Be prepared for all seasons!!! Camp fire usage depends on current weather conditions at the time of visits in addition to any state/county restrictions that may be in place (host approval required)!!! IF there are no restrictions and fires are allowed, we have firewood bundles and/or starter packs for purchase at $10/bundle/pack. We also have two propane fire pits available for rent (see "extras"), or you are welcome to bring your own. If you have purchased wood and there are restrictions/bans, we will gladly apply your wood purchase the rental of a propane pit. Propane fire pit usage may also be restricted by current conditions or state/county restrictions! Fresh eggs are available for purchase (when the girls are cooperating) by the dozen, or half dozen (see "extras"). You are welcome to go "visit" the chickens. Their coop is next to the large blue shop/barn. *UPON ARRIVAL at the property, please WAIT INSIDE our main gate (unless otherwise directed via prior communication with host). The host(s) will meet you there shortly after passing through the gate and direct you to your site. ----------------------- Camp Penguin at Wandering Penguin Ranch (facebook.com/CampPenguin) in southern Colorado is about a 3 hour drive from the Denver metro area, two hours from Colorado Springs and just under an hour north west of Canon City. We provide a variety of site options to choose from including tent sites, car/van/truck sites, and rustic trailer site options - all with NO amenities (NO electric/septic/water, etc). Additional vehicle parking on the property can be accommodated for groups with more than one vehicle. Please provide type of camper/tent and number of vehicles at booking so hosts can help direct you to the best site option available. Guests can relax around our small pond or roam freely around our 35-acre property. There is both hiking and fishing at Badger Creek only a short drive away. Waugh Mountain State Trust Land is another hiking option and is also just a short drive up the road (*NOTE: the State of Colorado now requires a valid hunting/fishing license to access state trust lands)! Additionally, we are about 45-90 minutes away from a variety of alternative adventures! Some of these include Salida, Cripple Creek, Eleven Mile Reservoir, Paradise Cove Swimming Hole, Florissant Fossil Beds, Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center, Manitou Incline, Manitou Cliff Dwellings, Cave of the Winds, Seven Falls, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, Royal Gorge Bridge and Park, Royal Gorge Dinosaur Experience, several rafting/zipline and Jeep tour companies, Westcliffe, Bishop Castle and Canon City including Skyline Drive, Tunnel Drive, Royal Gorge Train, Museum of Colorado Prisons and The Winery at Holy Cross Abbey. Any of these can be done as a day trip or visited while on your way here, or home. (*NOTE: some of these attractions are free, some require a fee and some are seasonal. To avoid disappointment, PLEASE do your own research prior to arrival)! Guests need to be self-sustaining to camp here as there are no facilities nearby (gas stations, grocery stores, restaurants, etc.)! But, if you are looking for a peaceful, quiet getaway to commune with nature, a chance to see wildlife and simply relax.... We're your place - book your visit now!!!

Aspen Grove (Site 3) is one of two sites next to our little Wandering Penguin Pond. It sits next to a grove of aspen trees of various sizes which provides some morning shade to the site. Beautiful place to enjoy the reflecting skies on the little pond.

Babbling Brook (Site 2) is one of two sites next to our little Wandering Penguin Pond. It sits next to a small "crick" (not even big enough to be called a creek). Site is wide open, with no shade. Works great for trailers with an awning, or if you're tent camping, host can provide a small shade canopy. Beautiful place to view the morning sunrise, and relax the day away enjoying the views.

Quaking Aspens (Site 4) is a patch of mowed mountain meadow adjacent to a small grove of mature aspen trees - perfect for hanging a hammock to enjoy the views and mountain air. Quaking Aspens site is approximately 100 yards from the Babbling Brook and Aspen Grove sites (Sites 2 and 3). Enough distance to enjoy some privacy from the other sites, or close enough for larger groups utilizing more than one site.

Whispering Pines (Site 5) HIGH PROFILE, 4x4 vehicles ONLY are required to reach this site!!! Therefore, this site is suitable ONLY for tents (NO trailers, RV, camper/vans, etc.). Nestled on the upper portion of our property amongst many pine and aspen trees. Away from other sites - very private area. Plenty of options for hanging a hammock to relax and enjoy the mountain air. Host can supply camping toilet and folding table for duration of your visit. *If you are a tent camper without a four wheel drive vehicle, we are happy to drive you and your belongings up the hill to the site.

Camp Penguine was amazing! We had a lovely time tent camping by the pond and our pups LOVED getting to swim and play. Tim and Lori were so kind and gave us a very warm welcome, even gifting us some (delicious) homemade cookies for us and some treats for the pups as well. The view was amazing and the land was VERY well kept- would absolutely recommend!

We camped at site 4, which was secluded from the other sites. It was very peaceful and quiet. The view was beautiful and Tim and Lori were very gracious and helpful hosts.

We loved camping at Tim and Lori's and would definitely come back again. We camped at the Quaking Aspens and couldn't have asked for a better camp spot or view. The site was clean and tidy, easy to access and we loved being able to walk up to the pond with our dog so she could swim. We also enjoyed the fresh eggs and Lori's fresh baked cookies immensely! They were so nice, communicative and they went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Can't wait to go back!

Both Tim & Lori were great hosts. They met us at their gate and even gave us cookies and dog treats for our pet. The area was nice and they offered us a different spot that was better due to the rain. Very lovely area, I would recommend anyone to come check it out.

(Site 2) Babbling Brook by Pond
What a fantastic experience! Our group (2 adults, 3 kids- 11,9,4 year olds- loved our stay. We were at site 2 and originally kinda nervous about lack of shade with tent camping, but it was totally fine with just a pop up tent canopy and tarp side. The pond is the perfect size for kid romping/‘freedom’ and yet visible to the adults all the way around. The creek was the soundtrack to sleep and there’s a wolf rescue apparently that we even heard howls from one dawn. We went to Florissant fossil bed natl monument one day and it was perfect excursion to enjoy a get away yet also a good amount of time at the camp. Tim and Lori went out of their way to guide us to the site, welcome us with kid friendly treats and ensure we had what we needed. The toilet was what I call a cassette toilet like in a ‘dry cabin’ and was super nice for camping…zero smell! I highly recommend this option!

We LOVED our one night stay at Camp Penguine! Our son asked to stay another night lol from the get go Tim & Lori had been the nicest hosts: detailed instructions on how to get to the property, welcomed us with cookies and welcome pack for our son, made sure we had everything we needed - everything was absolutely amazing. My husband and son loved the pond - my son caught a crawdad using a piece of weed he picked next to the pond! We also loved how peaceful and private the campsite was - there wasn’t any fire ban so we made full use of the fire pit supplied at the site and enjoyed the beautiful night sky as a family. I don’t think I’d seen so many stars out before! We look forward to coming back to Camp Penguine!

(Site 3) Aspen Grove by Pond
Tim and Lori were great hosts. Upon our arrival they greeted us with a wonderful welcoming gifts for our fur babies and for us. We stayed at site 3 next to the spring feed pond. The site has a amazing views of Pikes Peak. Grounds are well maintained, easy access to the toilet and trash bins. We we're a party of 4 adults and 4 fur babies, with a off road camper trailer pulled by a V8 truck, and a tent with a midsize car and we had ample space. Our friends loved that they slept next to the Aspen trees which provided nice shade for them. Site has a picnic table, a fire pit so it was nice to purchase bundle of wood and fresh farm eggs from the hosts. We had wonderful time during our stay, we felt safe even with the coyote howling at night. We highly recommend Tim and Lori's place.

This spot was gorgeous and perfect for a weekend getaway! Tim and Lori were very sweet and accommodating, the views were beautiful, and we really enjoyed the peace and quiet. I would love to stay here again at a different site on the property!

It was such a beautiful location. The family across the pond were very friendly. The only thing was that the sound carries so you can hear the other group pretty clearly that is across the pond, but it wasn’t the end of the world for us. The hosts were amazing and we got cookies and fish food on arrival! Would definitely stay here again!

Beautiful views, incredible hosts! I forgot my toothbrush and Tim and Lori brought me an extra they had in their house. They had treats for the kids which were also extra special! We had a beautiful time and are definitely going to return.

My family and I loved camping on Tim and Lori’s property! The views were so beautiful and the hosts were really great communicators and made our camping experience really smooth. The location was very well maintained and clean. It was so peaceful and the perfect place for my kids’ first camping trip (3 and 7). My dog loved swimming in the pond and sunset and sunrise were beautiful. We even made some new friends who were at the campsite next to us! Great experience and we will be back!

Tim and Lori meet us in arrival and escorted us up the mountain to our site. Once there, they explained everything and gifted us with fish food and homemade cookies. We only spent one night, but enjoyed the solitude and peace their site provided. Very clean exactly what we were looking for. We plan on going back and staying longer next time. I would definitely recommend their location 👍🏻

We had a lovely weekend at Penguin camp. Our hosts Tim and Lori were very kind and welcoming. We also saw the most beautiful rainbow I have ever seen in my life! We didn’t have any neighbors during our stay so it was very quiet and peaceful.

Quaking aspens In the meadow was a perfect location for us and the dogs. Beautiful views and the most quiet and serene place we’ve stayed yet. Definitely saving this place for our next trip. Our group (2 families of 4) loved camping at Camp Penguin, sites 2 and 3! This was a perfect set of spots to let the kids and dogs run free, swim and fish while enjoying a beautiful view. Lori and Tim were super accommodating with directions on where best to set up, treats for the kids and adults and some impromptu fishing help too! We are already thinking about when we can come back and enjoy the seclusion and star viewing.

We were welcomed with homemade cookies and such clear instructions in person about where the flattest part of the campsite would be to set up our tent. The hosts are so sweet and were thorough in giving the rundown about the space. Views were also amazing and the stars were awesome at night. It was quite peaceful when we were there. I would recommend this site to anyone!

Staying and Lori and Tim’s land was amazing! We stayed at the Aspen Grove adjacent to the pond and it has great views. The spot was quiet and well maintained with a clean outhouse. Both Tim and Lori were very accommodating, giving us a nice welcome gift and run down of the spot; Tim even brought us some extra water right before a big storm hit. Don’t pass this place up!

Tim & Lori’s place is beautiful. They are warm and welcoming hosts. They had an activity bag for our daughter which she loved! This is a great place for families, new and experienced campers. We will be back.

Tim and Lori’s spot is so lovely and they were so welcoming. They met us on their driveway and led us to our site and presented us with gifts for the kid’s (ages 6&8) and a yummy snack. It was their first camping trip. They have such a lovely property and the camping spot is so serene by the pond, we enjoyed fishing for the stocked trout (catch and release) even though we didnt catch any. We saw prarie dogs and deer, tons of birds which live around the pond… there are bears in the area but we didnt see any … but we had our bear spray handy in case. Tim showed us the baby chicks they had with their chickens. I was worried if there was a fire ban the kids wouldnt be able to cook/make smores over a campfire and they were kind enough to hold a propane fire pit for rent for us in case their was a fire ban, which put my mind at ease. We spent an enjoyable couple of nights sleeping peacefully by the pond. Highly recommend!

We had a great time here! Tim met us, showed us the property and even had some treats for us and our pup, which was very nice! The property is very beautiful and quiet, we loved waking up to birds singing and the views were absolutely breathtaking! Can’t wait to come back here!
