The water level in the Basin rose by several feet, permanently flooding many areas, and people who had made their homes there eventually moved to communities on the dry, western side of the levee--Henderson, Catahoula, Bayou Benoit and beyond--leaving no trace of the old settlements behind. Only one community remained. Perched on a ridge along the banks of the Atchafalaya River, Butte La rose is the only community in St. Martin Parish that is still located between the Basin levees. No other place can claim to be the heart of Atchafalaya as credibly as Butte La Rose can. The community is nestled against one of the more winding meanderings of the Atchafalaya River, and residents remain closely tied to the river and other nearby waterways--fishing, crawfishing, frogging and hunting, enjoying bayou-side crawfish boils and pleasure boating. So many waterways surround Butte La Rose--Butte La Rose Canal, Henderson Lake, Lake Begneaux, Lake Pelba--it's as close to an island as you can get without actually being an island. We are only 3 miles from interstate 10 but we are a small remote camping village. Many hummingbirds visit here every year. They arrive in March and leave in Sept. Great overnight stay... not too far off major highway. They have a trail on the property that gave our 2 little Chihuahuas an added delight with all the various smells & a great way to stretch your legs. Property was well manicured - grass was cut, sites were excellent & the wifi is an added touch. Overall great stay & will definitely recommend to other travelers if in this area.

Ginny has all information for you when you arrive about restaurants, local pubs, 100 yr old store that was a gem. They have a very level spot with a picnic table, Tiki torches and a very nice porch to sit and enjoy getting to know each other. We cant wait to come back.

Awesome site! Very nice and easy access right off the road. We arrived late at night and were able to drive right in and hookup since the host had provided extension connections for all services. Very quiet location and very well maintained. Hosts were very kind and provided us with printed local information for the area as well as a small gift. Would definitely visit again the next time we are in the area!

Absolutely the sweetest hosts we have ever encountered. We ended up with car trouble just before we hit the campsite and they were so kind and helpful. Upon arrival we recieved a brochure highlighting local history and attractions complete with good recommendations and sites to see, and even a welcome gift. We decided to stay an extra night. Hosts are friendly and kind, site it well kept and peaceful, and the setting couldn’t be more lovely.

So peaceful. The spaces are wide and far enough apart to allow a little privacy. Our site was more than long enough for the truck and 5th wheel. Just FYI, all of the connections are at the back of the site, so make sure you have long hoses if your water and sewer are mid-rig like ours. Nicely treed and far enough off the road that you don't hear the road noise.

Everything went excellent. We were just a quick stop over for the night, but campsite and hosts were outstanding. Greeted by camp hosts upon arrival. I can't say enough good things about camp hosts Ginny and Scott. Thoughtfulness, friendliness is first 2 that come to mind. The Atchafalaya Basin area is beautiful and I would like to make a trip back to explore it, and definatley staying at Kickin it in the Butte again!
