Feel like you’ve had your share of lakeside camping? Come on down to Poplar River. This campground is snuggled up to the edge of the river, and some of the sites have direct water access. That means you can roll out of your tent in the AM, and get in some trout fishing right then and there. Not too shabby, ‘eh? If you come during autumn, you’ll be amazed by the vivid fall foliage that blankets the area, thanks to the abundance of quaking aspen trees. And, while these sites aren’t technically for RV use, two of the four spots are over 21 feet in length, and you just might be able to squeeze on in.

Site: ***2024 Update - The hillside campsite is now cleared and available for tent camping. Driveway has been extended (now 115 feet long) , two firepits have been constructed (one at end of driveway & one on hillside campsite) and picnic table on site. We are currently accepting bookings for Spring/Summer/Fall of 2024. A 10 acre secluded forest site nestled between Lake Superior and the Sawtooth Mountains. This is a single site property; enjoy complete privacy during your booking dates. Property is primitive and dense with trees/ground cover. 115 feet of cleared driveway is best spot for RV set up; levers likely needed as driveway is gravel is uneven in spots. Tent camping with firepit on hillside campsite. Second firepit at the end of the driveway. Hiking/Biking Options: There are no marked trails on the property. For guests interested in hiking we recommend: 1) The 310 mile Superior Hiking Trail easily accessible at multiple locations throughout Grand Marais OR 2) The Woods Creek Superior Hiking trailhead approximately 1 mile from property; parking lot at trailhead. Biking not possible on site but nearby gravel roads are an option for advanced riders or bikers looking for a challenging ride. A perfect primitive home base for laid back families and seasoned adventurers. Tired of the outdoors? A 10 minute drive takes you to downtown Grand Marais with restaurants, shops and Artists Point. Welcome to Peaceful Place. We lived in this beautiful cabin full-time through all the seasons while we built our home nearby. We decided to share our love of the land with visitors who appreciate the boreal forest. The cabin sits along Myhr Creek. Our brother-in-law says, “Everywhere you look is a postcard.” Over the years, we’ve watched moose, wolves, bears, foxes, deer, otters, and beavers. We’ve also been visited by the occasional pine marten and have followed the tracks of lynx. As is the case with wild animals, we never know when we’ll experience an encounter and can’t promise you’ll see any during your stay. We hope your time here provides a restful experience in the Northwoods. A few maintained walking trails begin just outside your door. We are located 2 miles from Hwy 61 on County Road 69. The entrance to Judge C.R. Magney State Park and its many hiking trails is about 3 miles away. If you head east instead, Grand Portage State Park—with pristine waterfall views—is about a 20-minute drive. We are located on the eastern end of Cook County, Minnesota, where you’ll have access to numerous hiking trails, as well as opportunities to rent canoes from local outfitters and paddle the area’s many beautiful lakes. Access to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) is not far from the cabin. It’s about an hour along the Arrowhead Trail to Lake McFarland, where you can paddle the lake or hike the Border Route Trail. Lake Superior is also a short drive away, where you can take in the grandeur of the Big Lake. After a full day of adventure, Grand Marais and its shops and restaurants are just 20 minutes away.

Explore the property's minimally maintained trails, relax by the Beaver River, gather around the fire pit, play cornhole, bocce, or board games, or simply slow down and enjoy the quiet. The cabin includes a wood-burning stove (firewood provided), solar power, Starlink internet (no cell service), an indoor toilet, and a fully equipped kitchen with an induction cooktop, microwave, air fryer, toaster, coffee maker, cookware, utensils, and a small solar-powered refrigerator. While there's no running water inside the cabin, the kitchen is supplied with pre-filled water containers from our natural artesian spring, located about 50 yards away. The spring also provides fresh drinking water and an outdoor hot shower. Inside, you'll find an open living area with a comfortable couch, a work desk, reliable Starlink internet for streaming or video calls, and a cozy bedroom with a queen-size bed and extra blankets for chilly northern nights. Outside, enjoy the fire pit, charcoal grill, and woodshed stocked with extra firewood. Beyond the property, the North Shore of Lake Superior offers endless opportunities for hiking, paddling, sightseeing, charming small towns, scenic beaches, and waterfalls. Please note: This is a rustic off-grid cabin designed for those who enjoy unplugging and embracing nature. If you're looking for a luxury getaway with all the conveniences of modern living, this may not be the right fit.
