The cabin sits in the middle of a ten-acre property adjacent to the Talladega National Forest. It is located eight miles north of the small town of Heflin, Alabama, which is about an hour and a half from the metro areas of Birmingham, Alabama, and Atlanta, Georgia.
Off a small county road, a private half-mile gravel road leads to the property’s end. The cabin is surrounded by hundreds of square miles of forest. To the west, directly behind the cabin, there are over nine miles of continuous forest before reaching a hard-top road, and beyond that, over six miles to the next road. To the north, there are over sixty miles of continuous forest to the next road. Pinhoti Trailheads are nearby.
The ten acres is mostly forested, and all surrounding properties are similarly wooded. The back side of the property is bordered by a year-round creek. There are two open meadows, one of which is a pawpaw orchard.
Trails and a covered pavilion are located down by the creek. In season, you can enjoy blueberries, blackberries, and muscadines. Because the property is so remote—and because the surrounding areas adhere to International Dark Sky standards—you can enjoy spectacular stargazing on clear nights.

It is 20.54 acres peacefully located between big land owners on each side, and a creek that runs through the middle that separates north from south pieces. Our trails are groomed and some just deer worn. We have one camp site that is rural and rustic. There is a bucket for the restroom and antique, old white kitchen sink for hand washing just outside it. There is no running water yet, but working on getting a water reservoir out there asap. No electricity yet a single power cord could be run for extra $10.00 for your visit. There is a fire pit close to the tent spot on, “Skip’s Campsite”.
Another camp site” Aqua-Fine-A” that has a walk in creek access, and you have to cross the creek to get to that one. It is farther away from “Skip’s bathroom access. It has a more established flag stone fire pit. It is our original primitive sight. There is no water reservoir or possibility of electricity at “Aqua-Fine-A” campsite. Everything must be packed in and out on foot.
Both sights require a hike to campsites on foot with uneven rooted trails. {You are welcome to use our well loved red wheelbarrow to haul items in}.
There is access to a bigger fire pit “M & M fire pit”, and a propane grill option (this is first come first serve/sharing spot).
More campsites developing over time and there is a massage practitioner on site if you are looking for the whole experience (29 years experience in healing modalities and shamanic blood line).
If you are looking to experience nature cabin style then, “The Minor Escape” is for you. This has a full refrigerator, full stand up filtered water shower, kitchen sink, separate master, two bedroom lofts with ladder access, kitchen sink, ceiling fans, window a/c units for summer and space heaters for winter (Eden pure heater that shows fireplace flames).
Our family loves this land and there is always new areas being cultivated in various spots. You will see us out there either with our hobby farm of animals, gardening or building a new area. I am a teacher, guide, artist, and healer. This land is sacred and magical. It is used to heal, restore, inspire and rejuvenate many locally and internationally.

It is 20.54 acres peacefully located between big land owners on each side, and a creek that runs through the middle that separates north from south pieces. Our trails are groomed and some just deer worn. We have one camp site that is rural and rustic. There is a bucket for the restroom and antique, old white kitchen sink for hand washing just outside it. There is no running water yet, but working on getting a water reservoir out there asap. No electricity yet a single power cord could be run for extra $10.00 for your visit. There is a fire pit close to the tent spot on, “Skip’s Campsite”.
Another camp site” Aqua-Fine-A” that has a walk in creek access, and you have to cross the creek to get to that one. It is farther away from “Skip’s bathroom access. It has a more established flag stone fire pit. It is our original primitive sight. There is no water reservoir or possibility of electricity at “Aqua-Fine-A” campsite. Everything must be packed in and out on foot.
Both sights require a hike to campsites on foot with uneven rooted trails. {You are welcome to use our well loved red wheelbarrow to haul items in}.
There is access to a bigger fire pit “M & M fire pit”, and a propane grill option (this is first come first serve/sharing spot).
More campsites developing over time and there is a massage practitioner on site if you are looking for the whole experience (29 years experience in healing modalities and shamanic blood line).
If you are looking to experience nature cabin style then, “The Minor Escape” is for you. This has a full refrigerator, full stand up filtered water shower, kitchen sink, separate master, two bedroom lofts with ladder access, kitchen sink, ceiling fans, window a/c units for summer and space heaters for winter (Eden pure heater that shows fireplace flames).
Our family loves this land and there is always new areas being cultivated in various spots. You will see us out there either with our hobby farm of animals, gardening or building a new area. I am a teacher, guide, artist, and healer. This land is sacred and magical. It is used to heal, restore, inspire and rejuvenate many locally and internationally.

The Refuge is a luxurious cabin with 3 bedrooms (each with a queen sized bed), 2 full bathrooms, and an extra large living room with beautiful bay windows and cozy fireplace. There are also 2 porches to relax on, a grill, and fire pit, a good sized yard, and it sits just off of Little River Canyon. Other amenities include a full kitchen, washer and dryer, satellite tv, and high speed internet/wifi. Located within walking distance to great Rock Climbing Routes!
Air-conditioned accommodations at this vacation home offer fireplaces and washers/dryers. Rooms open to patios. Kitchens offer refrigerators, stovetops, microwaves, and cookware/dishes/utensils.

I have stayed at Parksland before. This was my first time staying in the cabin. Everyone is very friendly and welcoming. The cabin was cozy, although we spent most of our time at the camp center listening to music and enjoying the sauna. The trail from the parking spot to the cabin is relatively short, so it doesn't take you long to get your stuff there. Everyone, from the host to the other guests, was very friendly. We packed our own battery-operated fans, which is something I'd recommend during the warmer months. The cabin to the swimming hole has very direct access as well. You'll enjoy any of the sites on the land, but if you need something enclosed, the cabin works for that. Very welcoming location all around. Anyone who doesn't emphasize love and respect likely wouldn't be allowed back by the host.

Hmm. What can you say really to describe the wonderfulness of Parksland?
From low tech to high tech, cool clear waters, hot to cold sauna shower, and good company, what more do you need? Prepare for as primitive or as glamorous as you care to.
Dusty is a real Man's Man, gracious host, great conversationalist and free with his knowledge, plays no games.
Be with people if you want or see no people the whole stay. Your camp spot and the grounds layout allow just that.
If you like to hike this is your spot. Hike the Ridgeline trail with it's stunning views and vegetation crossing the creek twice. There is a "bowl" at the main swimming hole that is a fantastic massage. Let me know when you find the "strike" stretch.
A+, 10/10, I'll go again. In closing, I had a "just what the doctor ordered" experience. For those who know, you know. For those ho don't come find out.

I stayed in the Minor Cabin, and I really can't say enough good things about it! It's located in a beautiful area, with lots of woods to explore! The cabin is furnished with everything you could want, there is even a cute kitchen when you can prepare a meal. The cabin is very spacious, extremely clean, and oh so comfortable!! The cats on property are so cute, and some even come to say hello! The bed is very comfortable, the tub is amazing, they have a nice selection of DVDs, the porch areas are so lovely! You look right into the forest from the porch! This place is so extremely peaceful! I can't wait to come back!

Weekend Trip to Parksland Retreat
Our hosts, Dustin and Emily are awesome! Dustin greeted us with a smile, upon arrival! Gave us a tour and explained the cool showers, sauna and composting toilet. We stayed in the Sunrise Cabin, C1. It was clean and really nice! I cooked dinner in the cast iron and built a nice fire. We thoroughly enjoyed playing in the crystal clear stream down the hill, in the buff! What a fantastic feeling of freedom and peace! Beautiful, lush, green forest full of birds! We had a great time! Made lifelong memories and departed with grins on our faces, rejuvenated and looking forward to our next visit!
