Camping near Pinon

In the rugged sand-swept desert landscape of northeastern Arizona, the Pinon area opens up Navajo Nation to campers. Immerse in the cultural heritage of the region while exploring vast badlands and some of the best sunrise views in the country. To the east, Canyon de Chelly National Monument beckons with towering sandstone cliffs and ancient canyons. Campers can pitch a tent or park their RV at campsites with picnic tables, barbecue grills, and restrooms. For a more rustic escape into the badlands and wild desert, backcountry camping is available on select public lands within the Navajo Nation. For lakeside or forested camping, head two hours south to the vast and varied Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest. Dozens of fishing areas, like Willow Springs Lake, provide chances to reel in Arctic grayling and rainbow trout. Keep a lookout for bighorn sheep, antelope, plus songbirds, mountain lions, and Mexican gray wolves. Developed campgrounds here offer electrical hookups, dump stations, and potable water, while rustic tent sites may have vault toilets and fire rings.
