Welcome to Pono Malu Way Farm, a simple off-grid rainforest stay tucked into the lush jungle of lower Puna on Hawaii Island. "Pono" reflects balance and right relationship, and that is the spirit of this place. This space is designed for travelers seeking nature, quiet, simplicity, and a more grounded experience away from resorts and busy tourist areas. The structure is a large screened greenhouse with a tin roof that allows you to fully experience the sounds, rain, breeze, and atmosphere of the tropical rainforest around you. The site includes running water, a basic kitchen setup, a camp cook stove, a propane griddle, one solar-powered light, limited solar electricity with a single outlet for small devices, and a separate shower house with hot water. Sleeping arrangements can accommodate up to 10 guests, with two queen-size beds, six cots, and a sizable couch. The space works well for families, couples, and small groups comfortable with shared, rustic, off-grid living. This is not a luxury accommodation or polished glamping resort. It is a raw and evolving eco-homestead surrounded by jungle, lava rock, tropical plants, and the living rhythms of the rainforest. Guests should expect mud, rain, insects, coqui frogs, changing weather, and the occasional gecko visitor. Neighboring homes are nearby, as is common in this part of Puna. Our family's vision is to thoughtfully develop this land into a functional off-grid homestead with fruit trees, gardens, eco-friendly systems, additional structures, and improved ecological infrastructure over time. Hosting guests helps support this ongoing development. We welcome respectful travelers who appreciate nature, sustainability, homesteading, and slower living. If you're looking for a peaceful jungle experience and enjoy simple off-grid living, we would love to host you at Pono Malu Way Farm.Space, Access, and Guest Use Guests at Pono Malu Way Farm have access to a private, rustic 3-acre rainforest property in lower Puna centered around a large screened greenhouse structure. The greenhouse sits near the middle of the narrow parcel and serves as the primary living and sleeping area. The usable guest space is primarily the interior of the greenhouse and the immediate surrounding area directly adjacent to it. The property is intentionally unmanicured rainforest with natural jungle terrain, and guests should not expect open lawns, landscaped grounds, or defined recreational areas. Due to the narrow “spaghetti lot” layout and dense vegetation, wandering widely side-to-side across the property is not recommended. The rear portion of the land is undeveloped, uneven, and difficult to navigate, and guests are encouraged to remain within the main cleared and established areas around the structure. Amenities are clustered close to the main greenhouse for convenience. Running water, cooking facilities, and solar-powered electricity are accessed directly within or immediately adjacent to the structure. A separate shower house with hot water is located on-site and accessed via a short, clearly defined walking path. There is a single maintained path connecting the main structure to the shower house. Otherwise, movement through the property is informal and natural rather than trail-based. Access to the property is straightforward from a rural road in lower Puna. Parking is near the entrance, and guests walk a short distance to the main structure upon arrival. The surrounding road area is rural and suitable for walking, offering a quiet jungle neighborhood setting. Activities are self-directed and nature-based. Guests typically spend time relaxing inside the greenhouse space, listening to the rainforest environment, and exploring the immediate surroundings in a mindful, low-impact way. Nearby, lower Puna offers ocean access, lava landscapes, and local points of interest within a short drive. This is a rustic, evolving rainforest homestead designed for simple living and quiet experience in a natural jungle setting rather than structured outdoor recreation or manicured grounds.

Firepit. there is a small firepit provided and sticks may be gathered for its enjoyment. Local hardware stores sell small bundled campfire wood as well.

Toilet / Waste Notice This is a primitive off-grid rainforest stay and no restroom or toilet facility is provided on-site. Guests are required to bring their own self-contained portable camping toilet system and are fully responsible for all waste containment and removal off-site. All human waste and related materials must be packed out and disposed of properly off-property in accordance with leave-no-trace practices. Nothing may be buried or left on the land. This is a natural, undeveloped rainforest environment. Guests should plan accordingly and come fully prepared for off-grid conditions.

Please clean up after your pet if a mess is made in open/ common areas inside or out. *Note: there are wild pigs that come by from time to time. if your pet is prone to chase or not be able to contain themselves at their presence, this may not be the place for you

Stovetop or hot plate, cookware, cooking utensils, dishware, cutlery, sink or other dishwashing station. Sleeping Arrangements The main sleeping space is located inside a large screened greenhouse structure at the center of the property. There are two queen-size beds provided for guest use. Basic bedding (fitted sheets and pillow coverings) is included for the queen beds. In addition, there are camp cots available for extra guests. These cots are simple sleeping platforms and do not include bedding. Guests using cots must bring their own sleeping bags, blankets, or sleeping pads. Guests who prefer heavier blankets or extra warmth layers for the queen beds are also encouraged to bring their own, as rainforest temperatures and humidity can vary. This is a rustic, off-grid accommodation, and sleeping arrangements are functional and simple rather than hotel-style furnished.
