As a full-time host and tour guide, I take pride is giving people the best experiences possible while on island! Our properties are cozy and provide everything you will need being your home away from home while on vacation! Learn more about this land: The ultimate local experience while providing comforts to make your stay enjoyable. Live in traditional Hawaiian style homes! For guests unfamiliar with the Big Island, it is not like the other islands people travel to. If Oahu is more Americanized, the Big Island is still more of a Polynesian Island. Our property allows guests to enjoy a genuine local experience. The cabins have power and endless hot water. All water on property is rainwater harvested from our roof! At night your ears will be greeted by the forest with sounds of coqui frogs. Many people love them 🐸 Please search for Bathing Suits and Rain Boots on YouTube to find a video of what our property sounds like at night. Our channel also features videos of tours we offer. More to be uploaded, check back often! Our tours include off the beaten path adventures ranging from sunrises and geothermal Kings baths, to prawn hunting to hikes that lead to waterfalls! They are all local gems that you will not find online or offered by any other tour guide agency. We are updating our ig @bathingsuitsandrainboots regularly with footage from adventures as well! Beach gear such as surf boards, boogie boards and snorkel gear is also available. There is a detailed welcome packet with a variety of mostly free but some paid must see/do activities on the island! There are a total of 4 cabins on the one acre lot. The owners are on property, other guests may or may not be here as well. There is a dog Valentine, two outdoor cats named Ghost and Tomi, and chickens/ducks. Each cabin has a queen mattress. We rent both cabins out for larger groups. Jungle massages are available on site starting at $100 for the hour. Please note the main image capturing a lava cliff sunrise is not visible from the cabin. It is about a 30-40 minute drive from us 🌊 ☀️ 🌋 We are at 1880ft elevation so it can get chilly at night. Winters are also rainy season so if traveling to the Big Island in the winter, I suggest some light layers for warmth, a raincoat and rain boots.

But Hawaii is also home to loads of different ecosystems, including lush, tropical jungles abounding with wildlife. Get the best of both worlds at Kalōpā State Recreation Area, whose green forests sit right on the edge of Hawaii’s classic tropical beaches. A picturesque trail—the Kalōpā Nature Trail—winds through the park and showcases some of the Big Island’s incredible diversity of flora and fauna. This is also the perfect spot to be if you’re looking to escape the hot island heat, as much of the trail and the park is shaded by a gorgeous canopy of trees. We are an off-grid intentional community in the rainforest of East Hawaii in the Puna district. We have acres of tropical fruit trees, clumping bamboo, bananas, and other plants. We have about 20 different tropical breeze houses, which are hand-made, screened-in structures nestled into the forest along walking trails. We're at the end of a 3-mile-long unpaved road, so we are very secluded and have little outside noise. We are not a bed-and-breakfast, we are not a farm, we are not a place looking to rent cabins — we are an intentional community and Permaculture homestead whose primary mission is healing, activating, and living our holistic hearts in a multigenerational, bonded community. We are growing a holistic culture and creating a beautiful world together. We want to share this place and find partners in our mission/play/joy (both short and long term). We have a men's dorm and a women's dorm and breezehouses for couples and families. We do allow camping, but we rarely have it happen. People usually sleep in our buildings. We have two communal kitchens, a living room, dining rooms, communal showers, and lots of space to explore nature.

Welcome to Pono Malu Way Farm, a simple off-grid rainforest stay tucked into the lush jungle of lower Puna on Hawaii Island. "Pono" reflects balance and right relationship, and that is the spirit of this place. This space is designed for travelers seeking nature, quiet, simplicity, and a more grounded experience away from resorts and busy tourist areas. The structure is a large screened greenhouse with a tin roof that allows you to fully experience the sounds, rain, breeze, and atmosphere of the tropical rainforest around you. The site includes running water, a basic kitchen setup, a camp cook stove, a propane griddle, one solar-powered light, limited solar electricity with a single outlet for small devices, and a separate shower house with hot water. Sleeping arrangements can accommodate up to 10 guests, with two queen-size beds, six cots, and a sizable couch. The space works well for families, couples, and small groups comfortable with shared, rustic, off-grid living. This is not a luxury accommodation or polished glamping resort. It is a raw and evolving eco-homestead surrounded by jungle, lava rock, tropical plants, and the living rhythms of the rainforest. Guests should expect mud, rain, insects, coqui frogs, changing weather, and the occasional gecko visitor. Neighboring homes are nearby, as is common in this part of Puna. Our family's vision is to thoughtfully develop this land into a functional off-grid homestead with fruit trees, gardens, eco-friendly systems, additional structures, and improved ecological infrastructure over time. Hosting guests helps support this ongoing development. We welcome respectful travelers who appreciate nature, sustainability, homesteading, and slower living. If you're looking for a peaceful jungle experience and enjoy simple off-grid living, we would love to host you at Pono Malu Way Farm.

Off-Grid Oasis Retreat in the Heart of Puna, Hawai‘i Escape to a unique, off-grid oasis nestled on a tropical fruit farm beside one of Hawai‘i’s great volcanoes. Experience the tranquil magic that is East Hawaii. Pulelehua is Hawaiian for butterfly and they are plentiful here thanks to their host plants that thrive in our gardens. Leave your laptop at home and come take a soak in the geothermal hot ponds at the end of our road. Just off the scenic Red Road one mile up from the ocean. If you love East Hawaii and eco-friendly accommodations, you'll love our off-grid location! We have maintained a 5-star review and guest favorite rating on another site, but due to the national boycott concerns we have decided to try hosting on this platform. We can provide past reviews upon request. The cabin is a single room with a queen sized bed. There is a covered outdoor minimalist kitchen that includes a refrigerator, propane camp stove, hot and cold sink, filtered bottled water and outdoor seating. Please note that we are off-grid, so there is no microwave oven. Attached to the cabin is an outdoor hot shower on one side and a private composting toilet on the other side. Solar provides electricity for the refrigerator and lamp only. There are no outlets available for high energy use such as hairdryers. Our house is approximately 200ft away with palms and mango trees growing between our house and the cabin. Electric fencing surrounds the entire driveway and building compound. It keeps our local feral pig friends from destroying our driveway and garden area. Parking is provided next to the cabin.
