Welcome to the San Luis Valley; the highest Alpine Valley in the world! This campground sits close to the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo mountain range. You can also see the San Juan mountain range to the east in the distance. San Juans are part of the NW rim of the Continental Divide. Great Sand Dunes are visible from every site. With unlimited mountain views, beautiful starry night skies, come see the Milky Way, Eclipse, Meteor showers!!! Previously known as High Desert Ranch Campground, this land was originally part of a large ranch in the 1980s. The main ranch is still up and running but this parcel was used for many purposes over the years. In 2021, we were featured in USA Todays Ten Best for star gazing! My property has 360 degree mountains views with the Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range as our back yard. Nearby you can find many different trail systems for all kinds of outdoor enthusiasts. From hiking to jeeping, ATV or dirt biking and equestrians - you can find it all! You will be surrounded by ranch land and state land with Wildlife Refuge just two miles away. Accommodations for those with livestock, just make sure you chat in advance your initial message. Close to BLM, and National Forest as well as 3 hot springs within 20 miles and the Great Sand Dunes. We are still under construction and making changes often so bear with us while we continue to add and change things for the better!

Greenhorn Mountain Mastery

A nice area for you to pull a small to large RV, 5th wheel, tent camp, car camp, this is a great place that is quiet and will have you gazing up at the stars. Not to far off of I-25 if you need to take a rest for the night before heading on your way. The entrance is a bit bumpy but a Prius can make it through, so you should be solid, just go slow. Graneros Gorge is on your right and it is definitely a site to grab photos, just don't get to close to the edge and watch for rattle snakes. No facilities, just pack in and pack out. Lots of space so spread out and pitch a tent, bring the dogs, and four-wheelers, and enjoy some Colorado sunshine and fresh air. Colorado City/Rye exit has all your necessities, Dispensary, restaurant, and a ways down, is an ACE Hardware, Liquor store, and a small grocery store. It may be a bit hard to find if you are coming in after dark. However, you will get off on exit 71, follow the sign that says Graneros RD and take a left/North and follow it to the payment ends, you will make a sharp right turn, over a cattle guard. The road splits in a few directions but stay strait and the road curves around for about a quarter mile, then you'll see a T in the road, take a right and go about half a mile and you'll see the road going strait and you want to stay right until it dead ends. Area is on the right, but you can camp anywhere. If It is a bit muddy since its been raining and road is kinda rough when you first come in but smooths out. Stay on the high sides with your vehicle.

With just one two fenced private acres, you can enjoy a peaceful weekend in nature. It's a perfect getaway any time of year. You are a five minute walk from Rye Mountain park with its old school playground, plentiful hiking trails, and splash in the creek. Greenhorn and Bartlett trailheads are both nearby, which will take you to the top of the Greenhorn Mountain. You'll take an immediate right into the driveway off of 165. When you reach the top the hill turn right and you will have your choice of several campsites on the east end of the hill. Fires might be allowed. Check https://www.pueblo.us/2602/Fire-Restrictions If fires are allowed, they must be in campfire circles ONLY! Dead wood on the property is OK to burn. Or Firewood is available to purchase nearby in Colorado City. Do not burn trash please. All trash needs to be packed out. Camp ground #1 has a gravel area for an RV/camper/tent and a Mulch/grass area for tent camping. As well as a fire ring and a potable water barrel (May through September) on the site. Bring your own toilet for now. Rustic camping is also available to the East of Camp 1. Use of firearms is strictly prohibited. No fireworks are allowed. Quiet time is after 10:00 p.m. Please be respectful of neighboring properties. A Colorado Fishing License can be purchased at the gift shop and is required to fish at the lake. Personal paddleboards, kayaks, and small non-motorized boats are welcome. * Bishop’s Castle: Located 30 minutes up Highway 165, Bishop’s Castle is a stone and iron fortress nestled in the trees of the San Isabel National Forest. Visitors are always welcome free of charge, and the castle itself is always open. * Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve:  One of the two tallest sand dunes in North America is located two hours west of Colorado City. Twin Bridges Campground

Camp alongside the Arkansas River (considered Gold Medal for the quality of trout per acre) with white water rafting May-Labor Day. We accommodate tents, vans, or RV's or we can provide an RV or tent. Restrooms and showers are easily accessible. We also have camping by the pond with easy access to the river. We offer bank fishing, fly fishing lessons, and guided fishing on the property or will arrange guided tours for fishing the Arkansas River, white water rafting, horseback riding, or having a zipline adventure. When fishing from the bank, no lures or or treble hooks and catch and release only. Pictures welcome! There are several Colorado mountains (fourteeners) to hike/climb in the vicinity. We have 4 acres on the waters of the Arkansas River. Our pond will be accessible next year. We will create the adventure you deserve - from guided fishing, fly fishing lessons, (children and adults) or fishing from the bank. Zipline, jeep, and horseback tours are not far from the campground. We can recommend several white water rafting companies based on your specific needs.

Mountains, Trains, and Sand Dunes

As the Scenic Passenger Train is heard in the distance you'll look up towards Mount Blanca and imagine your next adventure living among the wildflowers of this High Desert Mountain Hipcamp. After recovering from a wildfire, the ancient sage brushes that had previously made the land harsh and unwelcoming are gone, replaced with an abundance of grasses and wildflowers. Open Land as far as you can go to the East you'll follow the Coyote canyon to high mountain lookouts. There are old logging maintenance roads you should take advantage of. Hike, Bike or Motor around the local area. Fort Garland and Blanca have a community center (pool), septic dump and water fill and can provide groceries. The Great Sand dunes are about 45 minutes away. The Sand Dunes swimming pool, fed by a very hot artisan well is about an hour away. Mountain Home Lake is also within 1/2 an hour or so for fishing/water sports with a nice boat ramp. Escape from light pollution like never before, a clear night sky will make the whole trip worthwhile! Lots of wild life and you will most likely see some deer, hear the coyotes, and count the different colors of the humming birds. You can book a train ride out of Alamosa, and visit the local historic towns. The views will make it hard to leave the campsite, but there are tons of experiences and things to do in the area so make sure to do some research before you arrive. The weather and wind can be unpredictable in the mountains, so be prepared. There are two entrances onto the property, one at the bottom and one at the top. You can avoid some wind by camping near Lewis-Smith Rd at the lowest part of the land. Also, the site can accommodate large trailers/RV's but just make sure to plan your entrance/exit carefully and don't go to far down the hills. Just choose a wise spot to park if in a big rig. There are some small tires around that you can use to sit on or if you dig a hole that you fill in before leaving you can make a temporary toilet. Make sure to haul out all your trash and leave the site cleaner than it was when you arrived and respect the land. If you do come across a mess from the previous camper and clean it up, just let us know and we will give you a refund for the night. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

The Great sand dunes national park is within 1hr. The San Luis valley offers, hiking, mountain biking, ATV trail, Horse back riding, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, rafting, refuges for wildlife watching.

Mono Loco Flats

Mono Loco Flats sits on a mesa nestled in the Sangre de Cristo mountains near Sangre De Cristo creek and La Veta Pass. This Mesa is a perfect homebase to explore. Growing up in Southern Colorado I was fortunate to explore this zone as a kid and I feel so fortunate that I can share Mono Loco Flats with others. The Great Sand Dunes National Park and Zapata Falls are 25 minutes from Mono Loco Flats. Learn more about this land: Set up camp and enjoy sweeping views of Mount Blanca and the surrounding Sangre De Cristo mountain range.The 15 acre camp is situated just off highway 160 for easy access. Mono Loco Flats is an excellent home base for exploring the San Luis Valley, just 25 minutes from The Great Sand Dunes National Park and Zapata Falls. Sangre de Cristo Creek is a short hike or drive to the south. Fort Garland is a 5 minute drive. This Mesa provides 360 panoramic views with epic sunrise and sunset views of Mount Blanca. Wild horses and prong horned antelope may wander the Mesa as you enjoy your camp. The natural beauty of these three campsites are worth protecting so please if you pack it in, pack it out. Several roundabouts exist for turning around large vehicles. RV sites are pull through. For digital Nomads, Cell phone and satellite service is good here. You'll take an immediate right into the driveway off of 165. When you reach the top the hill turn right and you will have your choice of several campsites on the east end of the hill. Mountains, Trains, and Sand Dunes

As the Scenic Passenger Train is heard in the distance you'll look up towards Mount Blanca and imagine your next adventure living among the wildflowers of this High Desert Mountain Hipcamp. After recovering from a wildfire, the ancient sage brushes that had previously made the land harsh and unwelcoming are gone, replaced with an abundance of grasses and wildflowers. Open Land as far as you can go to the East you'll follow the Coyote canyon to high mountain lookouts. There are old logging maintenance roads you should take advantage of. Hike, Bike or Motor around the local area. Fort Garland and Blanca have a community center (pool), septic dump and water fill and can provide groceries. The Great Sand dunes are about 45 minutes away. The Sand Dunes swimming pool, fed by a very hot artisan well is about an hour away. Mountain Home Lake is also within 1/2 an hour or so for fishing/water sports with a nice boat ramp. Escape from light pollution like never before, a clear night sky will make the whole trip worthwhile! Lots of wild life and you will most likely see some deer, hear the coyotes, and count the different colors of the humming birds. You can book a train ride out of Alamosa, and visit the local historic towns. The views will make it hard to leave the campsite, but there are tons of experiences and things to do in the area so make sure to do some research before you arrive. The weather and wind can be unpredictable in the mountains, so be prepared. There are two entrances onto the property, one at the bottom and one at the top. You can avoid some wind by camping near Lewis-Smith Rd at the lowest part of the land. Also, the site can accommodate large trailers/RV's but just make sure to plan your entrance/exit carefully and don't go to far down the hills. Just choose a wise spot to park if in a big rig. There are some small tires around that you can use to sit on or if you dig a hole that you fill in before leaving you can make a temporary toilet. Make sure to haul out all your trash and leave the site cleaner than it was when you arrived and respect the land. If you do come across a mess from the previous camper and clean it up, just let us know and we will give you a refund for the night. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

My property has 360 degree mountains views with the Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range as our back yard. Nearby you can find many different trail systems for all kinds of outdoor enthusiasts. From hiking to jeeping, ATV or dirt biking and equestrians - you can find it all! You will be surrounded by ranch land and state land with Wildlife Refuge just two miles away. Accommodations for those with livestock, just make sure you chat in advance your initial message. Close to BLM, and National Forest as well as 3 hot springs within 20 miles and the Great Sand Dunes. Greenhorn Mountain Mastery

A nice area for you to pull a small to large RV, 5th wheel, tent camp, car camp, this is a great place that is quiet and will have you gazing up at the stars. Not to far off of I-25 if you need to take a rest for the night before heading on your way. The entrance is a bit bumpy but a Prius can make it through, so you should be solid, just go slow. Graneros Gorge is on your right and it is definitely a site to grab photos, just don't get to close to the edge and watch for rattle snakes. No facilities, just pack in and pack out. Lots of space so spread out and pitch a tent, bring the dogs, and four-wheelers, and enjoy some Colorado sunshine and fresh air. Colorado City/Rye exit has all your necessities, Dispensary, restaurant, and a ways down, is an ACE Hardware, Liquor store, and a small grocery store. It may be a bit hard to find if you are coming in after dark. However, you will get off on exit 71, follow the sign that says Graneros RD and take a left/North and follow it to the payment ends, you will make a sharp right turn, over a cattle guard. The road splits in a few directions but stay strait and the road curves around for about a quarter mile, then you'll see a T in the road, take a right and go about half a mile and you'll see the road going strait and you want to stay right until it dead ends. Area is on the right, but you can camp anywhere. If It is a bit muddy since its been raining and road is kinda rough when you first come in but smooths out. Stay on the high sides with your vehicle.
