Welcome to Stone & Sky Homestead, a secluded off-grid retreat tucked into the raw lava landscapes of Kaʻū on Hawaiʻi Island. This is a place for quiet mornings, star-filled skies, creative reset, and connection to the elemental beauty of the land itself. Wind moves through the grasses, lava fields stretch toward the horizon, and the nights are dark enough to see the Milky Way overhead. The experience here is intentionally simple, grounded, and deeply tied to the rhythms of the island. The property is home to small off-grid structures, open skies, local birds, and a slow-living atmosphere designed for rest, reflection, art, writing, exploration, and adventure. Guests are within driving distance of South Point, Green Sands Beach trail access, Punaluʻu Black Sand Beach, Kaʻū coffee country, and Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park. Your stay supports a working homestead lifestyle centered around sustainability, creativity, and respectful relationship with the land. Expect a more rustic and authentic Hawaiʻi experience rather than a polished resort environment. Whether you’re here to explore the island, unplug for a few days, watch the stars, drink coffee in the morning breeze, or simply experience the quiet of the lava fields, Stone & Sky Homestead offers space to breathe and reconnect.Off-Grid Cabin overlooking South Point, Kaʻū Stay in a quiet, off-grid cabin set on 3 acres of an old lava flow field with wide-open views toward South Point and the Kaʻū coastline. This is a raw, elemental landscape — big skies, steady wind, dark nights, and deep quiet — ideal for guests looking to slow down and experience a less developed side of Hawaiʻi Island. The cabin is simple, comfortable, and intentionally uncluttered. It’s best suited for those who appreciate nature, privacy, and a strong sense of place rather than resort-style amenities. The Cabin: Sleeps 1–2 (two twin beds with basic bedding) Insulated and weather-tight Power and Wi-Fi (off-grid systems; mindful use appreciated) Warm, simple lighting. Kitchenette & Bathroom: Kitchenette with sink, propane stovetop, fridge/freezer, and basic cookware. Private shower and eco-friendly composting toilet. Handwashing available in the cabin. The Setting: The cabin sits on a rugged lava landscape shaped by volcanic history and coastal weather. The ground is uneven and natural, and the wind can be strong at times. The area is intentionally left undeveloped rather than landscaped. What you’ll experience: Expansive views toward South Point and the ocean Quiet days and very dark, star-filled nights Open space and cozy privacy A grounded, rural Kaʻū environment Location: Despite the quiet setting, you’re well located for exploring the south end of the island. Nearby highlights include Punalu'u Black sand and Green Sand beaches, South Point cliffs, local coffee farms, and lava tube caves. Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park is about an hour away. Many guests explore during the day and return in the evening to unwind, cook, and take in the changing light across the lava and ocean horizon. Good to Know: This is an off-grid stay, not a resort Water and power are finite — please use thoughtfully Terrain is uneven; sturdy footwear is recommended Wind, weather, and quiet nights are part of the experience Best For Couples or solo travelers Nature lovers, artists, writers, and photographers Guests seeking quiet, simplicity, and space.
