Located near Lake Maxinkuckee and the charming town of Culver, there’s plenty to explore just a short drive away. There are also a few nature preserves nearby as well as a new Bark Park! A nearby country store (2 miles) offers pizza, chicken, ice, and other essentials.

This is a hidden gem in the outskirts of Gary. Located on the Calumet river is this amazing horse farm with 3 horses and 4 ponies. It’s 1 mile off of the 80/94 and 65 highway. Only a 45 min drive from Chicago. We also offer free parking to Miller Beach on Lake Michigan which is only a 10 min drive to there and the Indiana Dunes. Theres also Deep River Dam where you can drop your kayak and do some fishing less then a mile away.

The bungalo at Melissa's alpaca farm was fantastic. I stayed 2 weeks before Christmas, and even when the weather was bitter cold, I stayed warm and comfortable in bed with a heated blanket. I'll be back with a larger group this summer. This is great for a little personal hideaway, or for larger events like family reunions.

The place looked great when we arrived, especially lit up at night. Inside, it had that familiar campfire-and-wood smell that made it feel comfortable right away. The heated blanket was the saving grace of the stay. It was in the 30s, and the small radiator heater struggled to keep up, so most of the evening was spent bundled up together under the blanket.
The cabin is very small, and the property itself isn’t large either, so you can hear some street noise. Being close to town was convenient, though. We grabbed Chinese carry-out and it was surprisingly good after a cold day.
Leslie was thrilled to meet the alpacas, which added a fun moment to the trip. There are several areas set up for groups, and I would definitely come back with friends. The space works well for hanging out and enjoying a simple, low-key getaway.

It was great! The ambiance at night was incredible. We had crappy weather while we were there (rained 4 of the 5 days 😅) but we still had a great time. The yurt made the trip doable even with the rain. We’ll definitely be back!

It’s such a cute little place! Perfect if you want to camp, but don’t want to pack all of the stuff that goes with it! And…perfect for you-never-know-about-the-weather weather. Adorable garden and the alpacas are so darn cute!!! Nice a private!!

Absolutely wonderful! The camp is beautiful, even at the end of the season. 2 of the 5 of us had never camped before and it was all 3 kids favorite place we stayed (over 6 nights throughout Michigan, a different town each day). The host was positively amazing and extremely kind. We will be back for sure.

My partner and I took our three teenage nephews (and dog) and we had the most fun, peaceful weekend at Blooming Bus Farms. This was the perfect place for nature lovers who enjoy some comforts of home. Melissa was incredibly accommodating and quick to respond, and made us feel welcome before setting foot on the land. She let us meet their sweet and funny alpacas, which was a real treat for us city dwellers. The entire property is enchanting and our campsite truly became our home for a couple days. We will be coming back for a couple’s trip, and the boys are already asking if we can take them again. 10 out of 10!

We had a wonderful stay. Nice to have a getaway like this so close to the city. We enjoyed the site- absolutely beautiful view of ponies and goats. Camper was worn and comfortable and very well stocked. There’s some highway noise but it becomes like white noise- I didn’t notice it really. The host was incredibly nice and helpful and communicative. We hope to return.

Weekend Trip to Lochloosa River Retreat
My fiancée and I loved our weekend getaway at Nichole’s site. She was very welcoming & gave us a tour of the camp site. The area was very clean & was a perfect spot for us to disconnect from the city life. She even offered the river tubing ride which we also HIGHLY recommend. It was definitely the highlight of our trip. Nicole was also very quick on her responses and helped us with the questions we had.
We will definitely visit again & we recommend this stay 👍🏼💚🌳

We had such a wonderful stay here! Derek is a very helpful and responsive host. My daughter absolutely loved all the animals — cats, dogs, horses, and goats — which made the trip extra special. The location is perfect, close to the beach and just a short drive from Chicago, so it was both relaxing and convenient. We would definitely love to come back again.

Weekend Trip to Blooming Bus Farms
Blooming Bus Farms is a gem! We camped in the bungalow mid-September. After getting settled, we roamed the property and played best of 10 at the basketball hoop, played H-O-R-S-E on the disc golf basket, and hung out on the garden swing at dusk.
We loved the vibe of the property that there was a camp store where you could purchase light up toys, hats, mittens, honey, etc and pay via Venmo. The light up helicopter you we purchased for $2 at the camp store gave us some good entertainment. They also had firewood bundles right at the site that you pay for via Venmo. So convenient that you don’t have to lug it from the store to the campsite.
The kitchen kit upgrade was well worth it! We brought in brats for the campfire swivel grill for dinner and pancakes and sausage on the gas griddle in the morning.
The part we were nervous about were the bathroom and shower setup. Although I’m a girlie who is fine skipping a shower when camping, I just had to try the outdoor shower. It was amazing - the temperature was already set at the perfect temperature and there was shampoo and conditioner there. It was nicer shampoo than I have at home! And the water pressure was great.
There was an outdoor kitchen counter and sink that was great for brushing your teeth and washing dishes.
The toilet setup worked out just fine. It was our first time with a compost toilet. It was ok, but I opted for the port a potties on-site for the majority of the weekend.
Finally the unit itself was delightful.

I love staying at blooming bus farms! This is the 1st time though staying in the bungalow. It was amazing! The bohemian decor really stands out and if you’re not impressed with that, just wait till night when everything is lit up. Melissa the hostess was extremely responsive to any questions that I had.
