Our property is in a secluded neighborhood, a 4.2 mile drive in from the main road (Highway 11). The drive in or out should take about 10-15 minutes. Volcano National Park is 19 miles from our home and will take about 30 minutes to drive. We are 18 miles from Hilo Farmers Market/downtown Hilo and again should take about 30 minutes. Pahoa area is 20 miles from us and just past a 30 minute drive. Tour the island during the day and come back to a spacious, private courtyard campsite where you can experience the beauty and sounds of our forest sanctuary.

Yip Camp provides a setting that promotes immersion in nature. We are a commercial orchid farm starting the homestead 8 years ago. Lava caused us to evacuate 2 years ago before it stopped a mile above the farm and Malama Market. We have a lava tube on the property you can explore. It’s so tall in some places, you can drive a school bus through. Good to bring headlamps if you're interested in this and just for walking around the farm when there is no moon! We offer basic campsites with picnic tables, drinking water, a fire pit, a composting toilet, and a pop-up tent in case it rains. You will be camping on soft grass amongst giant Ironwood and eucalyptus trees while listening to the soft sounds of the creek below. Take a swim in the spring-fed waterfall swimming hole and relax by the fire pit at night.

We’re blessed to be located on the rainy side of the island because of all the abundance and greenery the rain brings. That being said, please be prepared for the weather. Hipcamp’s best, most temperate, comfortable weather on the island. Parking is available outside the gate, with additional space inside a locked double-wide gate for secure access. Room for a van, truck, RV, or car (no hookups). A few extra spots may be available if you need multiple—just let me know. The property sits under a canopy of rainbow eucalyptus on 3 quiet acres, backed by a Hawaiian reserve.
The cabin is a tranquil 2-bedroom, semi–open-air space with a loft. The loft is accessed by small stairs and is not disability accessible. The other sleeping area is open with new flooring—please bring a sleep pad. There is no bed at this time. An attached open-air kitchen area includes water collection and basic food utensils.
Message me with any needs or questions, and I’ll do my best to help. There’s also a solar setup you can connect to if you have a solar generator. The food forest and garden areas are young and still establishing. If you hike, stay aware of your surroundings—there are lava tubes and uneven drops. The trails are safe if you choose to explore.
You’ll also find the biggest ʻōhiʻa I’ve ever seen near the corner of the cabin. I value respect and privacy, and you can count on that from me. If you happen to notice my security camera, it is not active. While you’re here, it’s your place—your liberty and peace matter most. Make yourself at home and enjoy.

We are a 2 year old food forest/ sustainable farm located in Mountain View, Hawai'i at 1800ft. So far we have about 25 fruit trees growing along with a vegetable bed, herbs, and numerous flowers and ornamentals. Guests are welcome to any food growing that is ready to harvest. We are located within a 20-25 minute drive from Volcanoes National Park. Two of the best restaurants on the island (Wyatt's Place and Da Beans Greens Cafe) are located within a 12 minute drive, and the Mountain View post office and water spigots are located within a 8 minute drive.
This is an ideal site for car campers and vanlifers. You are welcome to bring your own tent and pitch it anywhere on the open grass area as well.
We have an outdoor kitchen with a 2 burner stove, fridge, copper drinking water container, and a 250 gallon water tank for washing dishes. We have a professionally built outhouse style Humanure Composting toilet.
We are less than 200 feet from the paved road so any vehicle will be able to drive straight onto the land. The land is located in a very safe part of the neighborhood with great neighbors closeby (but not too close)!

Mauna Loa Camp is about 20 minutes from Hilo on "The Big Island" (Hawaii) in the Hawaiian Acres neighborhood. The actual address is 16-1648 Ooaa Rd. (Road #6), Kurtistown, HI 96760. It’s a 3-acre parcel that’s entirely fenced, with wide open areas to set up wherever you like.
We planted lots of fruit trees in 2025 and 2026, and we expect to harvest fruit in 1–3 years. The air is fresh, and the stars are amazing — like I’ve never seen before. I also love the Coqui Frog songs at night.
This location is ideal for taking day trips anywhere on the island (about 2 hours to Kona). The waterfront in Hilo is unique, with calm pools of water set well inland from the ocean. Wild orchids and flowers grow at the camp.
You can pick wild strawberry guava or hit the local markets for incredible fruits like lychee, longan, rambutan, soursop, oranges, tangerines, avocado, starfruit, lemon, macadamia nuts, pineapple, and banana. All of these are available at markets when in season, and in a few years, some can be picked right at Mauna Loa Camp (perhaps by 2028).
I live in the Rochester, NY area and we operate four camps in NY, one in SC, and one in FL. Our sites are rustic — no electricity, no water — just you and nature. We provide portable toilets and/or a porta-potty, and there is a public shower at a park in Hilo. Our goal is to keep our camps simple and in harmony with nature.
We expect respect for our land and neighbors, with absolutely zero trash left behind (carry in, carry out). You will love it — everyone does. Hawaii is a special place, and we feel so lucky to be part of it!
We rent to only one group at a time, ensuring total privacy. My friends and neighbors in the area are wonderful assets, making it a lovely place to be one with our planet and nature.

The Environment
Located at 2,200 feet elevation in the Puna rainforest, it is very wet here but never cold or very hot. Access is easy: take Highway 11, follow the pavement for two miles, and then continue on improved gravel for a 1/4 mile. A gated private road leads to the camping spots.

Pets: Dogs and pets are welcome but cannot run loose.
Hunting & Foraging: There is great hunting for wild boar on the property. Lots of wild fruit and berries are free for the picking.
Quiet & Conduct: This is a super quiet location away from neighbors. No open fires are allowed, and no excessive alcohol consumption is permitted.
The owner lives on-site with two dogs. Come explore my place and experience the local vibes.

Absolute stunning experience from start to finish. Although we were on a unique landscape, our experience remained intimate and beautiful. The amenities were gracious and the views were outstanding. We camped for 2 nights. I recorded two lengthy recordings of nature which will help me sleep and remind us of a beautiful moment on our trip. I highly recommend this place for anyone who wants to camp. The dogs didn't roam free all the time and the occasional bark at the strangers ( us ) wasn't a problem. Maybe happened like twice and they were so sweet. Super smart dogs, the shower was great, they had an indoor and outdoor shower. Restroom, and pool / hot tub. So gracious 🫶 thank you!!

We loved our time at Mae’s farm so much we booked agin for a second night! What a beautiful location. Everything was clean, organized and as described but even more beautiful than we imagined! Mae had firewood for sale for us which was also a nice treat and made enjoying our fire very easy! Her dog Nobbs is the sweetest and we loved his visits when he would come to check on us. ❤️ Thanks for every thing Mae! We will be back!

We stayed in a campervan on the old tennis court. It was the perfect place to camp in a van, level, no bugs, close to amenities and an ocean view. Picking macadamia nuts and swimming in the pool were highlights for the kids. The property is in a great area with lots of activities. Highly recommend.

Best Hipcamp on Hawaii. Washer/dryers $7/load. Hot showers, real flush toilets, outdoor kitchen area with appliances for Hipcampers. In a quiet neighborhood on a flat grassy surface. The staff were all so nice!

Private camping spot with amazing views and a hot shower! The drive up to the farm was on a well maintained road. We were in a class B motorhome.

Absolutely blew us away. We could see the allure from the photos and posting, upon arriving it was absolutely perfect. She provided a lot of amenities for anyone that would be there, the bathroom was excellent, and the fire pit provided made the nights even better. We will be back without question and cannot wait!

It was a great place to spend the night in our camper. The kids loved the pool and the hot tub was nice as it was windy and chilly. Shawn was helpful and we enjoyed fresh bananas, grapefruit and lemons grown on the property.
