Hawaiian Rainforest Glamping

Hawaiian Rainforest Glamping is located in Fern Forest, a rural neighborhood, on three verdant acres of ōhiʻa lehua trees, tree ferns, banana plants, and fruit trees at 2100 feet. The yurt has its own bathroom with a flushing toilet and vanity sink. There is a large communal kitchen (a 16' x 16' kitchen cabin) that you can use free of charge, and an outdoor shower with hot water. In the summer, the greenhouse in the fenced paddock is full of vegetables. Free-ranging ducks and chickens supply eggs. There is an outdoor lounge area complete with a six-person picnic table, four hammocks, a fire pit, and torches. Please note that the owner lives on the premises in their own cabin, 20 feet away from the yurt. The homestead is run by 6,000 watt solar-power and a rain-catchment system with a 4,500 gallon water tank.
This is a peaceful place to relax and recuperate from the din of city life. There are no street lights, just the stars and moon after sunset. On a clear night, the sky is full of stars. It rains often in this area and the sound is soothing to fall asleep to.

Several places of interest are within a 1.5 hour drive. Volcano National Park is only 15 minutes away by car; Punaluʻu black sand beach is 30 minutes; Ka Lae (South Point) is about 1.5 hours; and Hoʻokena Bay is about two hours.

Located in the Highlands of Waiakea Uka, at 1000-foot elevation, we are high above the humidity of Hilo. The glamping tent is situated right between the meadow and the forest. It's mostly peaceful here and it feels like being in the country. You can walk into the woods or up the road. There are no street lights, so there is a great view of the night sky. It's a great place for a Retreat, a Writer's Retreat, a Vision Quest or a Medicine Journey.

However, it's important to note that the Hamakua Coast is known for its lively rooster population. One of the highlights of our farm is the stunning waterfall located near the property. Guests are welcome to hike down to this natural wonder and take a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear swimming holes. It's an experience you won't want to miss.
For your convenience, we offer an outdoor shower and a flushing toilet for our campers. We understand that comfort and cleanliness are important, even when enjoying the great outdoors.

Fire pit with a grill for cooking, benches, and a beautiful new composting toilet structure made from local albizia, ohia, and guava wood. Mostly hot and sunny, with occasional rain. Lava covered the site on 5 September 1990, after more than a thousand years of peaceful fertility. The flow met the Hakuma horst and was diverted north, filling the village of Kalapana and the beautiful Kaimu Bay. Lava continued to flow in the area for another 20 years, until 2011. We are restoring the fertility by bringing in mulch and soil and planting coconuts, mango trees, moringa, plumeria, figs, dragonfruits, and more.
Near the camp sites we've recently constructed a house out of local materials; it provides some shelter from the nearly constant trade winds. Premium strawberry guava BBQ firewood can be purchased by prior arrangement. There's a shower with cold water; it doesn't get very cold!
1 mile from ocean cliffs, 2 miles to a basic grocery store and a great weekly farmers market, 2.5 miles to Volcanoes National Park, 5 miles to Kehena public black sand beach at the base of the cliffs, with a community drum circle on Sundays. Welcome to the wild coast of South Puna!
Optionally produce from our nearby rainforest garden. We may offer guided tours to local historical caves and bicycle trips to hidden beaches deep inside Volcanoes National Park.

It's worth it to pay a little extra for camping here on the Big Island
The state ones are overcrowded booked dirty no facilities unsecured alot of them people wandering around in the middle of the night
You will thank yourself for paying a little extra for peace and privacy you will have your own acres of space with complete privacy will bunch of plants trees and birds which is rare
I've been a resident since 2015 and have explored alot of it and like to help people out exploring and on a budget since rooms here are very expensive
We also have 4RENT legal insured camping suv
We are legal insured llc. company also a guide extra portable power read below... we are adding 4RENT bikes and ebikes for rent that get you around for up to 70 miles with people that dont want pay for insurance etc..... we are close to everything on the Hilo Pahoa side...so you could bike or bus or both to alot of beaches and attractions right near me and save
We can set up a tent for you also or book anything from entertainment to dinning etc.
We are only a mile from a great restaurant open all day and night a gas station and nice deli grocery store so if you want just chill in nature walk or bike and not blow alot money it's a great place to meditate
BY CAR about 10 mins to Hilo 5 mins to Pahoa 25 mins to Volcano and numerous beaches and pools all close by....also right down the street is the world's longest lava tube for cave people

It's a unique spot where the jungle of the ocean starts to rise up to the mountains with tons of birds ferns wildlife if you want kindof ruff it and be next to everything this is it
So it has a mix of hawaiian ferns wild orchids many varieties and ohia tress at certain times of the year you will be surrounded by millions of flowers take some for free or guavas in season
The climate is nice because it cools a little at night being at almost 1000 feet and in the day can be perfect
It's in a nice neighborhood and easy access... the road is great to the highways beaches

It is close to Pahoa, Uncle Robert’s Night Market, Kalani resort and many magical and hidden treasures of the newest land on earth!Since a spectacular and dramatic trip to big Island a few years back I have had hot lava, the sweetness of the people, food and the power of Maunakea running through my veins. Equally charming and magical was my incredible host Jade who has made an off the grid home on the lava in Kalapana Gardens. If she is not overbooked, I highly recommend staying with her for at least a couple of nights. If you stay on my adjacent lava plot in my Eurovan or in your tent or vehicle then you may be able to make arrangements to attend one of her deeply soulful ceremonies.
