This is a essentially a private campsite with a million dollar view during the day, and wonderful stargazing at night!
We welcome dogs and don't charge additional fees for you to bring your dog(s) to camp. The park allows dogs into the park BUT NOT ON ANY TRAILS! (Only the national “forests” allow dogs on trails, not national parks.) PLEASE, let us know you are bringing dog(s), when you request to book. We currently have 2 dogs - our boy Chance is a 6yo Husky Doberman mix; and we rescued and are fostering a (approx 3yo) Great Dane, Winston! Unfortunately, we can NOT dog sit your dog(s) while you are in the park having 2 large male dogs in our house. Also you can not leave the dog alone in the campsite.
We are in Three Rivers - the southern Ash Mountain gateway to the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. Our town has some wonderfully unique restaurants, creative shops and even a delicious brewery with seating next to the River!
Our hillside property has great Mountain View’s and the driveway turns directly off of Sierra drive, four miles past the town center (3R post office) and just 2 miles from the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks entrance. There’s even a convenience store a quarter mile away! It's conveniently located and easy to find! You can (seasonally) hear the tranqual sounds, or all out roar of the flowing Kaweah river from across the street.
Sorry, there is NO river access from this campsite. You can go to Slick Rock Recreation area, Lake Kaweah or into the parks to swim, boat, fish and more. Lake Kaweah is about 8 miles away. You drive around it after you top the hill entering Three Rivers.
My wife Elizabeth and I bought our log home in 2015 and we have been dreaming and adding here ever since! Our dog Chance chases all the fun wildlife off of our property. In addition to deer, we have seen fox, bob cats, an Ocelot, too many coyotes, wild turkeys and bear crossing an animal highway along our upper hillside property line. Hawks, hummingbirds, quail, blue birds, woodpeckers and yellow bellied finches are regularly seen here as well. We have had turkey families coming through frequently recently! Owls have been heard; but not seen.
We love our country home and mountain views, and look forward to sharing them with you!

River Ridge Institute, our non-profit, hosts a variety of events for the public.
Please note: you are expected to leave the ranch and kitchen area as you found it, i.e., dishes washed thoroughly and dried and put away, recycling separated from trash, food scraps in compost buckets, sticky marshmallow removed from forks and surfaces (ick!). Thank you.

Free mountain-seasoned oak firewood is included (limited amount), with extra available for purchase. Guests can explore the property with Kawasaki Mule tours (6-seater), and hunting programs are available on request. A fishing pond is being stocked with local fish.

Our business is committed to inclusivity and respect for people from all backgrounds and a safe inclusive space for solo female travelers.
30 minutes from park entrance, 20 min from nearby lakes, 50 minutes from Fresno. 3 hours from SF, 3.5 from LA. We have running hot/cold water for our outdoor shower but NO flushable toilets. We have pit and compost toilets filled with cedar shavings for now!

There are 33 giant sequoia groves in our Southern Region of the Giant Sequoia National Monument, some easily driven to, and some remote. Our ranch is a nature preserve and an education demonstration site, teaching sustainable and regenerative land use practices. River Ridge Institute, our non-profit, hosts a variety of events for the public.
Please note: you are expected to leave the ranch and kitchen area as you found it, i.e., dishes washed thoroughly and dried and put away, recycling separated from trash, food scraps in compost buckets, sticky marshmallow removed from forks and surfaces (ick!). Thank you.
Enjoy: The Kitchen has a 3-burner cooktop, large fridge, microwave, full dishes and utensils and pots and pans with a big washing area in the back. Propane barbecue grill.. There's a River Barn to use as a remote space and Turtle Cove for swimming. Saturday morning Farmer's Market in downtown at 9 AM - Noon.
Ancestral land of the Foothill Yokuts tribe. Homesteaded in 1859, owned by the Negus family from 1909-2000. Barbara and I bought it to save it from subdivision and it's now protected by a Conservation Easement and acts as a community center for the arts, music, poetry, gatherings and outdoor education. Nacho left very clear instructions for us and it was easy to find the campground. We didn't spend a lot of time at the campsite, but it's right next to the lake and could make for a relaxing picnic plan! Campground also had a public restroom (well maintained). Location is convenient with an easy and scenic ride out to Death Valley!

Spencer is a very friendly and welcoming host with a beautiful property. No matter where you set up (tent or yurt) the bathroom and shower facilities are less than a two minute walk.
I booked a tent-site for the night as I was working at FAT and needed to make my way back down to SoCal.. but had time to detour for adventure. The proximity to King’s Canyon NP is less than a 40min ride. The entire tent camping zone is nice and flat. Sites are large and can accommodate large tents or multiple small tents.
It was very quiet when I was there since it’s the off-season, but I expect it can get very lively as it has great amenities. There are also trash and recycle bins very close by for camper use.
Looking forward to staying again - and taking up Spencer’s offer to explore more of his 40+ acre property. I’ll be back to explore with my younger siblings!

This was our first time using Hipcamp and we couldn’t have asked for a better first time site than Thistledew. My husband and I, plus our two dogs, loved the site.
Some highlights:
- It was incredibly spacious, quiet, and accessible.
- We felt comfortable letting our pups off leash due to how open and spacious the site was.
- The water and electricity hookups were a total plus!
- Michael was a great host and incredibly responsive to any and all questions.
- Sequoia/Kings Canyon entrance was a short 20 min drive away, so it was a perfect site for an easy day trip.
- The views were amazing.
Some additional notes for future campers (that are not at all a negative about the site)
- We were guided by our GPS to take Dry Creek Rd. This road is narrow and not suitable for wider cars. There is however a highway that also leads to the road that connects to the site. We recommend the highway for wider vehicles or those who are anxious about narrow roads.
- Yes, there is a road that is next to the site. Cars are incredibly few and far in between. The road is also a good distance from the site so not at all a danger to off-leash pups. The site was secluded, and I wouldn’t let the road be a deterrent in booking.
- Our 2WD vehicle made it just fine to the site.
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our experience and look forward to coming back!

Camp Ikigai is amazing! I booked the birdhouse cabin and have no complaints. The outdoor shower was my favorite especially using it during the night! It has hot water and soap. I think there was a meteor shower because we saw about 20 shooting stars in like an hour. The camp has such an amazing view of the night sky, i havent seen that many stars in so long. In the morning we were able to sit outside and watch the horses. It was very peaceful, I will definitely be visiting again

This was mine and my husband’s first time camping at Lake Olancha and we will definitely be back! The host Nacho was very good at communicating and making us feel welcome and comfortable. We camped at tent site #2 and it had a great view of the lake and mountains along with a picnic table, fire pit and electrical stations on for sides of the tent for charging. It was practically snowing late at night but we were able to plug in our heater so our tent was nice and cozy when we were in there. It was so enjoyable in fact, we originally only booked 2 nights but ended up staying a 3rd night bc we didn’t want to leave lol there is only one public restroom but to our surprise we never had to wait to use it. The water for the shower was hot there was a heater and the toilet paper was always stocked. For the price you really cannot beat the experience and I would definitely recommend to stay here if you’re considering it!

This was mine and my husband’s first time camping at Lake Olancha and we will definitely be back! The host Nacho was extremely good at communicating and making us feel welcome and comfortable. We camped at tent site #2 which has a lake/Mountain View, picnic table, fire pit and two electric stations for charging on both sides of the tent. Even though it was borderline snowing late at night, we were able to use our heater so our tent was very warm and cozy the whole trip. So much so, we originally only booked two nights but ended up booking a 3rd night bc we didn’t want to leave lol there is only one shared restroom but surprisingly we never had an issue with having to wait to use it. The water for the shower was hot and the toilet paper was always stocked. This was a great experience and I would definitely recommend it if you’re considering staying here!

This is a great spot. Very quiet and private. The host was very friendly and showed us around. Would be best enjoyed in the hot summer months when you can make use of the amenities but a great place to rest!

Great location with easy access to Death Valley and Mt Whitney! Beautiful in the morning. Limited restrooms (only 1) and tent sites are a bit small but otherwise great place to crash for a couple nights. Firewood for $10/bundle cash only but there’s a gas station 2 mins away with firewood + bathroom if needed.

This experience was amazing!! They have the sweetest friendliest pets and a beautiful garden to peruse. My bf and I did a tasting and got some fresh focaccia in the morning which was delicious. Definitely a great stay even in the cold months. Bathroom was very clean and large and indoors!

Michael’s campsite was even better than advertised. Very private, expansive, and unbelievable views. My dog loved exploring the area. He was an extremely courteous host, very responsive to messages. It was a perfect location to take day hikes in the nearby parks. I will absolutely be returning
