a short walk away so the lack of facilities in the yurt is hardly a problem.

Had an absolute blast rockhounding!! They showed us exactly where to look for the rock bank and we found some outstanding stuff. We booked this in the middle of the night and they were able to accommodate us that same day with no problem. Definitely recommend and we will be back, thanks again!!

1 night at Renovated Skoolie
My friend and i loved our time at the skoolie! We stayed in late January. Iit was below freezing temps outside, but the bus is temp controlled and well insulated. Brooke also went well out of her way to make sure that we were comfortable.
We felt safe, comfortable and welcomed.

This was our second time camping here, and we will absolutely be back. It’s a fantastic spot for tent camping! It’s safe, quiet, dog-friendly (leashes required but they had plenty of space to roam around on the extended leashes we brought) and very secluded. The trails and pond were a great bonus, and despite knowing others were on the property, we never saw anyone else during our stay. Jordan, the host, was very attentive and quick to help troubleshoot any issues. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a peaceful, well-maintained camping experience.

The hosts were so great with my needs and accommodations and offered me a different spot to allow me to pull my car up closer. Amazing location. Very quiet, even got to hear wolves or coyotes and the view of the stars was outstanding. Sweet Luna, one of the farm dogs, slept outside my tent all night and made me feel very comfortable. Can’t wait to come back!

Great place to go unplug and relax.
If you're tent camping, power and water availability depends on your location on the site. The owners are still developing the camping areas so this may change over time.
There is a road near by but traffic is pretty light during the weekend.
The bathroom was super clean (no spiders). A real plus for the wife. lol
Like I said, the owners are still building this up. They have one little cabin completed (super nice inside), are working to finish the second, and have the foundation set for a third.
I'm looking forward to visiting again to see the development over time

Where to go
De Soto National Forest
De Soto National Forest features a varied ecosystem of cypress swamps, savanna, hardwood forest, and dry ridges. Campers enjoy canoeing or floating down Black Creek, the only national scenic river in Mississippi. After a creekside adventure, try biking, hunting, angling, canoeing, and ATV riding. Managed campgrounds in De Soto include Big Biloxi Recreation Area, P.O.W. Lake Recreation Area, and several campgrounds along Black Creek. Open year-round, Big Biloxi’s 25 campsites are outfitted with utility hookups as well as convenient dump stations and showers nearby.
Homochitto National Forest
About 70 miles west from Tylertown, Homochitto National Forest spans seven counties and over 191,000 acres of rugged terrain for horseback riding, hiking, hunting, and camping. Campers can swim and fish in Okhissa Lake before stopping by Clear Springs Recreation Area’s picnic grounds, man-made lake, hiking trails, and campgrounds—which are the only managed campgrounds in Homochitto. Clear Springs offers sites for tents and RVs, as well as group camping sites, with accessible bathhouses, flush toilets, electric and water hookups, and a sanitary dump station.
Bienville National Forest
Two hours north of Tylertown is Bienville National Forest, a vast wilderness of pine and oak trees that stretches over 175,000 acres. Marathon Lake and Shongelo Lake offer fishing and other water activities, as well as hiking and horseback riding opportunities. Campers can stay at Marathon Recreation Area, which features 34 campsites equipped with water and electric hookups, two bathhouses with hot showers, a boat ramp, and a dumping station.
When to go
Tylertown offers year-round activities for all visitors. Campers can enjoy warm, rain-free weather from around March to October. Summer hits an average high of about 91°F, which is a perfect time for campers to cool off in Mississippi lakes. The off-season still sees plenty of activity among campers who enjoy hunting and wildlife. Tylertown and the nearby area rarely see snow in winter. January is the coldest month with an average high of 61°F and an average low of about 41°F.
