Welcome to CAMP 222, a private campground nestled on approximately 1 acre of land adjacent to Lewis Smith Lake in Cullman, AL. Conveniently situated just off Cullman County Road 222, our campsite is within a quarter mile of two gas stations, two independently owned stores offering short-order food options, and a Dollar General. While there may be some road noise from County Road 222, especially during daytime hours, it typically tapers off in the evening and nighttime. Enjoy stunning views of the 4th of July fireworks from Smith Lake Park, as our property provides a prime vantage point. Lewis Smith Lake, managed by Alabama Power, spans 21,000 acres and is the deepest lake in Alabama at 264 ft. The water level varies throughout the year, usually reaching full-pool from April to July before gradually decreasing for the autumn and winter seasons. Please note the rocky shore near the sun deck, which is why jumping or diving from the sun deck is prohibited. The nearby City of Cullman, located approximately 10 miles away, offers abundant shopping, dining, and entertainment options. Additionally, the city hosts numerous festivals throughout the year, including the Rock The South Music Festival.

Beautiful place, everything is exactly as described. The road is a little noisy but I didn’t mind. Where else do you get a camper spot on the water, with private boat launch, dock, fire pit etc. For the information of future campers, there is a free rv dump station at the Interstate rest area 7 miles away. We stopped on the way out to flush the tanks.

I loved camping on the Bate's Farm. Wayne was a great host. The facility had a great balance of rustic nature and modern amenities. The land was peaceful and natural. Each site was private and included a fire pit, picnic table, and trash bin. Free showers, laundry, and a playground were also available.

The gentleman that met us was very nice and explained how to use everything. We loved the fact that everything was so clean and we wanted for nothing including wood for the campfire. The shower was really neat and hot water was really appreciated. Only drawback was the dogs across the lake barked non stop from 5-9 PM. No fault of owner of campground so don't hold that against them. Just be aware that you will have to deal with that. The only other small problem for me was getting up the little rise out of the port-a-potty/shower area. If you are not a senior, it will not be a problem for you. I would just have appreciated a couple of rock steps or something there. All in all, we loved our time there and if ever back in this area would definitely try to book it again.

The ride to our camp site was amazingly beautiful down a trail. Once we got to our campsite it was beautiful open grassy area woodsy trails open nature pluse stargazing. Each campsite sets far back from each other for more privacy. This is true nature camping experience we loved it. Our host was very helpful and we will certainly come back. It's going to be gorgeous when the leaves start changing.

Great country location. Easy set-up. Hosts have thought of nearly everything to make your stay a little more enjoyable. The bathhouse was clean and comfortable, the site included a nice picnic area and fire pit, and there were even 'surprise' amenities like a free laundry area. Loved walking our dog around the grounds. Very beautifully laid out. It's obvious they've put a lot of thought into this space.

I loved camping here at Bates Farm! It was a very peaceful and spacious primitive site where you can really feel more immersed in nature. Mary and her husband were very hospitable and made sure to alert us whenever archers were on the range. I will definitely love to come back to participate in the 3D archery here in the future. Highly recommended, it was a cool experience.

It’s amazing to have such great primitive camping spots so close to town! The hosts are friendly, quick to respond, and genuinely care about making your stay enjoyable. Highly recommend for anyone wanting a quick escape and a chance to reconnect with nature.

Weekend Trip to Bates Farm

It was an excellent experience from the reservation to check out time. The hosts take time to talk to you and periodically check in to see if you need anything. The property has an excellent choice of different tent camping spots. The bathrooms showers and laundry areas are clean. Me and 3 other friends were on a motorcycle trip and all of us say we would definitely stay at Bates Farm again if in the area!

Spent our wedding anniversary here. Was so much better than crowded RV camps. Very clean and well taken care of. Out door shower was a plus. Very nice host. Will definitely be a regular visitor.

Great location, aside from being next to the road, which I didn't find to be much of a problem. Shower was great. Toilets, hammocks, lake front! Cappys boat rental is next door, and we rented a pontoon to take out on the gorgeous lake.

We had a great time with our three girls on Rachael’s land. The dock was fun to fish off of. There were tons of geese and cranes on the lake which my girls loved to watch. I wish the road next to the site wasn’t quite so busy but that’s not anyone’s fault. If you’re bringing dogs be aware the gate does not fully enclose the property so if you have a runner like we do just a heads up. Overall the property was clean, peaceful and a fun stay for our family and two dogs.
