The property is a second farm that has been in my family's history since the 1960's. We are a working crop, horses and beef cattle farm. We raise crops on this property. We have a main farm down the road that if you would like to visit, we can try setting that up so you can see the animals if you would like. Please note that the cabin has a porta potty outside. The cabin does not have electricity, but an extension cord can be brought and plugged into the outdoor electric outlet. The cord can be run into the cabin to use the fan, lamp and electric skillet or infrared heater in the colder months. There is a water hydrant outside for bathing or boiling. The water is non potable. We have direct access to the property for ATV/UTV's for the public road use on the back roads. You can travel from town to town and sight see. The property is between two towns and is close to places to see and things to do, driftless area history, wineries, caves, hiking, canoeing, fishing, sightseeing, river, streams and more.

The property has been in my family for over 40 years and was originally settled in the mid 1800's. It is about 10 acres and is primarily wooded with Cedar, Oak, Maple, Hickory and Birch. The topography is diverse, having steep heights, easy flats and everything in between; which makes hiking fun and interesting. The lower College Drive side features a historic limestone homestead and quarry, also a fossil rich creek-bed and rustic (4WD) road to the top. The upper property (Hwy. 52 access) offers a secluded forest as well as a spacious meadow. The woods are filled with birds and many other indigenous wild animals. We are only a half mile from towns edge and two miles from its center (also a five minute drive from Luther College). The Decorah area is well known for its scenic natural beauty and has extensive hiking trails, biking trails, cross-country ski routes, rivers, creeks and hunting areas. People come here year round for our outdoor recreation and beauty. Canoeing, Kayaking, Fishing, Tubing, X-country skiing, and Trail Riding are very popular activities around here. When glaciers were in surrounding areas, the melt-water sometimes made its way into the Driftless Area and contributed to the formation of the valleys and bluffs which characterize the landscape, which is known for steep hills, forested ridges, deeply carved river valleys, and karst geology with caves and spring-fed cold water trout streams. Such a lovely space in a gorgeous place with great hosts! Betty and Ed were super welcoming, friendly, and accommodating to our needs as guests. Their land is stunning and it was so nice to step right outside the cabin to go on nature walks. The nearby towns are fun to explore too. The photos of their cabin don’t do it justice, it’s very cute and thoughtfully designed! Would happily stay here again.

My partner and I loved our stay at the Heart of the Driftless. The directions were clear and simple. We enjoyed the scenery and lots of amazing wildlife. This was a trip for my spouse and I to celebrate our anniversary, and it was the absolute best experience to have one-on-one time away from kiddos and to be in nature. Betty was a wonderful communicator, very thorough in her instructions and directions, and gave us the lay of the land upon arrival. We were kicking ourselves that we didn’t reserve more than two nights. From hiking to fishing to cooking outside, firepit, cards and movies inside, it was a lovely experience. The cabin itself was perfect. Brand new and very functional. We truly had everything we needed and more. Do yourself a favor and check this place out!

Very easy to find, great communication with the host . Very quiet and a fun place with everything you would ever need. Great fire pit with plenty of dry firewood, would definitely stay again a fun eclectic little home!

We absolutely loved our stay at this cozy off-grid cabin! From the moment we arrived, it was clear how much care and intention went into creating this peaceful little retreat. The cabin was clean, beautifully situated, and had everything we needed to unplug and reconnect with each other and with nature. The property itself is quiet, private, and full of charm. We appreciated all of the details—solar lights, thoughtful furnishings, and the clear instructions that made everything easy to navigate despite being off-grid. It truly struck the perfect balance between rustic and comfortable. We also want to express our heartfelt thanks for the kindness and hospitality we received. My partner had some car troubles during our stay, and when we went down to Karen’s property, they graciously let us borrow tools to help us out. That act of generosity meant so much and really speaks to the spirit of this place. This spot was exactly what we were hoping for: a chance to step away from the noise of everyday life and just be. We’re already dreaming about coming back. Highly, highly recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful, grounded getaway.

Weekend Trip to RidgeRiverView Acres

We loved Jims Cozy Cabin. Jim was super laid back. This was a perfect place for me, my husband and our two pups. We stayed only two nights but could have stayed longer. Our pups loved exploring the farm and I loved floating in the pond with our neighbor. Whom stayed in the beautiful canvas tent on the other side of the pond. It was very secluded with all the amenities you'll need. He offered to help with our fire and he blew up floats for us. He even offered us fresh veggies from his garden. The cabin was very clean and cute. A/C worked great and was much needed. Cabin was only an hour away from Galena IL and 30 min from Dubuque IW both towns have great shopping, bars and restaurants. But if you're just looking to get away from the city and see the stars this place is where you need to be. We loved sitting on the dock at night looking at the stars. You can tell Jim spent a lot of hard work on his property to make it beautiful with all the flowers and hanging lights everywhere even around the lake. When we left we couldn't thank Jim enough. We will be back.

2 nights at Peaceful Cabin

We enjoyed our stay at Peaceful Cabin. The area was beautiful and it was easy to find. The road up to the cabin was doable with AWD. Sarah and her husband were very responsive and helpful during our stay. The cabin is very nice, cozy, and quiet. I was pleasantly surprised that there was a window AC unit as it in the 90s when we arrived and my dog was able to cool off.

We loved the views, the trails, the location, the privacy, and the ability to have our dogs with without any worries! Everything was great and we had everything we needed. Thais and his mother wer super helpful and informative with directions and making sure we had what we needed. We also had the luxury of staying one night in the GreenHouse. Very Cool! Definitely a place to check out!!

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at this serene and beautiful campsite. The cabin was exactly as advertised—clean, cozy, and thoughtfully set up for comfort. My wife, daughter, and I spent our days bird watching and soaking in the quiet beauty of nature, and our nights stargazing under a breathtaking sky. It was the perfect escape from the noise of everyday life. Karen, the host, was fantastic—warm, welcoming, and responsive. You can tell she really cares about creating a great experience for her guests. We left feeling refreshed, peaceful, and already looking forward to our next visit. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a tranquil retreat in nature!
