There is a riding academy and boarding facility adjacent to our property, and a long pleasant trail allows horseback riders, hikers and cyclists to travel along the Verde Greenway into Old Town Cottonwood, a pleasant 30 minute walk through lush riparian area. Hawks Hideaway is a family owned property, occupied by a 3rd and 4th generation, mother-son team. Two generations have lived and died here before us and we are proud to be the custodians of this majestic property, full of old growth, gigantic cottonwood trees. A birdwatcher, or naturalists dream. Hawks Hideaway is a natural and secluded spot located directly adjacent to the state-maintained Verde River Greenway. This means you may encounter wildlife and pests associated with being in such close connection to nature. Hawks Hideaway is next to many miles of wilderness. There will also be snow in the wintertime - so plan accordingly for mud, ice, and rough roads. But most of the year is easy as long as it's dry!

This campsite is 3.7 miles from Grand Canyon Junction for food, gas, water, and supplies, and 30 miles to Grand Canyon National Park. There are two sites with fire pits and campfires are allowed but may be restricted during certain times when warm temperatures and high winds are forecasted. Please bring a shovel to clear the fire pit out if there is sand or leftover wood in it. Other things to note: From Highway 64, travel 0.85 miles east on Pine Rd to reach the property. The dirt road has some bumps but is accessible with a 2WD car when the road is dry but 4WD is recommended when there is snow or rain. Also, since you will be traveling on an unmarked dirt road, it is advised to reach the campsite before dark so it easier to locate. There are no toilets or water so campers will need to bring their own accommodations. Pack in and pack out policy applies. There was something special about the GCO. Basics first: Adam was super friendly and a great host; the property is quiet and clean. There is some road noise, but I ran a fan for white noise and used ear plugs and got great sleep. The extras: the lodge is a great, eclectically decorated spot with sofas, a TV, pool table, among other cool items (nice space to have, especially when you're traveling in a van). The views from Desert View are unobstructed and amazing. Don't miss the show when the sun sets! It literally changes minute to minute. The night skies are amazing as well. I can see why this is hollowed ground in the Native American culture. Don't hesitate to stay here; I'll be back for sure when I'm back in that region.

This spot was ideal for a one-night stop on my way to Sedona. All of the animals are very calm and friendly with people, especially the horses. The view of the mountains and stars is really beautiful. Holly and her family are very kind and welcoming, and also allow visitors their own space. I stayed at Sunset camp which is a patch near the gate, good for self-contained car/tent camping. Heard the roosters in the morning! Rustic and cool spot.

We were very comfortable at site 7. There is tons of space set up tents. We were able to fit 4 tents and 1 large EZ up style canopy with plenty of room to spare. The ground is also not super hard and Rocky, it is relatively easy to hammer in and remove tent stakes. There is signage to direct you to your proper campsite. My friend who came in a Kia Spectra was able to get onto the property with no problems. The porta-johns were clean. Fellow campers were quiet and courteous. It was honestly almost like we didn't even have neighbors, which was nice. The camp host's dog Buddy did absolutely make a special appearance in the morning. The dog was super friendly and loving. Overall this was quite a pleasant experience and I would be happy to camp with this host again.
