Its equipped with a water-less, composting toilet, standing shower, towels, beach chairs & umbrella. This unique space is perfect for a romantic getaway for two or a solo adventure. Site 2. Consider our Cielo Loft if more space is what you need. Unwind in our cozy, vintage 2-bedroom, 2-bath loft with garden and eastern corridor views. A larger space with 1 queen size futon and 1 full size bed, full bathrooms, towels, a fully equipped kitchen, coffee maker and a t.v. in the living room. Hangout on the upper landing in the morning with a hot cup of coffee.
From our spot, you can walk through the tree lined neighborhoods to charming cafes, vintage stores, a variety of restaurants and the iconic Oceanside pier, all within a mile!
If its good food you enjoy, our local breweries and restaurants satisfy every appetite. Every Thursday morning brings the charming downtown Farmers Market with art, locally grown fresh fruits and veggies as well as delicious prepared food. Its easy to explore beyond Oceanside too! Our location between San Diego and Los Angeles makes day trips a breeze with the train station just a half-mile away. Easily venture to cities to the south, north and even east for the day via the train. Or for those who prefer to explore by bike, we have hybrid bicycles to rent at a flat rate; explore the beach and neighborhoods on two wheels. D & J Stables is a family run facility created by Dick and Jenny Tynan in 2005. It is located on the Kimzey Family Ranch in San Diego.
Since their passing, the Stables have been managed by their son Scott Tynan.
Our stables offer a clean and quiet place for horse owners to board their precious companions - short or long term - or to serve as a weekend getaway for a person or group of friends/riders.
Each Boarding Corral has walking space, shaded corners, automated water feeders, soft dirt, partially sheltered sides and is in close proximity to a round pen, a small arena (turnout) and is encompassed by a small walking track. No two corrals are close enough to each other for the horses to interact, reducing the likelyhood of mishap from a neighbor.
Each Weekender Corral comes equipped with the same as the above, excepting only the partially sheltered side panels, and are right next to where you will be parking your trailer or camper.
With access to all 38 miles of equestrian trails in the area and less than a 2 mile ride to the beautiful South San Diego beaches, D&J Stables is a prime location for horse men and women everywhere.

Everyone was friendly and easy to talk to. Very relaxed environment. I tent camped for 3 days with my 2 big dogs, which they were allowed to be off leash and they loved that. It was great watching the horses running around in the arena. I was also allowed to go visit the horses in the pens. 🥰
It is country but not far from the city. Very convenient.

Dante’s place is great - we stayed at site 1, which has a nice tree-covered area to camp with 2 picnic tables. Dante makes a number of single and 2-person canoe and kayaks available for checking out the lake and he generously loaned us a fishing pole for the kids to have a super fun experience. We caught and released 3 fish!

We had a great trip! We came with our 3 kids age 7, 4 & 3 months old and it was a blast. We packed fishing poles for the kids and brought bikes. The kids spent all day fishing and out of the kayak or taking quick dips. We were greeted by goats and the rooster wake up call was a fun surprise. Would def recommend this spot for families!

Booked Dante’s Hidden Lake last minute and had a great experience! Beautiful views, easy lake access with lots of fish, and plenty of shade which made camping super comfortable. There’s a fire pit, but definitely bring your own wood (Dante was kind enough to share some extra with us). Great host and a perfect spontaneous camping spot,would definitely come back!

Javier & Belinda were easy to communicate with and the place worked great for our needs. The inside is cozy and it was lovely to have some snacks and water upon arrival! The local Curcuit was so easy and useful for navigating Oceanside without a vehicle. The one thing to note is the traffic noise and the water pressure being pretty minimal for showering. All in all, I would still stay again. Thank you!

We stayed here with our three horses, a living quarters trailer, and our dog, and had a fantastic experience. Yes, this is a working stable, but it doesn’t negatively impact the camping or overall stay.
The grounds are spotless, and both the boarders and horses are friendly, creating a welcoming atmosphere. The owners, Suzanne and Scott, are amazing—helpful, hospitable, and great to deal with.
If you’re traveling with horses, this place is outstanding (10/10):
-Plenty of space for your rig
-Access to an arena, wash stall, and round pen
-Spacious paddocks right behind your trailer so you can easily keep an eye on your horses
-Feed store just down the road
-Direct access to beautiful trails to the beach through Tijuana River Regional Park
-Very dog-friendly
Amenities include a porta toilet and outdoor shower. Laundromat, groceries, and restaurants are all within 5–10 minutes, and there’s lots to explore nearby.
A couple of notes:
-The facility is beside the road, but we had no issues with noise
- You’ll see Border Patrol in the area—they were polite and unobtrusive
-The valley has had significant flooding and is still recovering, so you’ll notice some cleanup and debris, but it doesn’t affect the trails
-The nearby Tijuana River can occasionally cause an odour if the wind shifts, but compared to all the positives, it’s easy to overlook
Overall, a clean, well-run, and thoughtfully set up spot—especially for anyone traveling with horses. Highly recommend.

Weekend Trip to Hidden Lake
Dante was an amazing host! He met us at the top of the driveway and led us to the campsite. Also offered fresh chicken eggs and any thing else we may have forgotten. Our dogs also loved running up and down the muddy lake edge and swimming!
This private housing area and lake are ideal for families. As well as the limited cell signal helps you check-out from reality. If you are looking for a campsite that is more disconnected - an area without housing developments in close proximity or the nearest guest campsite less than 100ft away. Or walking trails that aren’t a risk to trespass onto private property - this site likely isn’t for you. Dogs sensitive to strange noises (chickens, goats, or locals fishing on the lake) is also worth noting.

My experience at Dante’s lake was awesome. I booked super last minute (day before) due to being unaware of how many people were interested in camping over the MLK weekend. Dante responded in less than an hour of me booking. He texted me the direction and a meet up spot where he would help us navigate directly to the camp site. I texted him what we’d be driving in. We met him on camping day and he was super nice and helpful. He offered fire wood, told us about his lake, the canoe, his dog, goats, neighbors, and let us know he lived right by the lake. So if we needed anything we could come to him and just ask.
We unloaded. Tied our dog up on a stump. Went out on the lake in the canoe. Cooked burgers. Started the fire right before dark and passed out asleep around 8pm.
Going to bed listening to crickets, chickens, and owls was so surreal. My daughter slept all night.
The next working was awesome! Waking up to the lake, rooster, and birds chirping reminded me of a Folgers coffee commercial.
Definitely coming back some timethis year.

Dante was extremely helpful and communicative before we even arrived. He met us on time on the main road to guide us to the site. He gave us a quick tour and different options such as fishing or canoeing on the lake. He also brought us a fire pit to use during our visit. The neighboring site was a little closer than we expected, but was still a great place to camp. Would definitely stay there again.
