Straight down to the coast is a beautiful black and green sand beach and a huge tide pool. Rent a four-wheel-drive to get there. You don’t need a 4WD to get to our place, but you will need a SUV or truck. Go slow the road is bumpy and rough in places. We are 1.2 miles from the highway.
Off the grid. Rustic, but fun.

The nearest grocery store is about 3 miles away. The Hele-On Bus is just 1.2 miles up the road. If you want to drive to the green sand beach at the end of our road, rent a 4 wheel drive. If you are athletic, you can walk, but it is 4 miles down and 4 miles back. I recommend going early in the morning and take water.
Hot water shower is propane. Bring ice for your ice chest. Bring drinking water. There is plenty of coffee and tea in the kitchenette. Boil hot water in the kettle, put cone filter with a paper filter and ground coffee inside and on top of thermos. Drip. It's delicious!
This is off the grid solar and there can be days without sun, or other glitches. No wifi. I use ATandT and I understand that Verizon and Tmobile work also
The panoramic ocean view is spectacular! Very peaceful and relaxing!
The back 15 acres is an old Ohia forest with 500 year old trees and lots of birds. You might even see a wild goat or a wild pig. There are small caves and gorgeous rock formations. It backs up to Manuka Forest Reserve.
We have beautiful furnished cabins with beds, so you don't have to pitch a tent. Pillows, blankets, fresh towels provided.

Mahalo, for your interest in visiting Big Island Farms located half way between the Historic Town of Honoka'a and the beautiful Waipi'o Valley. We are a permaculture based farm that hosts students from all over the world interested in learning more about sustainability, permaculture farming, Hawaiian culture and much more. During our off season, we open up the farm for you to visit and enjoy the beautiful Aina (land) and facilities.
Your stay with us could vary, from relaxing and reading a good book on one of our many decks or hiking through our upper orchards to find the on property waterfall that runs most of the year.
Our property is 65 acres with 50 acres of Macadamia Nut orchards and free roaming sheep and cows. The lower 15 acres consist of many different gardens, a green house (please do not enter), multiple Food Forests, 8 Cabanas, 2 classrooms 4 showers, 3 composting toilets and a kitchen with common area.
Each cabana is screened in 360º with views, two bunkbeds (sleeps 4), air mattresses, (Bring your own Sleeping Bag/Pillows) shelves, clothes lines on outside and lockable doors. There is no electricity in the cabanas but there are power strips available in the common area.
The common area consists of a large deck with picnic tables, Wifi access (pw: pickalltheweeds), power strips for charging electronics, canopies for when it rains, a 2-burner hotplate for cooking, pots, pans, plates, utensils, cups, dry food storage and a full sized fridge with freezer. Please keep the area clean.
We also offer morning Breakfast Basket options:
Small basket $ - 2 Papayas, 6 bananas, 2 cups of coffee.
Large basket $ - 4 papayas, 10 bananas, morning coffee during your stay.
Please keep in mind the fruit may vary depending on what is ripe.

In order to preserve water we utilize clean non-smelling composting toilets. We also have 4 hot water showers, 2 sinks and vanity areas. Please keep showers to 5 min or less, Mahalo.
If you come with a 4-wheel drive vehicle you are welcome to drive farther up on to the property and park closer to your cabana, just follow the Parking signs. We do not recommend you drive up with cars or low vehicles as the terrain is a bit rough, instead please park down in front in one of the parking spaces.

Enjoy the country life in Kau on the South End of the Big Island and the lovely red Lehua flowers blooming. We live on 20 acres on Road to the Sea, which has a remote green sand beach at the end of the road (4 miles down from us). We call our slice of paradise, Honua Laa (a sacred place).
Straight down to the coast is a beautiful black and green sand beach and a huge tide pool. Rent a four-wheel-drive to get there. You don’t need a 4WD to get to our place, but you will need a SUV or truck. Go slow the road is bumpy and rough in places. We are 1.2 miles from the highway.
Off the grid. Rustic, but fun.

Shared bathroom (see photos) about a 100 feet away. Hipcamp kitchenette includes a propane single burner, ice chest, No fridge. No oven. We have an outdoor fire pit, if you like campfires!

The nearest grocery store is about 3 miles away. The Hele-On Bus is just 1.2 miles up the road. If you want to drive to the green sand beach at the end of our road, rent a 4 wheel drive. If you are athletic, you can walk, but it is 4 miles down and 4 miles back. I recommend going early in the morning and take water.
Hot water shower is propane. Bring ice for your ice chest. Bring drinking water. There is plenty of coffee and tea in the kitchenette. Boil hot water in the kettle, put cone filter with a paper filter and ground coffee inside and on top of thermos. Drip. It's delicious!
This is off the grid solar and there can be days without sun, or other glitches. No wifi. I use ATandT and I understand that Verizon and Tmobile work also
The panoramic ocean view is spectacular! Very peaceful and relaxing!
The back 15 acres is an old Ohia forest with 500 year old trees and lots of birds. You might even see a wild goat or a wild pig. There are small caves and gorgeous rock formations. It backs up to Manuka Forest Reserve.
We have beautiful furnished cabins with beds, so you don't have to pitch a tent. Pillows, blankets, fresh towels provided.

Mahalo, for your interest in visiting Big Island Farms located half way between the Historic Town of Honoka'a and the beautiful Waipi'o Valley. We are a permaculture based farm that hosts students from all over the world interested in learning more about sustainability, permaculture farming, Hawaiian culture and much more. During our off season, we open up the farm for you to visit and enjoy the beautiful Aina (land) and facilities.
Your stay with us could vary, from relaxing and reading a good book on one of our many decks or hiking through our upper orchards to find the on property waterfall that runs most of the year.
Our property is 65 acres with 50 acres of Macadamia Nut orchards and free roaming sheep and cows. The lower 15 acres consist of many different gardens, a green house (please do not enter), multiple Food Forests, 8 Cabanas, 2 classrooms 4 showers, 3 composting toilets and a kitchen with common area.
Each cabana is screened in 360º with views, two bunkbeds (sleeps 4), air mattresses, (Bring your own Sleeping Bag/Pillows) shelves, clothes lines on outside and lockable doors. There is no electricity in the cabanas but there are power strips available in the common area.
The common area consists of a large deck with picnic tables, Wifi access (pw: pickalltheweeds), power strips for charging electronics, canopies for when it rains, a 2-burner hotplate for cooking, pots, pans, plates, utensils, cups, dry food storage and a full sized fridge with freezer. Please keep the area clean.
We also offer morning Breakfast Basket options:
Small basket $ - 2 Papayas, 6 bananas, 2 cups of coffee.
Large basket $ - 4 papayas, 10 bananas, morning coffee during your stay.
Please keep in mind the fruit may vary depending on what is ripe.

In order to preserve water we utilize clean non-smelling composting toilets. We also have 4 hot water showers, 2 sinks and vanity areas. Please keep showers to 5 min or less, Mahalo.
If you come with a 4-wheel drive vehicle you are welcome to drive farther up on to the property and park closer to your cabana, just follow the Parking signs. We do not recommend you drive up with cars or low vehicles as the terrain is a bit rough, instead please park down in front in one of the parking spaces.

Weekend Trip to Coco Hut Glamping at Honua La'a
What a unique and remarkably peaceful place. The yurt was extremely comfortable, including the bed, and the hosts were very kind. We would 100% stay here again if we were in the area. Our two-wheel SUV did okay but we needed a little momentum to get up out of the property back onto the road. We did not attempt to take it down to the green sand beach. Definitely stay here to get away from the crowds and absolute silence aside from the sound of rain on the rooftop when it comes and tons of lovely birds.

Lovely stay, I wish we had more than one night. The stars at night were so clear. We didn't meet Debbie in person but she was so kind, attentive, and quick to respond and check-in with us. They've clearly put a lot of thought and care into both the set-up of the cabin and the surrounding area, it has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The scenery was like being on Mars. The night we stayed was so very windy we had to make sure our items weren't being blown away - part of the fun!! Definitely check the weather ahead of time if you're wanting to do a campfire. The hot outdoor shower was the best we had on Big Island and so welcome with this chilly weather. The green sand beach was so much fun to visit but you definitely need 4x4. The approach road to the campsite is not bad at all, just go slow and make sure you get groceries etc. in advance/early as the area's quite remote.

Weekend Trip to Sunrise Cabanas Panoramic Views
I loved this site!! Situated on a beautiful farm with a fantastic view of the ocean, this was the perfect place to spend a rainy night.
The cabin itself was super cozy and cute, and while there are two other cabins on the property, ours felt completely private. The porta potty was the cleanest one I’ve ever encountered, and the outdoor shower had hot water, which was super nice. I appreciated how well-lit the site was, with motion sensor lights right outside the cottage and by the bathroom area. The property was gated and the door locked with a key, which made us feel super secure.
This site was amazing, and I would definitely return!!!

We had a great time. The rooms are comfortable, with ceiling fans and several screened windows to create a breeze. Showers and bath rooms are very close, and even though they are outside, the walk to and from is protected from the rain. The kitchen area was well appointed, with several sinks and a stove, dishes, kettles, things for coffee, and more. The site itself is gorgeous, with great views. Belinda was in touch throughout also, and very helpful. She was able to move a second bed to the room before we got there. It was very quiet too. We loved it.

My man friend and I stayed at the Coco Hut just as it was coming back online after a period of less frequent hosting. We were lucky enough to spend three nights here in a surreal landscape of lava rock, intermittently spaced okai trees, breeze, sky, and, at night, an aggressively loud set of stars. That's the only loud thing about this place as it is otherwise incredibly serene and peaceful. As people who were intending to camp, we were super comfortable in a big bed in a clean little rondavel / yurt/ cabin with a detached rustic toilet area. Thoughtful touches with a disproportionately wide reach started with warm hospitality and responsiveness by our hostess, Debbie, and extended to the cooler (stocked with enough ice for the first night), the outdoor shower stocked with all of the toiletries one would need, a propane burner, a cleaning station for dishes, two serviceable knives and a cutting board, & two each of utensils/plates/mugs.
The location is close to very cool outdoors activities. We enjoyed driving and then walking the rest of the way down the increasingly ROUGH Road to the Sea to check out the green sand beach, as well as an excellent tour of the volcanically created lava tubes, Kula Kai Caverns. At the caverns, you can go on a low commitment, short tour or a longer tour billed at $98 for 2 and 1/2 hours. We chose the latter and had a deep reveal in all senses of the word under the care and education of can tour guide Mo. Wonderful stay w/ great folks!

Beautiful quiet site with access to a community kitchen and outlets for charging devices. The common area was covered and lighted at night which was nice and the bananas were the best I've ever had. Mattresses are not super comfy but that's to be expected. Compost toilet is kept quite clean. Daisy gave me a wonderful fruit basket before I left which was delicious!

Nice private cabin and shared bathroom as described. Charger available for devices. No kitchen but Eddie was very nice and offered to keep ice in his freezer and brought coffee in the morning. Toilet and hot shower work well. Good value for the price given it's Hawaii and perfect location close to South Point!

Wendy's place was a slice of paradise wrapped inside a full serving of paradise. Like any holiday there were a few hiccups , but Wendy was in full contact and we were treated as if it were our home . We will be back .
The only real problem that could be resolved would be the cats prowling around . I counted 5 that came around regularly looking to be fed.

We enjoyed our comfy bed and deck perch in the jungle. The open kitchen was lovely to cook in. Wendy was away, but communication was excellent, and the caretakers were available, helpful and welcoming. We were driving a Honda Fit with very low clearance, so we drove the rocky road VERY slowly, and planned to come and go only once a day (we spent two nights). I would stay there again for sure, but only if I had a vehicle with higher clearance.

This was our second early-December stay here. The property is in an excellent location above Naalehu, is easy to find, and has spectacular views of the surrounding hillside and ocean. Brian, the onsite manager, was responsive and friendly, and made us feel welcome. The cabins are cute and clean, and the crickets and coqui frogs serenaded us to sleep. The outdoor shower is private and clean, and has plenty of hot water. This is a simple little gem of a place, and we would definitely stay here again.

We loved staying at Wendy’s! She was an incredibly generous host and communicated really well. As soon as we landed in Kona, she let us know that a volcano was fountaining, told us to head straight there, and had no issues with our late check-in as a result! Literally a once in a lifetime opportunity we would have missed if not for Wendy.
The space itself was beautiful. Wendy’s property is gorgeous and she gave us a lovely tour of all the fruit trees she’s planted. The little cabin we stayed in was cozy and we loved having breakfast out in the deck. If we’re ever in the area again, we’d stay at Wendy’s in a heartbeat.
