Nipisum or 'health water' was later bottled by the California Medicinal Springs Co. after the land was homesteaded in 1886. This historic retreat rests at the foot of lower Chanchelulla 'black rock' Mountain. Bordering a Wilderness Area this land is pristine and wild inhabited by many animals and incredible bio-diversity such as Pileated Woodpeckers, Golden Eagle, Bald Eagle, Blackhawk, Goshawk, Great Horned Owl, Flying Squirrel, Pacific King Snake, Salamanders and Protected Spawning Rainbow Trout. 100+ acres with private hiking trails along the stream for easy trekking, and summit trails (climbing up to almost 6,000 ft.) to the peak. The patriarch of the family, whose family had moved here from Sweden, had a great love of the forest and trains. The property was one of the first certified tree farms in California with the goal of nurturing a healthy forest. In the 1960’s, a mile of railroad tracks was laid and the whistle of a small, steam engine train could be heard throughout the community. Local residents and kids were treated to free train rides and special events for many years. There is a natural spring with a small creek that supplies the ponds with fresh water year around. There is also a small canyon on the property with a larger stream called Mud Creek. The land is rich in Indian history and there a artifacts and other signs on the Indians presence. The Cohasset area is relatively unknown. 15 miles from our property is Deer Creek and the Lasson National Forest is about a 2 hour drive north. While staying with us you can pitch your tent on our private 500 acres. We have 2 primitive camping spots on our property. Each spot has a picnic table and fire pit. There is a flush toilet shared for both camp sites. * During freezing weather the toilets may be closed so they don’t freeze! Please check before booking *The spots are spread out to ensure privacy. Our property is surrounded by the forest and is loaded with deer, squirrels, turkeys and other forest animals. We have numerous walking trails, a fresh water pond for fishing and swimming. Please notify us if you have an RV. Site 1 is best for RV's. Site 2 can accommodate smaller RV's.

Ron and Kristin’s ranch was beautiful. The campsite was great and very well set up. The pond was a really good addition with fun boats and kayaks next to it. Ron even suggested a hike down to another creek which was great.

Weekend Trip to Maple Creek Ranch

My family and I had the best time camping at Maple Creek Ranch. We stayed at Site 2, which was privately nestled among the trees—clean, flat, and perfectly peaceful. The site included a deep firepit and a sturdy picnic table, making it easy to relax and cook meals together. The amenities were fantastic. There was a spotless outhouse just about a hundred feet away (with a flushing toilet!), and a hot shower next to the pond. The pond itself was stocked with bluegill and bass, and my family caught their first-ever fish there—an unforgettable memory! But the highlight of our stay was Ron, the host. He’s an absolute gem—so kind, genuine, and full of great stories. He brought us firewood and water and when my car battery died on our last day, he didn’t hesitate to drive over with his truck and give me a jump. His hospitality truly made our trip special. We’ll absolutely be coming back and can’t recommend Maple Creek Ranch enough to anyone visiting the Cohasset/Chico area!

1 night at Alpen Vineyard Hideaway

Such a great private retreat with our 3 pups! It has everything needed for a glamping getaway and more! Very clean all around. All amenities were there and taken care of well. Peaceful and absolutely beautiful! Nice swimming hole that we wished we could have jumped in but the weather was a bit chilly! We also stopped by the winery and met Leith who gave us a great rundown of the history which was a pleasant little bonus! We will come back next summer for a few more day with friends to enjoy!

Maple Creek was awesome! Very peaceful and Ron was super helpful and friendly. Despite the fact that there was an event taking place on the property the same weekend, I felt like I had the whole place to myself. The flush toilet is also a gem! I will definitely be staying at Maple Creek again.

Lucas received us when we arrived at the camp site. He showed us around, had water for washing dishes and potable water ready. Camping among the apple trees under a starry night was beautiful. If you are riding a motorcycle, be aware that the road within the property is packed gravel.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Trinity Wilderness Outpost on Labor Day weekend and had a great time. The campsites were spacious and beautiful. The hosts were super helpful and friendly. It was nice having flushing toilets, a small sink area to do dishes, and potable water. We did this trip by ourselves, but would totally come back with a bigger group after seeing the size of the campsites. The drive wasn't bad at all, and totally worth it. We love the early check in and check out, which made us feel relaxed about our timing and not on a rigid schedule.

Alpen Vineyard Hideaway is wonderful! So thoughtfully created and operated. Coming to this glamping hideaway after a few nights of tent camping (which was lovely as well) was the perfect and comfortable way to end our multi-day camping trip! The Groves family have thought of nearly everything! The only recommended additions I would suggest guests bring are a tablecloth for the picnic table and a shade umbrella for the beach at the LOVELY swimming hole! Keith, the winemaker/owner, and his family clearly love what they do, and enjoy sharing the rich history of their special valley and vineyard with others! Thank you to the Groves family and all who help make the winery and lodgings so wonderful!

Weekend Trip to Maple Creek Ranch

Maple Creek Ranch is so magical. The pond and surrounding area have everything you could want for a relaxing family vacay -- the outdoor kitchen and flush toilet and hot shower, the sandy little beach and every kind of boat to paddle around in, and the lovely forest shade and breezes keeping it comfortable at the ranch even when the weather is absolutely broiling just down the hill in Chico. The surrounding areas burned in a fire recently, but nature is already rebounding, and we enjoyed hiking through the burned areas to see the baby trees starting to re-green the landscape.

Definitely a hidden gem! Quite a long drive on the dirt road to get to the location. Checked in at the Deerlick Springs Store and then was escorted further into the campground to reach our reserved spot. We had first pick of about 6-7 spots because we arrived before anyone else. We chose the very end spot next to the swimming hole, which our dogs loved. End of Aug, the water was low, but we still enjoyed every moment. Potable water and restrooms were very close, and the campground was very quiet despite the holiday weekend because the spots were so spread out. We want to return in June next year when the creek is higher. It was a beautiful place and the hosts were amazing!

The Alpen Cellars campsite was so wonderfully quiet and peaceful with a view of the vineyard and mountains. It was equipped with all the essentials needed for cooking, the bed was really comfortable and the bathroom and shower facility clean, spacious and well equipped with soap, shampoo and also an assortment of sunscreen and bug spray in case you forgot your own. We spent 4 nights, and we are already looking forward to coming next year.

It was an amazing experience in touch with nature mineral springs. The creek beds surrounding you are so peaceful to wake up to and the stars absolutely beautiful…. It seemed sketchy at first because it’s truly up in the forest and the drive is long but totally worth it: take note make sure you have everything you need and want there are no stores or gas stations near. We didn’t see anything but dear….no animals at night to worry about. It’s definitely a place you want to stay a week or so at just to take it all in….. We definitely are going back! New favorite spot thanks Carrie you are awesome!!!!!

3 nights at Maple Creek Ranch

I loved camping here! I've done a lot of camping this summer and this was one of my favorites. We met the owner, Ron, and he is very cool and helpful. Told us about the property, where to go on a hike, brought us a firewood. Very honored to be able to stay here. We stayed at campsite #2 and it was huge, plenty of space and far away from campsite #1 and the AirB&B. Felt very private and secluded, which is a big deal. I don't always want to camp where it's super crowded and campsites are on top of each other. There is a walk to the swimming area from the campsite, but it was so nice. The water felt great in the heat. We saw deer, dragonflies, hummingbirds, butterflies. Bathrooms were the nicest bathrooms ever! So clean, flushable. Outside shower is also very nice. We want to come here every summer!
