Roaring Shoals is a family farm. This campsite is a double capacity with full hookup, located in a rural community halfway between Jackson and Salyersville on Highway 30 East. The site is close to the road; however there is much woodland to explore located on the property. We have small waterfall and a natural rock formation that can be hiked to. There is a shoal a very short walk from the campsite that is a wonderful place to enjoy the creek! There is great cellular service if your device uses Verizon towers, as there is a tower on the property. This is the perfect place to come and relax if you are visiting the area. It is approximately 12 miles from a small town with local restaurants and convenience stores. Our farm raised , dry aged black angus beef can be purchased if available; please check availability by calling a few days prior to your stay. You may also purchase firewood that was harvested from our property which is a certified tree farm. Our cattle are raised on another of our properties located a few miles up the road. We would be happy to schedule a time to take you there to see where they are born and raised.

This camping experience takes place on a 200+ year old farm. We currently offer multiple camping options, most of which are only accessible by either all-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive vehicles. The first location (along the main road) is solely for RVs or travel trailers (TT). The other camping locations are for tent camping, and much smaller/narrower and rugged RV/TT with a 4-wheel drive towing vehicle.
Daniel and Cherith Kennedy purchased this 164-acre farm in 2014, and Daniel's parents, Brent Rita Kennedy, purchased the 1800's era farmhouse from Daniel and Cherith a couple years later. Together, we have transformed this farm back into a working farm with hay fields, cattle, donkeys, goats, sheep, chickens and any other critters we buy or rescue. We are currently rehabilitating the 1700's era one room schoolhouse at the front corner of our land as well. This farm is full of memories, hard work, and is absolutely stunning.
Your hosts on-site are Brent and Rita Kennedy, and they are famous for spoiling our guests rotten. They can give you tours of the farm, some in-season eggs and veggies as they have available, and even throw in some petting opportunities. They love having visitors and are sure to make your trip memorable.

We have:
Wooded/Grassy hills with plenty of tree cover and open space to spread out . A uniquely positioned community fire pit is available with an impressive view. It is very rustic and primitive, but well kept, quiet, secluded, with developing surroundings.
There is direct access to Jefferson National Forest and miles of hiking, biking and horseback trails. Equestrians encouraged, but is Bring your own horse and Tie Line.
Nearby sites include Bark Camp Lake, Guest River Gorge, Bear Rock, Little Stony Falls, Chief Benge Trail, Devils Bath Tub, and High Knob. We are also located along several driving and scenic routes to include: Backroads of the Cumberland's, Appalachian Backroads, Virginia Wildlife and Birding Trail, and Thomas Jefferson Scenic Byway (Rt. 72). In addition, within a short drive there is an ATV trailhead in the local town. The Clinch River is not far at all as well.
There is a small quaint downtown less than 5 miles with grocery, gas, supplies, and a few places to eat.
Mission:
The original idea for CR Adventure Outpost came many years ago. We grew up visiting "Grandparents" in Wise County and developed a deep love for the area, the outdoors, and all it had to offer. There came a point, , when we realized that the amount of outdoor activities and authentic cultural experiences could indeed support visitors. It could also support many business opportunities once everyone became aware of what was all around them. At that point, a process began of research and planning on ideas some thought were pointless. People deeply want to get back to nature and withdrawal from a fast paced materialistic society, at least long enough to realize what is really important in life. Amy and Erik were fantastic hosts alway helpful but never intrusive. The property is clean and well taken care of .
The campsite is flat and easy to get into. Although it's close to the road it wasn't a problem.
We would return next time we're in the area.

The host Amy and her husband we incredibly helpful with out being intrusive at all. The beef was an added bonus! Would recomend leaving with a cooler full!

Gorgeous and so peaceful! The site was fairly level and we had an easy time parking and leaving. The bridge to get there is pretty narrow but we managed just fine. Hosts were friendly and responsive. Definitely recommend!!

Amy's farm is in a beautifully setting with very friendly hosts and neighbors. Our children got a kick out of waving at every car that drove past. We did a little hiking up some steep gravel roads and got our feet wet in the clear running spring water. In the evening we found a dark spot along the road to star gaze and watched a pair of bats enjoying a feast of bugs. Our only struggle was with the deer ticks, which we developed a sharp eye for. We would definitely stay again should we find ourselves in the area.
