Enjoy the country life in Kau on the South End of the Big Island and the lovely red Lehua flowers blooming. We live on 20 acres on Road to the Sea, which has a remote green sand beach at the end of the road (4 miles down from us). We call our slice of paradise, Honua Laa (a sacred place).
Straight down to the coast is a beautiful black and green sand beach and a huge tide pool. Rent a four-wheel-drive to get there. You don’t need a 4WD to get to our place, but you will need a SUV or truck. Go slow the road is bumpy and rough in places. We are 1.2 miles from the highway.
Off the grid. Rustic, but fun.
If you are a Eco tourist or seeking adventure, you will love our spot!
The silence is golden and the stars are amazing.
Don't expect a hotel...this is upcountry glamorous camping.
Shared bathroom (see photos) about a 100 feet away. Hipcamp kitchenette includes a propane single burner, ice chest, No fridge. No oven. We have an outdoor fire pit, if you like campfires!
It's one-of-a-kind! Most of the parcels are 20 acre parcels around… But a few smaller parcels across the road. We have nice neighbors who keep an eye on things.
The nearest grocery store is about 3 miles away. The Hele-On Bus is just 1.2 miles up the road. If you want to drive to the green sand beach at the end of our road, rent a 4 wheel drive. If you are athletic, you can walk, but it is 4 miles down and 4 miles back. I recommend going early in the morning and take water.
Hot water shower is propane. Bring ice for your ice chest. Bring drinking water. There is plenty of coffee and tea in the kitchenette. Boil hot water in the kettle, put cone filter with a paper filter and ground coffee inside and on top of thermos. Drip. It's delicious!
This is off the grid solar and there can be days without sun, or other glitches. No wifi. I use ATandT and I understand that Verizon and Tmobile work also
The panoramic ocean view is spectacular! Very peaceful and relaxing!
The back 15 acres is an old Ohia forest with 500 year old trees and lots of birds. You might even see a wild goat or a wild pig. There are small caves and gorgeous rock formations. It backs up to Manuka Forest Reserve.
We have beautiful furnished cabins with beds, so you don't have to pitch a tent. Pillows, blankets, fresh towels provided.

The quiet neighborhood of small farms also lends itself to hill walking and exploring. While not "off grid," the space is intentionally peaceful and screen free. Wifi is not available in the space itself, but can be accessed nearby in our main parking area. Cell service is excellent for most providers, allowing for guests to use their own "hotspot" as needed for staying connected.
Nearby beaches offer stunning views and spectacular snorkeling. The home is well stocked for beach visits-- towels and snorkel gear are available for your use.
Your hosts produce vibrant organic vegetables and fruit for top island restaurants and local grocery stores. This home is nestled among our organic coffee and citrus orchards.

We have a 24-foot Class C RV, Ohana, surrounded by coconut palms and offering a 180-degree, million-dollar view! Enjoy the peace and quiet along with refreshing ocean breezes.
The RV sleeps up to 4 guests, with a queen-size cab-over bed and a full-size bed. It includes a kitchen and a bathroom with a toilet and shower.
There’s a large covered lanai for watching the sunsets each evening, as well as a fire pit for campfires.
Mountain goats occasionally graze on the property, and during whale season you will not only see whales—you can also hear them!
We are located in South Kona, 35 miles south of Kailua-Kona, 56 miles from Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, and 95 miles from Hilo.

I loved staying here! The hosts were amazing and attentive, and also so kind in letting us borrow their truck to get up the driveway. They left us some snacks as a nice welcome too! The RV is stocked too with tea and coffee which was great, since we hadn’t brought any with us. All the dishes and cooking necessities were there too and in great shape. It was very easy to communicate with them and if we needed anything we could text them!

Truly an amazing sight to behold! Lots of little details went in to creating and maintaining the RV space. We were made to feel right at home. All the basic amenities were there, which was crucial as we forgot to bring coffee. It would have been easy to just spend all day relaxing and taking in the sights of the ocean. Lots of happy birds talking to us, beautiful fruit trees, and so much more . . . Would definitely stay again 10/10

Exceeded our expectations!
Shocked how a house built in a tree was better maintained, functioning and even less bugs than regular houses.
But this is not just a place to stay, it was a place to feel, see and experience what true gratitude, thought and love looks like. The sheer amount of effort and care put into building and maintaining a place like this gave me perspective and filled me with gratitude for any and everyone who has helped to make this possible.
If youre a person who is seeking something deeper in life this is the place to go. I imagine there have been so many life changing realizations that have taken place at these treehouses.
What i wrote while I was there, speculating about what Skye Petterson might have experienced in his life and how he might feel after having brought so much joy to the world was this: "We dont need to force our love on to others or strive for it. Everything we need lies right where we stand, within ourselves. If we can develope the love, respect and understanding of who we are as an individual, we will discover a never ending source of power to accomplish great feats that will naturally express our love to the world and we will find that the world will naturally reflect that love back to us."
Thank you Cassandra for working us and sacrificing for our fluctuating time schedule. I can see you have a beautiful soul, dont forget to let it shine, especially on cloudy days.

We had the most wonderful stay at Belinda’s farm. From the moment we arrived, Belinda and her husband made us feel genuinely welcome. They are such kind, warm, and passionate hosts, and it truly shows in the way they care for both their guests and their beautiful property.
Having access to the farm was such a special experience. The atmosphere was incredibly peaceful and pleasant; the perfect place to relax and unwind. The ocean view was absolutely breathtaking and made our mornings even more magical.
The accommodation itself was spotless, clean, and very well organized. Everything we needed was thoughtfully provided, which made our stay comfortable and stress-free. You can tell they have put so much love and attention into every detail.
We’re so grateful for the experience and would absolutely stay here again. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a peaceful getaway with truly wonderful hosts!

This felt like our antidote to high cost, sterile-looking tourist resorts, but with a resort worthy view, and genuine hospitality. The Comfy RV was exactly our speed, and was a magical experience. This spot is ideal if you don’t mind the quirks and nuances of an older RV and value quiet and the natural beauty of the island. The RV is older, but is well maintained, clean and well stocked with what you need to cook, etc. The lanai has the most gorgeous view and is an excellent spot to sit with a cup of coffee, we saw whales one morning, or to do homework midday as my kids did. The evening sunset is beautiful. Mark and Chris are kind and generous hosts. Getting down the driveway from the main road definitely requires 4WD…, for sure. My only hesitation in recommending this gem is that I don’t want it to be booked up the next time we visit! Part of why we want to come back to Hawaii is to have a chance to stay there again.

AMAZING. "Tree houses" are often ill-equipped or just a regular house on stilts. This is a gorgeous, fully-livable, honest-to-god, sways-in-the-wind treehouse in a beautiful, private pocket of Hawaii's iconic rainforest. The kitchen is fully equipped and we made several meals, and hosted four adults comfortably (although two of us slept in a little pocket - it's best set up for two adults and a handful of kiddos). The water pressure is minimal at times, but that didn't cause any real problems, and the walkways, covered porch, massive windows, comfortable seating and beds, etc are all top notch. We travel a lot, and I'm not sure we'll ever top this place.
100/10. Will return!

This was my landing place before spending the rest of my time camping on the island. The bed in the yurt was very comfy (I had the best nights of sleep!) and had just enough space for my things. I really enjoyed the kitchen and outdoor seating area that looked out to the ocean, and I especially enjoyed the nice hot shower.
I was a little confused with the parking (I initially parked in the area that was meant for the other lodging sites) as I didn't see the "yurt" on the signs pointing to the other parking area. Even though I ran into a staff member who ended up helping me find my way, I was given a very impersonal and rushed overview of where things were (bathrooms, kitchen, washrooms, etc.).

This is a very special place! Very sweet people and well kept land and rental spaces. I give it all the stars. The shared kitchen and shared bathroom that comes with renting the Cacau sweet were nice and were low use (not many other renters using them). The land is magical with fruit trees and flowering plants everywhere! You can also walk up the hill through the coffee farm. The frogs are loud at night but I enjoyed them. ear plugs provided on the night stand for those who don’t.

The Bamboo Cabin was a delightful glamping+ experience. We spent most of our time out on the lanai looking out at the tropical plants and food forest. We were grateful for the refrigerator so we could make use of the outdoor kitchen which was fun and easy to use. The composting toilet outhouse was clean and the toilet was very simple to use. We fell asleep in the comfy bed to the sound of frogs and rain on the tin roof.
Try all the recommendations in the book—they’re solid. Super J’s has delicious local fare, including the vegetarian stew. I really appreciated that they had a yummy vegetarian option. Definitely check out the magic sand beach, especially if you enjoy diving into the waves like me.
Also, there is no check out procedure, so pack in and pack out and leave the place as you found it (or better).

Weekend Trip to Pele’s Eye
Ruebon (the host) and his wife were amazing. The instructions to access the property were extremely clear. Additionally, he was there to greet us with a very warm welcome and explain where we would be staying. The property itself is amazing and I can’t think of a better scene to wake up to. Their hospitality was off the charts and I highly recommend this stay!
