Learn more about this land:A vast expanse of oak trees, California Junipers and rugged, mountainous land running with jackrabbits, quail, and owls that is just 3 miles from Vazquez Rocks and the PCT, our ranch transports you. From the tent campsite, you look out for 20 miles and see nothing but nature across small mountains and canyons all the way to the peaks of Angeles National Forest in the distance. The campsite is a large flat area. For a trailer or RV it's a great place to park and the view is towards wide open spaces. With a tent or if you want more pure nature, you can drive out onto the property further towards the small ruin of the old homesteader's cabin or beyond. The property has a long-abandoned gold mine and circular arrastres where miners used mules to break up rocks. Nearby Acton has pick-your-own apples/pears/peaches at Bloom farms. We are at 3000 feet with strong sun during the day and cool mountains air at night. The camping is set away from structures, but if you want to stroll, closer to the ranch buildings, we have friendly small goats you can visit if interested and horses and a donkey to say hello to across the corral fence.

This was originally a Girl Scout camp called Singing Pines back in the 30’s. You’ll see as you roam around some of the original buildings and structures. It hasn’t been in operation as a Girl Scout camp for over 30 years. The neighbor camp bought the lease but haven’t had the funds to revive it yet. DIRECTIONS: Take Exit for Angeles Crest Hwy (Hwy 2) from the 210 Go North, up the mountain for 29 miles Turn left on Sulpher Springs Rd Go about a mile and you will see a Singing Pines sign up on a hill on the right side. There is a white gate which is usually open but if it's closed go ahead and open it. Go down that driveway about a mile and turn left at the fork. Follow that road down and around the lake staying to the right. Once you passed the lake there will be a little uphill and the location is on the left. Learn more about this land: The Skoolie is a converted short bus with two love seats that convert to an RV queen bed, sink, stove top, dinette, and over head lights. Outside is a private meadow with a short walk to a small lake. You can bring your fishing gear. It's stocked with Bass and Bluegill. Outside the Skoolie is a picnic table, fire pit (firewood $10 a bundle) and a hammock. Up the hill, a very short walk is the private campground toilet facility. This is not shared with anyone else. No cell phone reception no linens bring a sleeping bag or warm blankets. You can charge your phone in the Skoolie for a sunrise alarm or just to take pictures.

This trip was incredible! The area was very private, and there were lots of great amenities. Brian left us a large trash can with a bag, and a cooler stocked with ice. We'll definitely be coming back.

Casa zen was a relaxing, calm stay. Great place to get away from all the city noise. It’s located on a small town in piñon hills of a dirt road. At arrival Rick greeted me and gave me a quick tour of the place. He’s a very friendly host. Place has just enough for a city person to feel comfortable but also just enough to make it feel like a campgrounds get away. Place has a shower, picnic benches, a bbq area and a fire pit. The night sky was beautiful and the noise at night was almost non existent. Got to see a bit of wild life as well. I would definitely head out to this location again.

Weekend Trip to Skoolie in a secluded meadow

I almost don’t want to write this review because then this amazing gem of a hipcamp will be less likely to be available when I want to return, but it wouldn’t be right to keep such a magical place under wraps given what a great host and special place it all is. My dogs were in heaven walking around the vast property and the skoolie is perfectly set up for relaxing days in the hammock, followed by long talks and good laughs by the fire at night. Highly recommend.

Ric’s property was beautiful, quiet and clean. The camping area, the bathroom and the hand-built outdoor shower were so nice. We were only able to stay for a little while, but it was just the spot that we needed. Close to lots of beautiful mountain and desert areas to explore, and some quaint cafes. Grateful for Ric’s hospitality. We will definitely stay again.

My wife and I loved staying in the Skoolie in the Forest! It was our dogs’ first time camping on private grounds and they absolutely loved having the freedom to explore the huge property safely. The skoolie was comfortable and gave a more elevated, yet still organic camping experience. Brian was also nice enough to include a cooler with ice and drinking water for us. We will definitely be back again to make more memories!

This is a beautifully remote property where you can take a break from civilization! We had fun hiking around and enjoying the scenery. No toilets so be prepared to pee in bush and pack out your waste.

Weekend Trip to Skoolie in a secluded meadow

We had a ton of fun here. It was very isolated, with privacy you can never get at campground. The only people we bumped into were trying to fix up one of the old girl scout structures, and they were very nice. We saw evidence of construction but never heard it while we were there. We loved exploring the abandoned buildings as much as the nature. The skooloe was very comfy, and the amenities provided were super helpful and in good condition. Just FYI in fall when we went, the lake was quite receded. If water activities are a priority for you, maybe check it out after the area has had a few good rains. I noticed they haven't opened hipcamp reservations for spring/summer 2025 yet, but my family hopes they do! We'd love to make this a regular spot.
